We applied for planning permission to build a brand new house on our farm in Portugal, and even though we thought we'd be gearing up to break ground by now, we still haven't had approval through from the Agricultural Reserve yet, but we won't let it slow us down. We're revealing our plans for what we're going to do in the meantime, preparing for the day when we knock it all down. It's exciting times, with plenty to keep us busy, and you're a huge part of helping us prioritise and decide what direction to go in.

Every time you look into the eyes of the boys, your looking at the most important thing you’ve built and continue to build and form through out their lives. And don’t belittle your accomplishments with the garden , that keeps your family fed and healthy. Every meal you cook, every hug you give, every load of laundry is a brick in the lives of your children. MOM is in my opinion, your greatest accomplishment.

Tara I love that you’re stretching your wings. I think that your approach is very different from John’s. His is a conceptual process while you’re more systematic. If I were you I’d find a plan for an “L” shaped counter (table) and use that as a guide to build yours. Then find a pizza oven plan and use that to build yours. By working from a plan you will develop the skills to create a plan for future projects. But building it is a big enough challenge on its own. Remember, the goal is not to learn to build just like how John builds. The goal is to build a counter and oven. Also there’s a 50/50 chance that one of your boys will grow up to problem solve like John does and the other will problem solve as you do. To be the biggest help to both boys, you need to develop skills for your way of problem solving so when you see one of them struggling to get started, you say to them, let’s find a plan we can follow. My 2 cents.

I cannot do crafts or cook to save my life. I wear makeup, suits, pantyhose and high heels during the day but on my time off I have a tool belt, jeans and boots on in order to build stuff. I have more tools than most men. You go girl! You’ve got this.

I agree you have lots to do to fill in the time lag with planning approval. Do you need approval for the underground bunker? Or because it's not in sight, you can just get on with it. I love your boys. How funny when Caruso asked you to finish talking as he was relaxing. ❤ The tree house looks amazing. I imagined a slide being the getaway through the escape hatch. 😊

Hi I'm portuguese from Madeira living living and working in England for the last 18 years, Eastbourne East Sussex. Let's put this way ther is so many factors for your planning permission don't come through. Area, natural habitats etc. But for me one of this two you r nomads, and it shows on your clips both of you can't finish a project and that shows on your clips, and that is your nayboures see and every one sees! You youtube guy earn money with this but on a remote country side most of the people don't hontherstan. About the agricultural department must be about wild or areas of the property being clean and something like for you to a fire department path around your property in case of a wild fire. But I still think that's not the main. You should be honest to the viewers and tell the reason don't leave to espactulation. Just be honest, as Portuguese it's only I ask. All the best for all your family. Forgot to tell you I'm 62 years old, my name Augusto.

John can you attach a ship's wheel at the end of the lookout point? Caruso could sail his "ship" into his imagination as Blackbeard or Admiral Nelson!!! Tara, I am reminded of a letter to an advice columnist many years ago. The writer was saying she didn't want to devote 5 years to get her college degree because she'd finish at age 45. The columnist asked, "And how old will you be if you don't do it?" It made a major impact on my thinking! Have a good week! Enjoy your creativity! Think big! Blessed Be!

The tree house is going to be fantastic as well as the pizza oven. Tara, believe in yourself. You can do it! About the house, wait for the permits. If you build without permission the municipality can take it down legally. You have a lot of projects going on. Stick to them! Crusoe and Sawyer are always helping! So cute those two! Crusoe knows already the basic idea of "vatupassi" and was so cute watching the airbubble. 😊 And of course Tara can do her projects nicely. You just have to start. Learning by doing is the best way. And you helped John bravely when John had pain in his shoulder. You are both very talented people. And boys will learn by helping.

Fabulous vlog. Just love watching Crusoe helping his dad build the tree house. They are going to have hours of fun up there, John included 😂. You do amazing Tara and I have every faith in you being able to build the most fabulous Pizza oven. See Crusoe has dumped his footwear again 😂😂 brilliant, I was so like him when I was young, hated shoes. Loved watching the boys walking down together, they are adorable. It's so exciting watching John & Crusoe build the tree house. I grew up in a small Canadian prairie town, and the troop of kids I belonged to built endless treehouses, forts and rafts. The body of water for rafting was only 3'-4' deep. But endless hours of imagery fun. This build is bringing back so many memories for this 74 yr old gal!! Thank you so much. 😊💕🇨🇦

