Steel and Spark is on a mission to effect housing along the entire housing continuum. On a recent trip to Arizona I stopped in to see their Off Grid ADU the SB2 and found out they've got so much more going on. In this video I sit down with Steel and Spark founder Brian to find out about everything they offer including but not limited to apartment buildings. Watch and learn more about Steel and Spark, a Phoenix based company building off grid Prefab Homes.

CO2 is necessary for life. there is no more CO2 on earth than in the beginning... we live in fishbowl. European farmers purchase CO2 to grow food plants. This CO2 dilemma is a myth to create a mindset of fear to sell you other things and make you pay more for everything and reduce supposably reduce your "footprint" as a psych control mechanism. I agree we can use less more effectively and not be like the snake that consumes itself poisoning the planet but Carbon based fuels aren't the entire pollution problem at all. Throw away that doesn't degrade of poor quality that can't be repaired is the first but poisons like batteries or putting a million solar panels on farming land is as stupid as it gets too. Also using potable water to move human faeces is about as wasteful as it gets too.

Back to back weeks with company founders with huge hearts. Good people being successful while helping others. 🏆 Off grid homes rule. Off grid apartment buildings rules even more! I’d love to see them do this in my neck of the woods. We have a few prefab apartment buildings here in NYC but I have no idea about how they are powered. I’ve only heard a rumor that one or more are not Con Edison powered. Steel and Spark would be a welcomed addition to NYC IMO. 🥰 This update is jammed packed with info Kerry. Interesting off-grid housing. 👍 He mentioned the water would last for 2 months, but he didn't say how much water delivery would be. It might be nice if you could put it on a property that has a well.
@carmenmariacortesmarin2664
@carmenmariacortesmarin2664 Месяц назад
I guess if you don’t have a choice, 1250 gallons will last you two months, but the US Geological Survey puts the average at 80-100 gallons per person. If we went with 80 gallons, that’s only going to last 15 days. And as you said, he doesn’t take into consideration the cost of the water supply plus the transportation. In some places they charge you only for the transportation, but it isn’t cheap. Good concept, but for a transition home, like he said.

1000% agree with the consumption idea. A single pair of jeans takes like seven or nine thousand gallons of water!! The textile industry is doing major damage to our environment, especially outside of the US. It’s NUTS! When I think about getting a new pair of jeans, I think about getting the used pair at the thrift store. I will never again go to the department store and buy Denim, and I will never again actually throw clothing away.This past two years has blown my mind when I decided to educate myself. I don’t think a single person on this planet can afford to be ignorant about consumption. If we want to live on this planet, we simply must be informed, and these issues must be taught in school very early and in depth.

I don't know. The price seems high. Believe it or not you can still buy ready made homes in some areas for 150-200,000. I can tell you that is so in the north part of California. To make such homes financially desirable they should be around $50,000. My favorite one of these small homes I have ever seen was one that was made of something like polyurethane glass shaped like a tube with a price tag of $20,000. I believe it was 22 feet wide. The only issue I came across with that one was that it doesn't hold heat very well. But I really loved the all glass tube look and for that price am thinking about getting three of them and hooking them close together in a horse shoe fashion. Now if I can only find the company name again. Maybe in my old emails when I sent it to someone here who asked me about it.

Did all these prefab homes spike in price? Any decent options for $50k? I think that's what the casita from Boxable started at. $185k is so expensive.

Like the company Boxabl, IF you can't snap one of these in your backyard these eventually just become another version of mobile homes where it's NOT permitted to place on a piece of R-1 land #1 State and City codes must change to allow theses #2 Must keep these units under $59k for one bedroom, $79k for 2-bedroom

Don’t shipping containers degrade after 20ish years due to rust damage?

I do like his sustainable point of view, but I can't afford that $185,000 price tag for that ADU. And how do you replenish the water without a water line?
@KerryTarnow
@KerryTarnow Месяц назад
if it's an ADU it could come from the main house. If not it would have to be delivered

No one can afford that for a shoe box. That’s a HOUSE price, not a steel cage.

Talking about saving co2 production may be some one need to speak to Elon about his space program:- A Starship flight with the Super Heavy booster will emit 2,683 tonnes of CO2, plus 1.7 tonnes of nitrous oxide. This greenhouse gas is 298 times more harmful than CO2, which means that over one flight, the rocket will release 3,189.6 tonnes of CO2e*. * carbon dioxide equivalent, a measurement that converts all greenhouse emissions into CO2 terms Elon is hoping for 144 or 12 a month launches of the super heavy in 2024 - equivalent to 459,302.4 tonnes of CO2e*. Like the idea of the containers though.

Just a little bit totally off subject... and I'm pretty sure Elon knows more about this than you do. You got the numbers from his company, after all 😂

I often wonder how much work would go into living off grid like this. How do you refill those water containers? That's a lot of water. Where do poops go? Ideally, it would be nice to be able to live like this.
@KerryTarnow
@KerryTarnow Месяц назад
If its in use as an adu you could fill it from an exterior tap, otherwise a water truck. Incinerator toilet 💩

Think these can be designed better. The studio kitchen is too small for most people. The water storage and battery storage could be consolidated to make room for a kitchen "L."

Nice, but worrying how shipping containers are being capitalised, but I do understand when a business does something they need to make their profits. The Grey water should be used to flush the toilets as well, then additionally after being flushed and re-filtered, it filters through right under inedible plants/trees. Crazy how we do flush toilets with direct clean bath and cooking water day in and day out.
