Well I hope your not sitting at home living off the taxpayers who are still going to work, because if you are then your part of the problem @@raincoast9010
The taxes are actually higher than that because she’s not counting all the tax you pay when you go buy food, buy clothes buy anything for God sakes you only have about 15% or less of your frigging paycheque left. It’s insane.!!!!
46% federal tax, then we have to pay PST and GST and now the Carbon Tax - how much is left - a pittance. We can barely afford to buy food, let alone a roof over our heads. And there they sit debating in committee, wasting time and our money. They should all be fired. 357,000 bureaucrats in Canada and they do nothing. But we have to hire foreign workers. Immigration is thru the roof, they are paid $3,000 per person each month so a family of 3 gets $9,000. This country is being ground into the dust by the psychopaths.
People act upset, but then just comment online and expect everyone do everything else for them. Maybe you should write your MPs, maybe take part in a rally/protest, anything but be a mouthpiece on the internet.
You are NOT paying that level of tax......if you have a pittance left to work with. You are just a plain liar....or absolutely self-centred and deluded. You have to earn a very significant amount of money....in the top 5% of incomes....to pay that rate. Get over yourself, bud!

Actually, Federal Income Tax rates for 2024 on TAXABLE INCOME (ie. after deductions and credits) not the higher EMPLOYMENT INCOME: 15% on the portion of taxable income that is $55,867 or less, plus 20.5% on the portion of taxable income over $55,867 up to $111,733, plus 26% on the portion of taxable income over $111,733 up to $173,205, plus 29% on the portion of taxable income over $173,205 up to $246,752, plus 33% on the portion of taxable income over $246,752 The marginal FEDERAL tax rates are the same for all Canadians regardless of provincial residence, however PROVINCIAL/TERRITORIAL marginal income tax rates differ. They add to total taxes but are not the responsibility of the Feds.
I wonder how much money will be available when I want to retire, been paying a certain amount on my pay cheques for 30 years so far, I doubt there will be anything left over.
The diminishing returns for higher tax brackets almost makes it not worth taking on so much extra responsibility. Unless of course you funnel the money into stuff that will be taxed as capital gains, dividends or written off instead of income.
Closer to 70% I would think. Remember in Canada income tax was a temporary measure to help pay for WWI. Being taxed on your earnings is a crime. But if they cut one tax they will just add another some where.
46% is just the marginal income tax if you're around $90k. It's not including every other tax (sales, carbon, property, etc). Yea we're more like 70% taxed at the end of the day.
The maximum marginal federal tax rate is 33%, and that's only for the income over 235k. Since I doubt you earn above 235k, you don't give 70% of your income to the Federal government. I'm not saying that we don't pay tons of taxes in Canada, but this video and your comment are pure nonsense.
I have no problem with the taking, but we get nothing in return. If I spend a million I expect a Ferrari, not a Ford Fiesta. healthcare is worse, transit is worse, gas is more expensive, food is more expensive, homes are unaffordable. what are our taxes doing exactly? With higher population they also make MORE tax dollars, but they didn't spend anything productive except war in ukraine, refugees and lining their own pockets. Meanwhile they cut pack healthcare to the point doctors only want to deal with one problem per swipe of the healthcard because of cut backs. Hospitals are overcrowded, staff overworked. Roads are crowded with cars because transit doesn't work and is poor service. List keeps going.
I've never understood how income tax is framed as a motive to not work, or not work more, or not seek higher pay. In the scenario presented, the worker is $8k better off for having done the overtime. -and if they want to leave that $8k on the table for what that overtime would entail, that's their choice. You could equally blame the employer for not sufficiently compensating them for that overtime, if $8k after tax is not considered worth the effort. What I would understand, is high income tax being framed as a motive to move countries, avoid it somehow, or elect a government that campaigned on taxing less, doing less, and finding ways to make the bureaucracy more efficient.
This is a fact. I'm an electrician and working in a facility that pays top wages. It's at the point where I don't know what the point is. I'm basically working for the recess bully.

Japan has high tax rates, they have the shinkansen, functional transits, healthcare, crack-free streets (actual cracks and the drugs), low crime. We pay high taxes for what? Canadian bureaucracy is one of the worst in the world for a democratic nation. Time to hold the government accountable. Not a single city in Canada is worthy of being on the world stage.
