I’m sort of new at cooking. I lost my wife a few months ago. She was the best cook ! Now I’m having to provide for myself. This was my grandmother’s tradition EVERY single morning (even after her husband died) … she kept the huge breakfast popping along with cheesy grits. Her and my grandpa owned their own farm where the good homemade sausages were made with real farmhouse chicken hatched eggs. We had a good and BIG breakfast every morning! I miss my grandparents so much.

You can also fry your sausage and break it up with a spatula. Leave it in the skillet. Add the flour and follow the rest of the recipe. Add your milk about half a cup at a time until you have what you need. The longer it simmers, the thicker it will get. I have been very fortunate to live in an area where I buy Kentucky Kernel Seasoned Flour. Fantastic for many things.

My mom and grandmother both employed me to help prep food, so I learned first-hand how to cook from them. I ended up being a bachelor until my early 30s, so I appreciated the skill to be able to cook a homemade meal for myself after I moved out. Now my wife (who also cooks) gets to enjoy it too! Literally one of the most important life skills.

He must have been pretty hungry or he was stuffing his pockets for later. :) The process is simple and easy to do, got to be for me because I’m no cook by any stretch of the imagination. I have been known to add some butter if my meat is a bit too dry. Also important for people to know when making gravy like this. So don’t forget that today’s food is filled with additives and such and that diseases such as cancer runs rampant and can be traced to things in our food. Don’t hate the old ways. Hi Becky, this is my first time viewing your channel, I hope you never get tired of hearing this.. your southern drawl is awesome! I was blessed to have my moms parents who were German and Italian (both very thick accents) raise me.. well for the most part. Then mom married when I was 5 to a very good man.. which meant I inherited another grandma, his mother. She was very southern with a thick accent as well! LoL This was not a wealthy woman by any means, in fact she struggled at times financially. She had 3 grown sons and had no intentions of having any other children in her mid 50’s.. but surprise! She had a daughter that was only a year older than myself when we met. Technically, her little girl was my Aunt by marriage but naturally we were raised more like sisters. I’ll tell you what, my southern granny made the best food out of practically nothing sometimes. Her biscuits and gravy were simple just like u showed in your tutorial but ohhh so flavorful! Just like you said, it didn’t take much sausage to feed a handful of ppl since it was only meant to flavor the gravy. I probably wouldn’t have tried rabbit in my lifetime had it not been for her southern cooking. Her fried chicken was to die for and she could do anything with a pot of beans and some cornbread when the budget got tight.. and it was delicious! Traditionally at Christmas time, we did not set out milk and cookies for Santa at her house but rather a bowl of butter bean soup and a homemade biscuit. One year us girls woke up early bc we were excited about the holiday.. and opening gifts of course. To our horror we caught mom/granny eating the bowl of butter bean soup! She told us that Santa had eaten most of it but he was behind schedule and had to go. Naturally she didn’t want the rest of that soup to go to waste. 😉 We we’re satisfied with her story (age6) and went back to bed. 😂 This will surely give away my age but us girls would watch Romper Room when we were little and like any child we wanted the same toys that were featured on the show but granny couldn’t afford that stuff so she would make us her own version, the woman was magic in my eyes. She didn’t have much as a child herself.. or as an adult for that matter but she knew how to make due.. and she always made it with lots of love and a dash of fun. She was a special lady, I will forever miss her until we meet again. 😊❤️🌻

The best way to thicken the gravy when its just too thin, in my opinion, is put a tablespoon of corn starch in a dish and mix in a 1/4 cup of water or milk and add in to the gravy a little bit at a time, stirring constantly until its almost the thickness you desire. It will get much thicker as it cools.
