The owner left her 2009 Nissan Altima sitting for a few weeks. Then she couldn't get it started...
Oh, and she has to drive it out-of state TONIGHT.
PHAD to the rescue!!
A simple jump-start turns into a fiasco...
Enjoy!

That's racist. I'm offended for the poor rat. We should just let them run free. They were here first. If they are so hungry they have to eat wires that's your fault. We shouldn't be allowed to use anything potentially toxic fixing the wires in case they need to come back. In fact, just give them the car. They deserve it. Make it a sanctuary car.

I propose a new tax on motorists in California and New York to pay for food distribution in their neighborhoods since we, the invaders have taken it away from them. And then starting with year model 2020 all cars must contain a minimum percentage of it's parts made from materials that are wholesome for rats to eat, managed and enforced by both the FDA and the ATF banning the possession or use of any weapon of any type that could be used in the commission of a rat murder. Then let them vote in the next election. (I feel so dirty posting this even as sarcasm)

Always enjoy watching your videos to learn from ..i got a small needle nose vice grips that i welded one side to a piece of i think 3/8 plate steel may be 4x4 inched . What this does is hold a wire or a connection of sorts while i solder it . I adjust the vice grips to the desired grip and it works ok . I used this several times .. thanks for the educational videos good job on building the jumper or whatever you call it hold the wires to solder them . I remember this and build a couple . Thanks

I bought a '73 Corvette from the original owner who said the passenger side power window hasn't worked in years. Rodents. Upon inspection about 6 inches of the power wire going to the motor was chewed through and in it's place was the rodent nest. Fortunately no rodents were home when I removed the nest.

I’m four years late to the party, but by 2023 I have learned about Deoxit and liquid electrical tape. I also learned about Hondas split loop designed to repel rodents. Two of these items I’ve learned from Ivan. I think applying all three to this job would have allowed a repair to the chewed wire without cutting and resoldering. With a proper depin tool kit, that wire could’ve easily been removed from the harness and heat shrunk, too. That’s assuming the little mouse didn’t get any of the strands risking future breakage, couldn’t see that from my phone. It’s so easy to armchair quarterback!

Check out a TS-100 soldering iron that runs off a laptop computer power supply (which in turn can be powered by a inverter off a portable jump-pack or directly off the car battery when you are out in the field or not near a 120V power source). The soldering iron is amazing small yet very powerful & the adjustable temperature control is amazing. I have not needed any of my other soldering irons since picking up my TS-100 a couple months ago. Tons of reviews and demos of the TS-100 on RU-vid for you to check out.

As soon as you started listing out all the problems and mentioned the car had been sitting, I thought a little critter has been chewing on a harness somewhere. Sure enough....I've had the same thing happen to my wife's Nissan 2006 350Z. It has just over 30K miles on it. Doesn't get driven all that much.....went out one day, fired it up, and the fuel gauge was not working, fuel low light was on.....I thought great, the sending unit is bad. I pulled the access cover to find a chipmunk had been living on top of the fuel tank. It had chewed through the sending unit wires and almost through one of the 12V feed wires for the fuel pump.

@Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics they make an excellent silicone tape these days that actually tightens up around the wires as it ages which is almost like heat shrink tube but without having to cut the wire to feed it over. You can buy it in hardware stores for repairing garden hoses.
@MrAI831
@MrAI831 6 лет назад
I use the Cold Heat soldering Iron. I was skeptical about it but for small automotive wires it works great. Less aggressive than the butane torch. Nice vid, I thought it would be a failed transmission like it did on a Nissan we owned which had a CVT.

In the workshop manuals, Nissan states in the Electric section that if you are leaving the car sitting for a long time without running it or having a charger on it, that you should Pull the "Elec Parts (Bat)" fuse in the fuse box (usually the cabin fuse box), and this will stop any drain on the battery. Stated both in the workshop manual for my 1995 A32 Maxima (Cefiro to you guys) and the workshop manual for my mums 2010 J32 Maxima (J32 Teana to you). Hopefully you find that tip useful for dealing with Nissans that are sitting for long periods of time.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 6 лет назад
what's a manual? people don't read them, if they did they'd pull the fuse, forget about it and end up with a tow bill anyway ( flashback to Eric-O's video with fuse missing lol)
@KSSilenceAU
@KSSilenceAU 6 лет назад
Simple solution to that, stick the fuse with some tape somewhere were it is clearly visible when getting in it with a note on it as a reminder. If people want to be so lazy they cant even do that. that is their problem and they will only learn the hard way with wallet damages.

They do make shrinkwrap that you can put around the wire - it's used in underground electrical splices - it has a zipper on it then you shrink it down - but its big and you need a serious torch to shrink the thing..

Most likely internal leak. Will need a rebuild or replacement. Did you have any luck with it? Mine has P1778 code also. Was going to order a new valve body but was told the trans is pooched. Mine drives fine till it hits about 45mph or 60kmph and then it wont shift anymore...but below that it runs awesome, no issues. Code only comes back if you push the gas hard and make it rev to about 4K rpm...

Ivan, It's a good idea to cover all the colored wires with electrical tape all the way. Think rodents can see color and they think the colored wires are edible food. Had the same issue with an evap wire one en express. The factory should also always cover the exposed colored wires to prevent this issue in the first place. Great debugging method.

Хорошее видеo. I enjoyed the brief Russian dialog here. I've appreciated Russian mechanics from the times I watched Lada owners crawling under their cars in the snow in Moscow during the 1990's. Toughness and ingenuity. Fixing their cars with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. No toolcarts. Конечно, a scanner is essential for modern cars. It makes me wonder how the current generation of Russian DIY's is keeping their cars running. Parts cannon? Brake cleaner? Ivan, it's your story to tell.

Actually, there are products out there like silicone self-fusing adhesive tapes out there that work pretty well if you can't use the heat shrink tubing. I've used them before and after the 12-24 hour curing time the bond is almost as good. The are activated by the stretch of the tape.. Just FYI to consider...

Good job, Ivan! Be careful with that parasitic draw though. I think it was Eric O... In one of his videos, the parasitic draw appeared only after one hour of the car being locked. So if you have checked that draw after all the systems go off (5-15 minutes) it could be that the battery can go flat again! Apparently in some cars there are systems that wake up after X hours to do something and if the electrical circuits are not good, bye bye battery!

Excellent work! Also there are cordless soldering irons available. Milwaukee M12 version is great but there are also cheaper brands on the market.