We pay high tax rate in Japan. Yes. 1. The Shinkansen is very expensive to use and most people here don’t use it. 2. Healthcare is paid for but we still pay 30% of the cost. If we work full time, the employer will pick up any bill over $30 IF it’s in one visit. 3. Low crime yes. Though I don’t see how that has anything to do with taxes. But here in Japan, we pay for 1. School lunches (kids don’t bring their own food) 2. Expensive school uniforms 3. Expensive school excursions 4. Double the cost of university that you pay in Canada. Private university even more. 4. Highways are not. One hour on the highway will cost you $20-30. 5. Expensive busses are comenplace. My bus to downtown and back is $10 6. Mandatory car inspection every two years is $1000-$1200 or more. Mine was $2500 last year. So it’s not as simple as it may seem
In my city (Ottawa), if you go downtown, you'll openly see people using drugs out in the streets. The homeless shelters here all have biohazard disposal boxes in the bathrooms full of used needles. All of this, and we're paying extremely high taxes. 😒

I don't know why these clowns are making a salary that only a brain surgeon should be making. They have already placed themselves above us, and have no idea how to reduce themselves to a lower level.
Most engineers cap out well before 140k. Engineers don’t make that much money anymore, the only way to make that kind of money is either getting into software, putting in loads of extra hours or getting into management.
@@libriumztalksdb9168 I would challenge that assertion. It depends largely on their discipline, performance, and years in industry. Engineers, in energy sector for example, easily make over $100k and many over $140k base. Plus, most earn annual performance awards of 10-20% of base and full benefits,. If at a management level they also earn stock-based rewards after base pay over $150k. A high performing engineer in management with 15+ years of experience and employed by large firm can gross, with benefits and awards, over $250k If you're a civil engineer in provincial or municipal government then yes you make far less.

Got a bonus of 1200, first one I got at my job since I didn’t have enough time in on my first year. Worked some overtime shift on the same pay to help out at work, because of the taxes I got to keep 100 of that 1200.

100k means nothing in major cities now, that's middle class wages. Middle class use to be 50-60k, its now 100k. after taxes you only keep like 65ish. @@ronnie-lynn Just to clarify, the 22k tax on 30k income, or 73%, is not possible. In reality, the tax was charged by CRA assuming the 30k would continue throughout the remainder of the tax year (ie annualized). But when the year end taxes are filed, it would be adjusted for her actual and lower total annual taxable income (after basic, rrsp and dependent deductions). Any excess tax charged for the one time overtime bump would be credited back to the account. Similar to excess tax installments paid to the CRA are handled. If you want to hear something really sickening... ...do some research on how much interest a bank makes by providing mortgages for a single house over the effective lifespan of that house. I forget the exact number/formula... but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 600% of the original value of the home... and as the cost of that home increases ... so does the amount of interest they make from the mortgages they provide. Anyone can declare non-residents and not pay taxes, they just have to pay for their own healthcare and save for their own retirement lol easy bargain for them. When they say they'll tax billionaires more, it means absolutely nothing. This is why billionaires from liberal democracies move to Monaco, to avoid paying taxes for services they don't need and protect their wealth which we don't have the luxury of. Only "income taxes" billionaires generate for the government is by creating jobs and employing us and we pay from our income tax from our hard work, that's why the government gives billionaires such lenience.
In New Zealand our taxes are even higher than Canada. So two years ago after working for 30 years I decided fuck it, I will only work 40 hours a month because the tax is so high there is no point in working 40-50hrs per week just to pay super high tax.

Not at all... my family of 6 (me.. my wife.. 4 kids under age 9) did exactly that in 2022. We stopped renting in the city. Bought a 32' rv for $9k (we paid $2000 a month for rent so the trailer basically paid for itself in 5 months) and moved onto 8 acres we bought in the country for $55k in late 2021. We've since built a two bay - 40x60x18 workshop with infloor heat and 1200 sqft of temporary living space. We put in our own water well.. which flows so much we need to ask neighbors to take some off our hands after we've fully stocked our 2000 gallon potable, and 7500 gallon irrigation water tanks (the daily flow from our well is roughly 100-120 gallons). Our own 14KW panel/24KW battery solar system.. (with 18KW diesel generator backup... that rarely ever gets used) which fully powers everything and is fully charged by 9-10am... maybe noon or 1 pm on particularly cloudy days. Full sized septic field that will accommodate our 2400sqft shop and 4000sqft home were building. We winterized the rv and made it thru two solid years outside.. fully exposed to the erratic Alberta weather.. with 3 weeks or so of -45⁰c to -50⁰c winter each year just to keep things interesting. Was it easy? Hell no... the learning curve is steep and very unforgiving. Were there times we wanted to give up? Hell yes... we almost packed it in and left when our 270 gallon drinking water tank froze solid one particularly cold winter night. Is it possible? Damn right it is! ..and my family is living proof of that! We went from paying to buy someone else a house and living paycheck to paycheck... to owning our own property.. owing no one.. anything.. and paying nothing for utilities. Our only expenses are property taxes.. insurance.. cell phone/internet... gas (for vehicles) diesel (maybe $400-$500 a year for the backup generator and 35hp tractor)... and whatever food we can't grow (we have 4 - 20' x 100' greenhouses for ALL of our vegetables and a 50' x 100' orchard for berries and tree fruits).. or livestock we can't raise (we have egg laying chickens, broiler chickens.. and turkeys... no pigs or cattle.. yet... lol.. maybe next year). Our whole family works our little farm every day.. it makes for long days... but it's gives you such an immense feeling of calm knowing that no matter what happens you will always have a warm place to live... clean water to drink... good healthy food to eat... and electricity to make everything comfortable. I STRONGLY recommend everyone consider doing it. Becoming self sufficient is the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my entire life.
