Not really, at least not so for ultramarines, it is shown pretty clearly in "Know no Fear" that Guilliman strongly believed in commiting only as much force as as is necessary and the rules to determine how much is necessary are explicitly stated in the book.

@@standarddeviation7963 Ya Leman found out that Horus intervened in that situation in order to force the conflict, but as Leman reflects on it, he feels that Horus trickery or not, they did the right thing in destroying Prospero and wrecking Magnus. He felt that in the end it was justified and Magnus had brought it on himself. I'm a loyalist fan, but dang, poor Magnus. Russ wasn't his biggest fan and every step of the way in his HH story, it seems he is getting sucker punched from everything. He is the guy that tries to warn everyone and calm them down, but in the end he gets stampeded and beaten by both sides, all while both sides feel it is for the best.

More importantly does Magnus know that it was Horus who ordered Russ to attack.

One of my favorite characters in all of 40k.

No offence to you or anyone else, but whilst Wolf Lord Rho is a great channel, he's nowhere near as good a voice actor as the extremely talented professionals they use on all of their audiobooks. Literally anything read by Richard Banks or Toby Longworth is amazing, and they even used fricking Brian Blessed to voice Gotrek!!

@@EternalQuestion I only have three audio disks with multiple stories on them so I haven't heard everything the black library has to offer but the narrators for those disks all suck. I'd much prefer Rho over anything I've heard.

Russ was given his orders from the Warmaster. To disobey him was to disobey The Emperor. "Loyalty to Horus is loyalty to The Emperor", said by Big E himself so before Istvan Horus was (nearly) the ultimate authority over the legions.That and the wolves were disgusted by the sons to begin with. Also, Russ did have some serious regret over Prospero. He spoke of it before he went to attempt the assassination of Horus. Anyway, that's the best I've got.

Well while I am with you on the fact that Magnus and the TS got a very _very raw_ deal in their past history, I doubt Bjorn feels shame. Leman after learning that he was tricked by Horus, comes to the conclusion that although regrettable, the destruction of Prospero and the TS still needed to happen and was justified. So if that is the opinion of their primarch, I'm guessing the apple wouldn't fall far from the tree and Bjorn probably thinks they did the right thing. Especially now that the TS have turned to chaos (sidestepping the fact that the Space Wolves, Emperor, and Horus _forced_ them into that path), they probably feel that the TS needed to be wiped out because they were "weak" when tempted. One of the things that so bitterly divided Russ and Magnus was the use of warp powers because they could corrupt (or be dangerous as the corruption of chaos was largely unknown during the council and subsequent edict of Nikea). They probably just think they were always going to fall and it was inevitable. Also, as far as no discipline afterwards, the Emperor didn't know about Horus and what was happening. Magnus was going to warn Big E, but when he saw that he wrecked daddy's project, he pulled his consciousness back and didn't tell him. So from the Emperor's perspective, Magnus broke the edict and ruined a _major_ project, didn't stand down when Russ came to drag him back to terra (once again at the time they didn't know Horus was traitor and blocked the communications), and fought back against Russ when he arrived (yet again they didn't know they weren't going to fight back until Horus' little "contribution" started slaughtering things in secret). So from his perspective he had a wayward son that seemed determined to mess stuff up and Leman had simply done as instructed, so why scold him? From Magnus' perspective he had tried to stop Horus, saw that he had turned traitor, tried to warn the Emperor, accidentally destroyed the webway, then got attacked by everyone after seemingly no communications for parlay. Sucks, but a masterstroke from Horus. By the time the pieces fell into place for the Emperor that Horus had masterminded everything they didn't have time to spare for chastisements. They were at war and losing and ultimately Leman had followed the command of the Emperor to the letter in his actions against Prospero, so I don't think the Emperor even considered scolding Russ.

@@danceswithgerbals1 Russ was pissy about being used and manipulated, he had zero sympathy for Magnus and the Thousand Sons. At the end of the day Magnus and the Thousand Sons got in bed with demons and they did that before the Wolves razed Prospero. The Wolves attack only served to get Magnus to give himself over to Tzeentch entirely.

40k in a nutshell. People are petty, get angry, make bad choices, trillions are obliterated.