Hi Tara, whilst watching your video and hearing you say that you always tell yourself you can't do something made me want to tell you a poem by Bruce Lee that I read to myself every time I tell myself "I can't do that", so I hope you type it up, put it in a frame and hang it on the wall in your tiny house above your computer to remind you to try everything you want to and not be fearful of failure. So her goes. It's called A MESSAGE FOR LIFE If you think you are beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don't, If you like to win but think you can't, It's almost certain that you won't. The tree house is a perfect diversion while you're waiting on your permit. Sawyer is growing fast and will soon be the perfect age to join his big brother Crusoe in tree house adventures. And when your permit finally arrives; the boys will have the treehouse while you're busy planning the "big" house. Tara, I think the India trip really did you good and you're spirits are soaring. Hi gang !! Thats splendid, Tara, to make a pizza oven !!! Its gonna be very fine,I am sure !! And also save the soil you dug up,and store it and use it somewhere, but not the compost...As for the tree house,, it got a speedy start, but why so narrow part, sticking out?? Anyway, the escape hatch will of course be loved by the boys,with the winding track around the big boulder.....Short winter, it seems. You are walking around like it was summer, but mebbe the nights are still a bit chilly......Its so nice see you charged to the hilt for all projects awaiting !! It will be a smashing summer, I believe..... As for shortt winters, february used to be the coldest month where I live, but now almost all snow is gone,,,,,,its a bit weird, but what can one do....The light is longer, and mebbe time to remove the winter tires...hm...Allda bestest from mikke...;-D

Go for it, Tara. Build and learn. You can do it. From an early age I helped my father and learned. I helped my husband and learned. I help my sons and learn. Along the way I also do. I make this and that. Simple tables, garden above ground planter boxes, lots of other woodworking projects. My son knows I love my own tools and gives me new ones for my birthday and Christmas. Wheee! Oh, I also ran our family excavating business for many years. A woman can do anything, be creative and have fun. I look forward to watching Tara build her family pizza oven. Love the tree house build with an escape hatch & John's enthusiasm for his boys adventures! Tara, I too want to put my stamp on our ongoing backyard Oasis we're creating. Unfortunately I'm laid up trying to self heal a tear in my meniscus. I'm staying positive I'll not need surgery & be back on my feet to build my trellis! I love watching John build in wood..it’s just magical! But all power to your elbow Tara to say “ I think I can”! Unfortunately it does take ages to get permissions through in Portugal and it’s really disappointing but it really isn’t worth building without the approvals or eventually the Câmara will just make you take it down. You’ve got lots of exciting projects to be getting on with! Just one more thought…would it not be possible to clean up inside the derelict house and put a temporary ceiling up to give you more space? So glad the treehouse was the priority. Our kids had one when young…they spent a lot of time in it. There was a bucket on a pulley system that was used to hoist up lunches and snacks. Your boys will always have very fond memories of their adventures there. ♥️

Good to see your spreading your metaphorical wings and learning new things, remember you are your own person and problem solve things differently to john, he dreams he builds and he changes stuff as he goes along and it turns out great in the end 😀 but you are a planner and learner and that’s how you get more confidence in your abilities, look at the garden and how much you have learnt from that, you planned it out, planted all sorts of stuff and this yr you are so much more confident with what and where you are going to grow. The same is for this project with the pizza over, use skill share or something and look for different plans of what you want to build ( wooden counters, pizza oven, small roof over it all the choices are your) so you can adapt them to make what suits you, again there are plenty of places you can go on line to learn to cut/join/mortar/ drill things you, it will give you a lot more confidence to then go to John or even Mario and tell them what you want and what you need from them to help you achieve this plan, if you tackle it like John does I feel you will overwhelmed with it and talk yourself out of doing something I KNOW you will be able to do by yourself and it will be something you will be so proud to look at every day.

Yes Tara! This actually brought a tear to my eye. As a mum I have felt this same burst of ‘Yes, I will and I can’ it’s quite a profound feeling. Tara, it may be too late for this suggestion, but if you can find a doghouse that is referred to as an igloo, it is the perfect shape for a pizza oven. I have watched several RU-vidrs use the dog igloo for the shape for their pizza oven. For whatever it’s worth. I’m so happy that you are not limiting yourself. I cringe a little every time I see another barrow if cement or plants being disturbed. I loved that the “old ways” - the cobbling did not need cement, just gravel. I hope you remember to listen to the land. Ultimately, the long term difference is air quality you experienced in India versus what you have on your farm. We ALL need to adapt our wants to the planet’s needs. Love to see the beginnings of the next years garden.