I will vote for someone who gets rid of all these social programs like childcare, dental care, and other handouts given to shameless people who live out of other people's money. So, the people who actually work hard can get what they deserve.
Most of these programs are to help people who work hard and still can't get things like dental care, higher education, prescription drugs, because the people they work hard for don't pay enough to get these things. Can't speak for the whole country, but in BC, there are just under 170,000 social assistance recipients out of the 5 million people here. Are they "shameless"? Maybe some, maybe even many of them, but definitely not all of them. But even the people who work HARD, sometimes 2 or 3 jobs even, can't make ends meet and pay for dental care or prescriptions. Are they "shameless"? Maybe some of them, maybe many of them. Shameless people also underpay workers simply because they have the right to, and the right to make whatever amount of profit they want.
And you'd be an idiot for doing that. These are necessities of modern society and aren't the reason you're wallet is feeling squeezed. We've had these for decades. The reason your wallet is now being squeezed is we've slowly eroded the social systems that kept the corporations in check and propped up the little guy, leading to widening wealth inequality and more and more corporate power over prices. How can people not see this? Taxes and respecting gay people are not the reason you can't afford to live, it's what the companies want you to believe
Why don’t we just get rid of the fire service and law enforcement in the meanwhile? The fact that you’re paying taxes is because you owe it to the very system that enabled your income. The real thievery is the higher income figures deriving ways to not pay taxes and unfortunately most people out there are just too harebrained like yourself to see this.

@jaysoncea9376 Wow. You see no linear correlation between wages, social services, and how much a country owes? You should become less ignorant before speaking on these things.
I recently had a very successful year and received my biggest bonus ever. Over 50% was held back for taxes. What is the incentive to work very hard and succeed in Canada?
The other 50%. If you made enough to pay 50% tax on the top end. You can afford to pay into the system that supports everyone. The world is going through a financially hard time, this isn't exclusive to Canada, China and Japan are also in turmoil and US is on the cusp
@@BnMProductions11 Spoke like a true socialist. I work 60 hours a week and did 6 years of post-secondary education all on my dime with debt. I am not from a privileged background and don't live a " rich lifestyle" by any means, yet after all the consumption taxes I pay, you feel I should also give away more than 50% of my income to income taxes. This is the attitude that has led to the collapse of Canadian productivity not to mention why so many young professionals are leaving Canada. 25% of my son's engineering class left Canada within 2 years of graduating due to high taxation and an unaffordable cost of living. Canadians are waking up to the fact of how expensive a socialist government is. Handouts are never free....
@@sherylsauder5579 If you're making the $400,000 a year required for your real tax rate to be roughly 50%. Yes, you should. Also, if you went to school in Canada, it wasn't on your dime. It was heavily subsided through the government. Please, go show me one society that doesn't have taxes that functions properly, you can't. Some microcosms exist within taxable nation's because they use it as incentives, but that only works because they can leach off the rest of the country and steal their labour, if the entire country was like that, it would collapse. So I guess my point is, I doubt you're paying 50% tax because if you were, you wouldn't be struggling to get by and if you are making that much, yes, you should be paying it. If you don't want taxes, go move to an island, make all your own roads and infrastructure, setup your own healthcare and education etc etc etc.
