Welcome aboard NJT's Northeast Corridor Line. Today, 5/27/16, we are on board Train 3830, a New York bound local train consisting of an 8 car Arrow III EMU set (Tuesdays through Fridays), starting out from Trenton Transit Center and riding all the way to New York Penn Station (1:33:40). We make ALL local stops as follows: Hamilton (3:50), Princeton Junction (9:35), New Brunswick (32:30), Edison (36:50), Metuchen (42:05), Metropark (47:00), Rahway (53:00), Linden (57:50), Broad Street - Elizabeth (1:02:40), North Elizabeth (1:06:20), Newark Liberty International Airport (1:09:00), Newark Penn Station (1:14:55), & Secaucus Junction (1:25:00). There is so much schedule padding between Princeton Junction and New Brunswick that after Midway, we coast all the way into New Brunswick and still make it in a few minutes early. The conductor of this train is very enthusiastic and entertaining, and shares my love of this equipment and my general dislike of the MultiLevels. He is definitely worth riding with if you have the time and the money. The overall ride quality of the car I am on is pretty decent. I am sitting in the first car (1436), which is designated as one of the quiet cars, so enjoy the pneumatic brake sounds, in addition to the ABB AC traction motors / inverters and the Wabco AA2 horn, all in 60 FPS. I'm really going to miss these cars when its time for them to go to the scrapper.
In addition, you will notice the progress that has been made between Jersey Avenue and Hamilton in installing the high tension catenary system. A few more of the cat poles have been erected on their concrete foundations and installation of the cat bridges has started between Midway and Princeton Junction . We also pass by (and get passed by) several other trains along the NEC. Hope you guys enjoy the ride =)

That stretch between Princeton Junction and New Brunswick sure has changed a lot. It's really weird seeing the interlockings at Monmouth Junction all torn up, not to mention the new high-speed switches west of Jersey Avenue.

GenesisSanctuary hey there. I havent been past Princeton Junction in a while. I took a njt bi level (hamilton to nyc) in September for world maker faire but that was right when i first got into railfanning. I have been wondering, why do they always have all those arrow iiis at jersey ave in the railfanning videos? Is there a yard there? I have only been to the morrisville yards. (My dad knows the mayor of morrisville and got me a small tour) Also u wouldnt happen to know why njt leased 7 septa aem-7s and alp-44s if they arent going to use them? Sorry im rambling too much

This had to have been over 5 years ago. Me and my dad were on an NJ transit train going from Trenton back to my home near Edison Station. We were on one of those older single decker trains from the 70s or 80s, i think it was an Arrow. So we had just left Trenton and we couldn't have gotten farther than East Trenton (Which located about halfway between Trenton Transit Center and Hamilton Station when the train stopped and the lights went off. We spent like 15 minutes until they were able to get the train moving again.

I live down South and my first experience with NJT was back in the 90s. In fact my recollection of those trips most of the time was of that very Arrow trainset. This past Memorial Day wknd was my first time on the multi_level. I think i must agree; I like the Arrow better. Don't know why. Actually, I do. On the multi_level it took some walking to find a restroom. Not good. 2ndly connecting westbound is troublesome. I missed my SEPTA by two minutes. Not good. Those discrepancies aside, I still rate the NJT experience as a positive

Fan Railer checked the schedule; tons of fat in there. Allows 21 min from Princeton Jct to New Brunswick. That's how they could coast it. Also entertaining hearing those guys talk about the old CNJ and such.

I have been on this train over a dozen times but in never understand why at 22:18 an extra part of the poles is added and at 45:13 they go away. i live around 0.7 miles from the edison station.

How fast did you go between Princeton and New Brunswick? Was it 60mph the whole way or were there sections where you could do 80mph also
@FanRailer
@FanRailer 7 лет назад
We got up to 80 out of Princeton, then coasted down gradually to New Brunswick. We were doing about 40-45 by the time the engineer grabbed a brake application to bring it into the station.

A question: DO you need advanced booking to ride on NJ Transit trains ? My parents are visiting the region this July. They will be travelling from Trenton to Newark Liberty airport st.
@FanRailer
@FanRailer 6 лет назад
No, NJT is commuter rail. Just buy your tickets at the station and board.
@davidthaler7018
@davidthaler7018 5 лет назад
In contrast, you DO need to book in advance to ride on Amtrak, which also serves those 2 stations.

What was a Septa train doing in the shot?
@conorheinzen4562
@conorheinzen4562 7 лет назад
It was at Trenton. Septa has a train line from Philly to Trenton. Trenton is where Septa ends and NJT trains to New York begin
@ecoRfan
@ecoRfan 5 лет назад
Yeah Trenton is both commuter railroad’s terminals. SEPTA to Philadelphia and NJ Transit to New York.
@floydjohnson7888
@floydjohnson7888 8 месяцев назад
And just to make things interesting: -it seems that NJT's NEC line tried over the years to synchronize with SEPTA's Trenton line. -the Penn Station end of their NEC service sort of links to rail service covering Long Island. I'm not yet sure about there being a non-subway connection to Grand Central Terminal and its Metro-North routes, one of which is technically in New England. -Sometime in 2023, Maryland and Delaware worked out a preliminary agreement for Maryland Rail Commuter to serve Newark, DE, at the current SEPTA terminus.

You save a lot of bucks taking SEPTA's Trenton line from Philly to Trenton and then NJT to Newark Penn and PATH the rest of the way to NYC.
@EpicThe112
@EpicThe112 5 лет назад
@@physetermacrocephalus9986 good point but the PATH trains only bring you two World Trade Center from Newark Penn Station therefore requiring a transfer to these trains to Midtown at World Trade Center they are 2,3, A,C,E R & W trains but late night service it's going to be 2, A E & N trains from WTC to midtown. PATH train to Midtown Manhattan 34th Street B,D,F,M 6th Avenue & N,Q,R & W trains require a transfer at Journal Square from Newark Penn Station. If going from Journal Square to Port Authority Bus Terminal Times Square 42nd Street you can change at these stations 1,2 & 3 trains 14th street N,Q,R & W 34th Herald and lastly A,C & E trains World Trade Center
