New York is rolling out a new law requiring employers to list salary ranges on job postings. Similar laws in places like Colorado aim to even the playing field for applicants. But not everyone is embracing the changes. Illustration: Adele Morgan

@@all2jesus That's certainly not true for the company that I work at. We've learned that they and a bunch of their competitors share compensation information through an intermediary so that they can benchmark pay against each other. I am curious how this will work in practice. In Austria there is a similar law, which accomplished very little. Now (almost) all job postings contain a generic sentence: "Will pay at least X €, total compensation can be higher given qualifications and employee profile." Where most of the time, X is the lowest wage employers are legally allowed to pay. (Austria has no real federal minimal wage but a complicated system of forced collective bargaining and thus the "minimum compensation" differs from sector to sector.)

Several law enforcements, the AG of CA., and the ACLU are a few organizations that have been informed. Wht doesn't my birth certificate have the word: Adopted?
