This cookie has been my nemesis for more than 50 years. I spent YEARS trying to get them to turn out correctly, but to no avail. Our children were always disappointed because the cookies I made were either runny and never got firm or they were too hard and crumbled before I could even get them all scooped out. Honestly, I gave up on them years ago and even took the numerous recipes I had tried out of my cookbook. After watching your video, I told my wife I was going to give them ONE MORE TRY and then never make them again if I failed this time. So, 30 minutes ago, I sucked in my breath, straightened my back, determined that I would get these right, and turned on the burner. I DID IT! They turned out PERFECTLY!!! My wife has already eaten two and they are exactly the way they should be! They are my nemesis NO MORE!!! I can hardly wait for our children to arrive tomorrow for Christmas. They won't believe that I actually made these cookies. Thank you, Momma Joyce, for your recipe, your detailed instructions, and for making it look so easy. I always enjoy your videos. Now, I think I'll go make another batch.....just because I can!

My mamaw used to make these all the time! I used to stand beside her by the stove and watch her make these, as well as other things; she taught me a lot! Over the past 3-4 years, she’s gotten severe dementia and I’m her 24/7 caregiver so she doesn’t have to be put into a nursing home. I miss being able to ask her how she makes certain dishes, remember when’s, etc, so it’s so nice to watch these videos; it’s almost like being able to watch Mamaw cook again, so thank you so much for posting these. They mean more than you’ll know♥️

If you don’t mind, I have a small suggestion. Since this is Momma Joyce’s Country Cooking, how about adding her face to the RU-vid channel? I think more people would relate to the channel better. Don’t get me wrong though, I absolutely love your momma! She also has an amazing son to do this with. Both of you are super blessed!
Oh man she reminds me of my mom and the exact same way she made them but sometimes they'd stay a little soft or would be dry and crumble and she always told me it kinda depends on the weather and just how humid it is

Used to make these in the 70s! Still a favorite.... Though I add a bit more sugar to make them a bit crumbly, not so soft and chewy. Thanks for sharing 😊😊
I had a go at these cookies and they worked out fine for me, thank you for posting the video for all of us. I made these for my friend who has her birthday on the 18th of May she wanted some Sprinkles on top .
My family loves these cookies! I also make them using the same recipe but use one cup white sugar and one cup of packed brown sugar and leave out the chocolate. Also very good!!

So happy to see you looking so well! This was my Mom's go to cookie recipe! My favorite part as a child (and still is as 61 years old!) was scraping the pan while the little bit left was still warm. If I ever over cook them and they get crumbly, I break it up over ice cream, Yum! Love to watch you cook!!

I have a Recipe from my Mama that is over 75 yrs old.... It made like this but WITHOUT the Peanut Butter! I have Never seen a recipe like hers ... others Always put in Peanut Butter.