@@sherylsauder5579 You do realize both Canada and the US have become fiscally more conservative in the exact time frame you list as Canada losing its productivity. Go look at fiscal policy in Canada and the US in the 50s and 60s compared to now, taxes on the wealthy were far higher and actually enforced, anti trust laws existed and were actually enforced to protect us from corporate consolidation, financial criminals were actually tried, there existed more progressive approaches to social issues like crime and drugs. For god sakes, Nixon, a Republican started the EPA. This goes to show how effective conservative dog whistling is, we have never once lived in a socialist society here in North America, both Canada and the US have always leaned far closer to capitalism and have been getting progressively closer, yet you're so convinced it's socialism somehow causing the issues you see before you. If it were true that taxes crushed productivity, countries in Europe would see sharo declines in business entrepreneurship and innovation and they just don't. What does cause a lack of productivity is desperation caused by ever widening wealth gaps and less and less competitive between businesses because of consolidation and lack of regulation, all right wing issues. Politics is a spectrum, the extremes of either side are bad, socialism or fascism. Each one needs its counterpart, the issue is we've been so conditioned in north America to bias one side were screaming at Bernie Sanders and calling him a commie (which he clearly isn't) yet being hesitant to call Donald Trump (a literal fascist) with huge threats to democracy by the same name.
@@sherylsauder5579 I'm interested to hear how you respond to that. As for your son's class leaving, that is an issue, when the country just next door has chosen to let half their population rot in favour of the top 10%. If you're in that top 10% from another country, the US will look very favourable and you won't know the struggle you would have had to go to to get to the spot you are if you had grown up poor in the US. Brain drain is not a problem I have a solution for right now and it is an issue, particularly with Canada because the alternative is so accessible. But there definitely is a solution that could be found, some of it would probably involve the US getting on a similar page. I'll challenge you to go drive through any major downtown area in the US, Philly, Pittsburgh, NY etc. Half of some of those cities are straight up slums, then drive through Toronto, it's far more reasonable. That is the benefit of social programs, it attempts to limit the highs and lift the lows. Some American cities are actually scary to drive through so don't tell me that system works so well
Just regret your parent's registering you. Don't ever regret being born in Canada . All the parent's that registered us all with the government have set us up for this death trap that is coming for ALL of us
I'm now 4 years retired, but when I worked as a self-employed contractor I normally took in around 100K a year and I was able to end up with two homes, a few toys, a lovely wife, and a wonderful Shepherd Dog….no debts, and over a million in other investments. We worked hard for decades, lived under our means and invested heavily…no fancy holidays or unnecessary luxuries. We did it, others can.
WOW the arrogant dork of a minister shucked off the question that was directed to him!!! What she is discussing is EXACTLY why I quit working and retired. I didn’t see ANY reason to work when it’s all said and done to be taxed at about 60%! Now I’m income sharing with my wife and taxed at 10% ….maybe less, and I’m quite OK with that!
Years ago i saw a documentary about seniors in japan, so expensive to live, so they ended up committing small crimes to get sent to prison, free food and a roof over their heads, plus others to socialize with. Canada will be doing the same things soon enough with most of us not being able to save money to live.
only difference is their prisons are like being in a college dorm, just highly strict due to culture which they're use to. I don't know the state of Canadian prisons, but I doubt its that nice.
It's about time we finally started hearing about taxes being an in issue with citizens. So many politicians talk about "what Canadian care about" and never seem to mention anything Canadians care about.
I love the idea of UBI in principle...imagine being able to cut all the fat like social assistance programs, EI, Workers comp programs etc.....but currently, if UBI were implemented, companies would simply say "hmmm, there's more money in circulation, so the market can handle some price increases!". Literally, we may as well save ourselves the trouble of implementing UBI and simply write a cheque to corporations...it will be faster.
I think all politicians are out of touch. I am a father in this country making $0/yr. you know why? Cause I am not going to go to work for $15/hr .. or $22/hr. Forget the $130,000 in her example. She is out of touch, the left is even more out of touch. It’s every damn man for himself in this country that’s all it is to it. I can’t depend on none of you but I wouldn’t turn my back on someone who I protect, .. gratitude. Respect, the people of this country forgot the veterans that fought and died for their freedoms. It’s sick.
Irrational!. First, having children with such a low income. Children are expensive, right. Second, then refusing to work for #22/hr when you have to provide for kids. Responsible!
1 in 5 people works for the government ... 25% of the country ... compare that to the US, which is much larger in every single way that has 14%. No wonder taxes are so high. Lets let in another 500,000 Indian immigrants with no place to live and no jobs anywhere though.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. Obviously, your special interests outweigh my needs and, apparently I need to pay for it all.
This is a capitalist country... Never had Canada ever even been close to a socialist country. You really couldn't even consider it a democratic socialist democracy. Have taxes bothered you any of the last 60 years they've been roughly the same or higher? No, probably not. Taxes aren't the reason you're feeling squeezed in your wallet. Ever increasing corporate stranglehold on prices is, why do people immediately turn to the government when it's very clearly not the government setting prices. These companies are making record setting profits Y/Y and then crying poor and blaming taxes and you eat it up
@@AbolishCommunism Please, enlighten me. For once can a conservative actually provide a well thought out response instead of just an anecdote or an insult. Please explain to me how taxes are our issue, when they've been slowly pulled back the last 40 years. If you think Canada is a socialist country, you're just flat out wrong.
