Definitely an underwhelming trade deadline, but we did what we had to, recouped what we could and hopefully got a great leader to be next year's backup. Frustrating but far from a fireable offense!
It was an underwhelming trade deadline for us, but we got some picks to use for future trades. Allen will be a serviceable backup, but for a potential 2nd rd pick its alot, but Fitzgerald better be busy this offseason
This allows Schmid to go back to Utica and saves Daws from having to play so many games. They can move Vitek in the offseason and look for a true top tier goalie. I don't see Allen as the starter going into next season but at least he can help ride out the rest of this one.
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN Just emphasizes the importance of getting a true starting goalie to keep him from getting 40 starts. But if they make the playoffs, losing the 2nd will be worth it because it will mean that the goaltending was addressed well enough. Plus, they got that 2nd from Winnipeg, so if they don't use it in a trade, they will still have a pick in that round no matter what.
I saw that too, saw that his high danger area save percentages where better than VV, Daws, and Schmid, but we didn't get Defensive help and lost Miller so its going to be tough, I want to see Hataaka called up, but have a feeling Desimone will get a look soon
This is NOT a good deal by Fitz ,he ABSOLUTELY dropped the ball here on this ,another goaltender under .900 ,should've waited for the off season, absolutely horrible deal .
This is more to bandaid the rest of the season and have a better option as a backup next year. Hell get a #1 this summer. This is also to give daws and schmid time, allen not worth a 2nd rd pick though, that was bad
I agree, why do this now, Allen was rumored earlier in the year and would've helped if he was brought in and Ruff was let go weeks earlier, Fitzgerald waited too long!
Well get a #1 in the offseason. Allen will be the backup and Daws & Schmid develop in Utica. Thats the plan Fitzgerald laid out in the presser after the trade deadline
it seems like whenever u extend a contract, they disappoint. We did it for Hynes - fired next yr, we did it for Ruff - fired next yr. Fitz is looking like same pattern- he did nothing to improve this team this yr and was way to slow to can Ruff
The goalie I wanted was Kähkönen. I think that would've been a much better move. He's only 27, but would San Jose not retain money? I am also at the point where going for Markstrom is a mistake. Go in deep on Ullmark. He's 4 years younger and will provide so much more stability.