Good afternoon to you in Amarante, so much to think about, glad you agreed to our suggestion about the extention to the Stone House, seeing John working now on the Tree House, I could just imagine the care he will have when looking to help building the Big House in a few months, Lord willing when all your papers are in order. Tara, dear friend, MOTHERHOOD to a woman it is the greatest reward, do not ponder on what society dictates what you should do, being the CARETAKER of a family has privileges that one considers too late in Iife, just seeing your little boys around you brings so much JOY to see, you can not even imagine. Yes, you can certainly built the pizza oven since you will be there I am sure most of the time baking other things. Add a rooftop it will be useful when bad weather. All in all, you are very blessed. Glad you share with us, SPRING is in the air, we hear the birds chirping all around you. Truly blessed.🙏🥰👱👶👍👏🌄🏡🇵🇹

Tara, you’re amazing! - I also watch a channel called Jake and Nicole, they live around Vancouver, a while ago now they made the most beautiful pizza oven , they also used gorgeous tiles similar to your little ones, I thought it might inspire you, I think you would love it. Oh Im so excited about the stone house extension, the tree house, the bio pool (which I forgot to mention on the last video) and now Tara's pizza oven build. It isnt our ability to hold us back, its confidence in our ability that does. Recovering from a mental health breakdown really affects my confidence and I just dont have the mental ability to think how to do anything, so now Im at the stage where it is just lack of confidence thats making it harder than it should, but Im hanging in there to prove my confidence should be stronger. Crusoe saying 'mum stop Im trying to relax' lol children say the funniest things xx

Absolutely brilliant how you are teaching boys & me how to purely teach your boys how to sustain themselves! You can see how Sorya ( so) little brain is absorbing everything & he can discuss it back to you both, he even observant of Danger! I would have had fear of the drop offs, etc of little people BUT after watching I can see how the Beware is there… Sawyer of course still has to watch.. spot on BUT I am sooooo impressed! Both of you have it Down on parenting skills. You speak to them as an average person.. an why you do something then positive reinforcement…. there are many teenagers here in USA… have no clue! The family BOND is spot ON! Suggestion.. Hobbit House. ( space for Root cellar, canned veggies etc for winter, keep potatoes, etc. 😀🤙. Have you started teaching how to read.. I sure u reading to them. Can’t wait to see Sawyer personality & voice comes along. Keep cell phones away from HEADS… keep them off SOCIAL MEDIA!!!! We learned & seeing destruction to children! Psychological problems. BE ALERT. Media issues to Brain. You & John be careful of distance to headshot… 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙🤙. By way I could not have handled that trip to India! 🤙🤙🤙 to you for enduring. I was stressed just watching… I had empthy for your Hubby because he knew he was responsible his wife & boys! Totally different from a single explorer… world is changing. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 please teach boys religious traing if some type for foundation of Life. Wish you had a girl but wow the time to get to that point!!!! ❤❤❤

I agree to teach them about the Lord and the Word of God, seeing the events going around in the world, the ONLY things that are valid, the Word of God, marriage and family, the bringing up of children with the correct views given by the Lord and not political/bureaucrats. We see what is happening in the schools how they are endoctrinating children, transgenderism, transhumanism, the need of eliminating overflow of people. If I could I would homeschool them. Sad.

I hope that you soon get your building permission. I do how ever love all that you are doing on the farm at the moment, the new road/drive, the hobbit house, now the fort and pizza oven, I would say you are very busy not to mention what you have just planted for your first crop this year. Crusoe&Sawyer will have so many memories of playing in their treehouse-imagining and dreaming! "The wild boys!" in Peter Pan will have nothing on them! Like John says,they will hide away under their escape hatch for hours and you will have to coax them in at dinner time! You are giving them a wonderful childhood that most kids would give their "eye teeth!" to have! Most of all they will not be relying on their devices for adventure-they will making their own fun in real time! I always found as long as you were working on a project you were happier and life rolled along more smoothly! Kudos to you,Tara for picking a Pizza Oven to build! Yum!❤ All the best! Sandy&Andy

Creativity is good. I tend to be the same way. My husband is really good with wood and electrical and plumbing. Me--not so much. But I do enjoy working outside and fixing things. Thankfully, our husbands let us and encourage us! Your boys are so sweet. We look forward to your weekly episodes.
