No Jumping in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?! Aerial Combat?

"Command game" is an interesting way to describe this style of gameplay. Where RPG tends to be more of a general vibe.

Adding a jump button would allow for aerial combat as opposed to what they did with having character automatically jumping to hit enemies in part 1

Just tried the demo to be surprised we still can't jump... Even KH1 allowed you to jump... ffs

Using x action button on the environment remember jumping rope or a jump attack command

The movement mechanics feel a bit more dynamic when jumping is possible. But is it needed? Hm..... no :D

If one person jumps, than the rest of the 8 characters would need to jump that follow you.

​@96andr no! If you turn the camera around and look behide while running forward u can clearly see the rest of the team with you in the junon demo. I don't know why the uploader of this video even liked your comment. Just because you only see three at a time while running forward doesn't mean the other two are not there. In the demo we have 5, but we have seen pictures with the flying birds mid air with 7 people all at once. So just picture what it would look like with vincent and cid added to the party.

​@@96andrand I'm sure the game has option to make the camera even further out, so maybe if you put the settings to not be so close on your main character you can see the rest of the party. Let's talk about gran blue fantasy relink demo that dropped. You have like 7 characters following you I think. You jump from ledge to ledge and the rest of the party jumps on top of you, some of them turn around looking back where they just jumped from, some walk in circles around etc. It looks stupid and over crowded with all those people on the same ledge. Try it, download the demo, jump on the first tiny bridge you see and after the jump, stop. Don't move and watch the other characters follow you, jump on top of you and watch how they act after the jump and look how stupid it looks. Much love.

I generally heart all comments as long as they're not being rude or mean to me personally, whether I agree or not. I do it to help with the algorithm. Does it actually help?... No idea. But it certainly won't hurt. I also genuinely appreciate the fact that people even comment at all, so that's another reason.

Ff16 had jumping and to be fair....i used it literally only when in combat for combos. That being said, combat is different then in ff7 rebirth. Ff 16 would work the same without jump if they implemented auto jump for flying enemy like in ff7. Long story short,game doesn't need jump at all

Not a roast, but the demo dropped and there’s a “traversal” button (circle) that lets you hop and climb over obstacles, or jump from ledges, and if you sprint it happens automatically. So yes, we’ll be jumping all over the place

Okay, so it's basically what I thought except if you're not sprinting you have to manually press the button on the controller to perform the "traversal" as you say it's called.

I'm not sure what you mean. I was just acknowledging the update he provided on how the traversal works. If it sounded like I was getting super defensive I wasn't.

What you said is akin to how people phrase things in media without legal ramifications, aka "apparent". "As you say it's called" is just weird phrasing to op. Idk if its just because typing, but thats the exact kind of connotation I look for to know the people i should avoid ngl. No hate or anything, just really rubbed me wrong to read that. Hope you recognize what I was getting at. More just something i think you should consider whether thoughtless or not. You a ff youtuber not msn. Bro said its a traversal button, so lets let him have it. When game releases, may not be. sry for the long winded reply but wanted to express that in full.

People, please, read the fucking tutorial..... pressing square after DODGE you can perform long ranged attacks, if you hold square you can perform aerial combat, you only need read the tutorial, the firste one when cloud starts his first combat.

I'm assuming you're referring to the rebirth demo. I haven't played it, but that sounds about on par with the kind of improvement I was expecting. It seems somewhat restrictive and that you still can't freely jump around wherever. The long ranged attack after dodging sounds like more of a way to continue a combo and keep the combat more fluid than anything.

See that was my problem I came into the game with the Kingdom Hearts/FF16 Mindset. I enjoy it much more now.

The amount of wrong you are is insane. Jumping automatically is not good. The reason jump buttons are good is that they give you control over the game. You pick a absolute garbage comparison point for jumping. Why not look at tales arise or FFXV which both implement jumping AND give u the ability to play as other party members. For FFVIIR the key for jumping would be really easy. Just add it in the game for traversal, and dont make it go to high, then just lock your commands while you jump. With minimal work you feel WAY more in control of the game.

