The Pitt Minion is my strong preference purely for the cross refs. Also my goatskin one is in fantastic condition after 5 years of heavy use. Back pocket, camping etc.

Very well made. I have a nkjv thin line from Nelson. It’s an 1990’s- I got it from Thru the Bible radio program. Sort of a pitt minion ( USF) But Cambridge is by far one of the best and probably will be till the Lord returns.

Thank you for your review of the Cambridge Pitt Minion KJV bible. I can attest to the quality of my Pitt Minion. I purchased a black cover, hand grained Morocco leather, 8 pt India bible in June of 1963. It was printed in London. This bible remains in excellent condition. During the first year of ownership, it traveled with me from the west coast to Guam, to Adak AK, many of the Pacific Islands and as far south as Sydney, Australia.

I bought the snap flap CSB personal size and i LOVE it.. Its only $6 on LifeWay right now and its VERY readable at 7.5 font and quite opaque paper.. I really do not need references in a small carry bible and that's what allows the font to be bigger and that's what gives the CSB the upper hand in my opinion, plus i love the CSB version. And I'm surprised how flexible it is and how flat it lays almost right away considering how small the bible is... you just need to break it in properly from the get go.

Thanks for the review Tim. I have had the CSB “Pitt” for over a year now and it has held up great. I also bought a KJV pocket reference bible from Cambridge which is a Pitt Minion reduced. The paste down line line started to split on the back cover almost immediately. A little googling and it seems that is a common problem with Cambridge bibles. I do have the Blue Calf Split NLT Pitt Minion NIB but I’m afraid to use it. It’s beautiful. I just have a hard time getting into the NLT for some reason.

I wish Tyndale would come out with a compact size in the NLT. They don't have many options for smaller size bibles

They have a small line of compact NLT Filaments coming out really really soon....like next month or so...so stay tuned!!! One of them even has a zipper.

The Pitt is the Bible I keep in my “working out of the office” bag. It’s a great little Bible. I do wish it was a black text edition though.

I seem to remember having an NASB Pitt Minion in black letter text (but I could be wrong). A lot seem to be red letter, though. Not sure why both aren't widely available.

Of the Pitts, I know that the ESV in black imitation leather is black letter & reviews have mentioned it’s a very nice high quality imitation leather. I think it’s around $50 usd on Amazon. (Cad $68) Quite worth the quality I’d say, same paper, same binding.

I've got both the Calfsplit and Goatskin pitt minion as well as the CSB Personal size in Genuine leather. There is a definite gap in the quality of construction, but also the price. The CSB personal size is a very good alternate to the Pitt. Plus there's no Pitt in CSB, which I am starting to like more than the NIV. Great video

POOR MAN Pitt Minion!!! Now I can't not call it that!!! Between you and Everhards "Eagle" . Nice review.

Very nice review, l am outside of the US and I am surprise of the difference in price of those two bibles. Cambridge bible looks pretty but the 'poor' bible is very nice too.

After watching your (and "the other Tim's") Bible reviews, I recently bought myself a black goatskin ESV Pitt Minion as I wanted (or in my mind, needed) a good quality Bible that I can use in the comfort of my home and while out and about. I'm pleased overall, but I'm not too impressed with the paper quality, tbh. Great size for my particular purpose, as it is almost always by my side.

Holman makes that CSB in a premium goatskin version which is really nice, same size but with raised hubs :)

I have it....The CSB Ultrathin with raised hubs is a little bit bigger bible than the Personal Size shown here. But, yeah, it's definitely nice!! Edge lined and not a paste down liner like this one.

That paste down liner on the csb looks a lot better personally. I’ve had my Pitt minion for about a week now and I can already see it coming apart at the crevice of where the spine meets the the leather But what does it for me is the reference system in the middle
@AFrischPerspective
@AFrischPerspective 3 года назад
My Pitt Minion has reinforcement tape to help hold the binding. I'm surprised to hear yours is already coming apart. They do have a limited warranty on their Bibles though.

@@AFrischPerspective you know that may be a cool video for you to do. Idk if you’ve already done that or not but making a video on how to make a Bible last longer is a cool idea

Sorry to hear your Pitt is coming apart that quickly, definitely send a message to Cambridge as it should be covered under the warranty. I’ve had about 7 different Pitt minions in their various leather covers, & my ESV brown calf split leather Pitt has been my daily for about 4 years without any problems in the binding or anywhere, it’s also travelled with me on several trips. I’ve found it to be a very good sturdy bible.

That’s a nice Bible for someone who likes the NIV. The references, translator notes, maps and concordance are great extras. The print size is too small for me. Inconsistent red print is on the down side , I think, for everyone. They need to fix that.

As much as I am a fan of Cambridge bibles (my top choice), it really seems over priced by 30-40 percent. Maybe because of not having low price economy of scale idk.

*Hi Tim, What's the next slightly larger (not too large!) from the Pitt Minion foot print? I love, love, love the size of the Pitt...but honestly, the lettering could be a font size larger and wanted to know what is out there as far as literally the next small bible like the PItt but with a larger font. I truly wish Cambridge would drop the cross references in the middle to make way for a larger font size, thereby keeping the same foot print. (If they could just re-brand it as a simple basic reading bible...and not a "Study Bible"...then they could drop the cross references in the middle. Any suggestions for a small bible but with a slightly larger font? thanks, Tim. 😊*

Can anyone tell me where the name "Pitt Minion" comes from? How did it get that name and what does it mean literally? I've searched, but haven't found anything about the origin of the name.
@guymontag349
@guymontag349 3 года назад
The Pitt Building, built to house the Press and named after William Pitt, Prime Minister of Britain and Member of Parliament for Cambridge University, lent the name to series of Pitt Press publications from the nineteenth century onwards. Minion is a traditional term for a type size of approximately 7 point, giving text of about 10-11 lines to the inch. Hope this helps.
@Alarcahu

I really like the form factor but with a font less than 7pt (!) there’s no way…

Huh. When I got a Pitt (to be fair it was a couple years ago) the top of the line goatskin ran me $99. Maybe because it was KJV?
@AFrischPerspective
@AFrischPerspective 3 года назад
Yes, I got mine for less than $90. The retail price is not usually what the Bible is sold for, just what it is technically worth in the retail market.

@@epikdraken Pitt Minions are also available in KJV, NKJV, ESV, NASB, and NLT, although the NLT version is sometimes difficult to find. I heard a rumor that Cambridge may publish a CSB version sometime in the future. Don’t know if that’s true or not.