This isn't a capitalist Country. We have social benefits. We are half and half. You want discuss tax? Tax is for road maintenance, teachers, police, firemen. taxes are to maintain a Country and should be within reason. Right now our tax dollars are giving billions to Ukraine, we give China 9 million dollars a year. We pay billions in interest, and we pay billions to house illegal immigrants. And now we are paying carbon tax, to save the world? Paying a tax doesn't save the world, but it lines thiae archons and royal family pockets. Don't even start on Ethiopia. Why are they getting billions of dollars? capitalist is a free society, one in which the government doesn't control and regulate everything. WHAT CAN YOU DO WITHOUT GOVERNMENT PERMISSION? You can't drive, you can't buy a house, you can't own property, you can't own a dog, you can't leave the Country, you can't put in a pool, not even a hot tub without government permission........should I go on? The great Reset by Klaus Schwab (he controls our future, he runs the WEF) talks about how the government will continue to place more restrictions and regulations on the public and businesses. FYI I am a corporation owner, THE GOVERNMENT SETS OUR FEES. Let me explain how things work, as clearly you don't know. I bring in clothes. I import them. In America, I can import, up to a certain amount and not pay duty, taxes, brokerage fees, border fees etc. In Canada? WE CAN'T! My 2.00 tank tops, cost 14.00 once they hit the border...WHO CREATES THOSE FEES? businesses? OR GOVERNMENT? NOW YOU UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR COSTS ARE SO HIGH AND HOW THE GOVERNMENT CONTROLS COSTS!!! You clearly only had public education, (no it's not good. Does Trudeaus children go to public school? Does Andrew Sheers kids go to public school? Did Joe Bidens children go to public school?) which creates slaves. They don't teach you how things work, because then you would rise against them. They want you to be controlled BY THEM! Financial literacy and economics are your friend and you don't have those skills yet, because they don't teach them in public school. If you think social assistance, social healthcare, social programs, are capitalist...You have no idea what socialism, what capitalism and what communism is. Do some research instead of listening to the government (and don't use google, buy some books). Those who control the data control the answers!!!! I'll leave you with a food for thought. What is the etymology of government? govern - control.... ment - mind! The Phoenicians are geniuses and they use your words against you, and you are publicly educated so you don't understand. BUT THEY DO!
meanwhile, refugees with 6 kids are housed, fed, transportation and education all paid for by our tax dollars, while they get their wives to go beg on the streets for spending money for luxuries. let that sink in.
The answer for Canadians is to stop working for the government and start working for each other. Providing your skills to members of your community for cash in hand will not only allow you to undercut all your local competition, but also mean people in your community aren't overpaying for services they need because of government overreach. You'll have fewer hours, probably take home about the same at the end of the day, and there's no need for any of that pesky bookkeeping that deters most people from starting their own businesses. Say no to wage slavery.
What are we getting for that 46%? Poor healthcare, policing, justice system, infrastructure and an overly bloated government. Mental Health and addictions support is pretty non-existent. I hate what this country has become.
You are not paying 46% in federal taxes. You are not paying 46% in federal taxes. And you are not paying 46% federal taxes. Do you know how to do math? I make about 100k, and I pay 14k in federal income taxes. Even if you add up the 5% gst, I’m not paying 46% in federal taxes.
@@joeisawesome540 You have no idea what you're even talking about do you? We're talking about income tax. I make just over $300k/yr. If you make $300,000 a year living in the region of Ontario, Canada, you will be taxed $127,985. That means that your net pay will be $172,015 per year, or $14,335 per month. Your average tax rate is 42.7% and your marginal tax rate is 53.5%.
It costs to go to work, gas clothes food at work sometimes babysitting or day care etc if the job is too far min wage not enough hours seasonal etc it is not worth it
I am anishinabe, was stolen as a child.Worked for 40 years then covid hit, since then I have sitting at home.I worked in film, member of DGC union.I have decided to stop working and paying taxes. Now Kanada can support me as a crown ward and oh ya I want my tax money back that I paid.
Exact why reason Canada grows extremely slow compared to other countries. The Greedy government on top of mismangement of Canada tax dollars.. reform the structure and get rid of waste. Most important get rid of Trudeau and his radical policies. Only then will Canada prosper.