I'm not going to say much about Final Fantasy XV, because that game's design is terrible across the board in so many ways that I could do a whole video on that by itself, which at some point I will. Tales of Arise, the jumping is so low that it actually doesn't give you as many traversal options. There are Ledges and cliffs that are much higher in FFVII Rebirth that you would never be able to jump over in Tales of Arise. So then you might say, well why not make jumping higher? In fact, it's easier to program jumping in a game than it is to add all of these traversal options. The problem is long-term it adds unnecessary amounts of QA testing and unpredictable bugs during development especially in a game that's not as linear as Tales of Arise. The more restricted they make the game, the lower the probability of unpredictable issues occurring during development causing them to redesign portions of the world to compensate for these potential variables delaying development milestones and pipelines. It ensures smoother development. For a game that isn't supposed to be hyper-focused on "freedom" as this isn't a "true" open world game and also isn't trying to incorporate platforming elements, it's not really "worth" the effort as the player doesn't get enough benefits from it. And in terms of combat, restricting the command menu while jumping would kind of diminish the purpose of the combat system entirely. As I mentioned in the video, it's more of a "command" game than action game. Tales of Arise is still focusing a bit more on comboing arts and moves similar to a fighting game so that's the direction they chose to go in and doesn't incentive you to "change" party members during combat, even though you can. Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth "wants" you to do that because that's what gives it the feeling of a "command" game like the original Final Fantasy VII.

@@FaustFantasy FIrst off MAKE your ffxv video, i bet its gonna be u complaining about how "this game does not need to be action combat" or whatever, and probably ignoring some useful parts of the royal edition. That game was intensely fun. Second off, you are missing the point. Look at say lies of p, or dark souls 3, or even helldivers. In the first 2 jumping is very little use in both traversal and combat yet just having it makes you feel less *chained* to the ground. The fact is most action combat games have a jump these days because it makes you *feel* like you can do whatever. Even though you actually cant. In Helldivers 2 , jumping is more of a ... dive but even that is enough to make the illusion of free movement. Thats all it is an illusion. One that darastically improves gameplay just from an immersion standpoint. Now is it the biggest deal? no, unless you are me. I personally dont play games without jumping but that is a SUPER specific to me thing that even I think is dumb. Jumping is not really super important to the game but adding it would be useful in many ways. BTW if you add low jumps and just map that to traversal options if available, else do a small hop, you suddenly have a working "jump" button that does not cause excess issues.

I will make the Final Fantasy XV video as part of my Re:Discover Final Fantasy series videos, which at the rate I'm going is going to take quite a while before I get to Final Fantasy XV where I intend to play the Royal Edition as I only played the base game on PS4 when it first came out. My really short takeaway is that the game didn't know what it wanted to be. It was pretty bad at being an action game and also pretty bad at being a command game. I'm aware that they made the other characters playable so maybe my opinion will change after playing the Royal Edition... but I'm not optimistic about it for other reasons I'm not getting into right now. So the three games you mentioned I haven't played myself, but I'm pretty sure both Lies of P and Dark Souls 3 are fairly linear in nature so just like Tales of Arise it's pretty simple to just add a Jump Button it's not going to create as many unexpected bugs during development as something like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. And Helldivers is a completely different Genre of game from all of the games that you mentioned so I'm not sure why you would mention that game. And sure, you could add "low jumps" in the game and then when the option is presented offer the ability for traversal (Such as climbing a ledge), but then what purpose does a "small hop" serve? See, the difference between games like Lies of P and and Dark Souls 3 is that they don't have party members. So it's not really going to add much to the budget to add a couple of extra animations to one character, but in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth not only do they have to create a low hop animation for Cloud, but for all of the other party members which there are 7, plus Zack and Sephiroth as they're playable so that's 9 extra animations plus some fairly simple scripting work. That's a waste of development resources for basically no real purpose other than some arbitrary immersion factor. If you don't like games that don't let you jump, that's fine. Given that knowledge, this game probably wasn't going to be a game you would like from the beginning then.

​@@FaustFantasy Again, this is like one of those cilantro tastes like soap things. There are a LOT of people out there who like me feel that jumping adds freedom, even if the jump is pointless. The fact that you have it creates the ILLUSION of freedom. Now most of these people will still play games without jumping, im just a weirdo who wont but thats just me being dumb. So you did not play the royal edition... that...explains a few things. Here is a little tip, make sure you upgrade your characters all the way because when you do, YOU CAN PLAY AS THEM. So you can play as prompto or play as Ignis or play as Gladiolus. Also, please do the dlc, I suggest you do them where they pop up in the story but you can also play them after but without the DLC the game makes like no sense so HIGHLY recommend doing them. IMO FFXV is purely an open world action game that does its job decently well but like most FF games, not balanced but cannot wait to debate u in the video :)

Id say its like if you remove the triple jump from mario sure its not needed but the point is thats the whole gameplay of mario you just jump and use that as a tool to read the game design yh not all games need that tbh but id love to see something fresh out of final fantasy And the combat isnt enough to get people hooked we cd see it since ff 12 they are stucked which is ok but tbh I dont even know what they wd make out of that if they add jump , platformer gameplay but the game desperatebly need something like that to refresh the whole gameplay loop but its top early they have hard time finishing the game how it is now add another Layer and the game is never coming out 😂😂😂😂
