It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive RU-vid experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...
This time, as we test a 2005 Hyundai Sonata (NF) 2.4 CDX Automatic, which was absolutely wonderful! Hold onto your seats as we discover yet another beige leather interior, deal with hand controls, waft along in the manner of an American car and find some useful boot space. Nothing untoward, then...
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

We've got the 2007 model that was imported from Korea so it's 2.0L and honestly a great car we had it for 8 years so far it's very reliable love it and nice video mate!

Yes, I did this in rather a hurry, as I didn't know it was coming to the event at all. Thank you ever so much indeed for watching and commenting!

Not sure I have ever seen this gen of Sonata, but it looks a great car and being a Hyundai well built and good value for money. Excellent review as always.

Yes sir! At this sort of money, it does seem like quite a bargain. Very relaxing and easy to drive.

I really like underdog cars like this Sonata! Seems loosely based on the Honda Accord & Mazda 6 style wise.

Yes, a bit bigger than either of those, but very much along the same lines. I did quite like it...

Not a car I've taken much notice of to be frank but I think I like it - by the way those steering column stalks look exactly like the ones on my 2012 Kia.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes, it's definitely not one that is the most extrovert in character, but I quite like it. Wouldn't be surprised if those column stalks are identical to the ones in your Pro_cee'd!

Looks a great car, do like korean cars, the indicator/wiper controls look same as on my 2009 carens. How about a no budjet review on a kia carens, yes no style or street cred but great value for money and reliability, thats what matters for low budget cars.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes sir, a superb amount of luxury for not much money! Would love to do a Carens, I have only ever driven a first generation one, but plenty of them must be in No Budget Reviews territory by now.

This vehicle is one of the models that started Hyundai's sales ascendancy it the United States. Competitive with it's rivals with a growing reputation for reliability and durability and the reassurance of a 10/100k warranty they sold like hot cakes. This generation is still a common sight on the road.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes, absolutely! They didn't have the long warranties over here until the early 2010s, but they certainly were seen as quite dependable, and here is the proof. I quite enjoyed driving this one, and would like to try a V6 one now, maybe in its sister car, the Kia Magentis (known as something else in America, I believe).
@phillipevans9414

@@lloydvehicleconsulting . I had a 2008 Magentis with the 2.7L V6 here in Australia, and it was a terrifically comfortable daily, and quite economical (similar to the 2.4L 4cyl, as the V6 had the 5 speed auto, whereas the 4cyl only had a 4 speed). The 3.3L in the Hyundai were known to be a bit thirsty(er). Great review of a car that I really like (I prefer the styling of the Hyundai to that of the Kia - the interiors are basically identical). Sorry to have to report that I have now gone over to the "dark side" and bought a "forbidden fuel" vehicle (2009 Skoda Superb Elegance TDI), as I now have to do regular long distance trips (800km round trip) and needed the better economy. Sorry! From a long time viewer, but first time commenter.

@@phillipevans9414 don't apologise for having a good long range diesel Lad because that is the very reason that manufacturers developed them, economy, and then Turbo charged them to match petrol performance. My last four vehicles have been diesel for long distance mpg and amazing torque for towing. I can't discuss them with Mr Lloyd of course 🤣. I can't even talk about my wife's beautiful MINI Cooper petrol because it has a Prince engine 🤣🤣. However, hopefully you don't have similar emissions regulations in your part of the world. The Superb is a very, very comfortable and practical car and, try as you may, you won't break it Lad. Our police in Northern Ireland use them. While in the Republic of Ireland the police are fond of the Hyundai i40 which is quite similar to the Skoda Superb.

I’ve never owned a Sonata or Kia Magentis but always thought they were a nice alternative to the usual European executive cars. The higher spec versions came fully loaded with leather trim etc and became depreciation was quite high they were a great value used buy.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Oh yes, sir! We do like a nice beige leather interior in particular, and depreciation on these was absolutely chronic on them, which means extremely good value for money secondhand.

Ooh we do like the Sonata 2.4 litre, the 2.0 litre may feel the strain a little but the 3.3 will be straining at the reins. With a little fake wood it is a front wheel drive Granada or Senator or maybe a Rover 820. The body roll would make it unlike a Peugeot 605 but bodyroll is ok as long as the car grips well enough. Reminds me of my 1993 Toyota Camry which was a top class long distance weapon but gripped well on quite narrow tyres. The boot of the Sonata looks very useful indeed. I would buy this or the equivalent Kia Magentis which looked a little more distinctive.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes, sir! I liked the post-facelift Magentis the most, they were available with a slightly smaller 2.7 V6. We do like a bit of fake wood, and the body roll was definitely noticeable, but not excessive. Definitely a taxi sized boot!

This and the Magentis are a very strong used car choice for very little money these days, bridging the gap between the very basic Accents and the cars that really launched the brand in the i-series

Yes sir! There aren't many of these around, but those which are out there are really quite good value. We may have an i30 coming soon, we have done an i20 and an i10 already, of course.

I believe I might have saw one just yesterday! Different colour, but similar model. Yes, they are popular because of the price point, warranty, etc. Different model ranges in the US; SE and Limited. I do not remember whether the Limited was V6 only! I must say they make a very good pre-owned vehicle, which is another reason why they are popular, and durable! It is rare to see a similar Toyota Camry that is a 2005. The Kia Optima is the Sonata underneath, totally different styling. I wonder if you can can a test drive and review of a Kia Optima? Excellent review!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
The Optima was sold as the Magentis over here, and I certainly would like to try one, probably even a V6! It depends if I get offered one, however. The Camry was not on sale over here between 2002 and 2019, so we couldn't compare them in that way, but we did get the Avensis.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting you say Sir that the Camry was not available in the UK after 2002. What I can tell you is that my 1993 JDM Toyota Camry had a 2074cc d----- Turbo engine that did not become available in the UK until we had the Avensis 5 or 6 years later. Maybe an earlier Japanese specification Camry would compare with the Sonata. I know that the boot on my 93 was easily 500 litres.
