Mercedes back in the day used to do a 7.3 V12 engine that went in a few different models. Then they had the 6.2 V8. This is what made Mercedes stand out from the other manufacturers in a good way. This was part of the Mercedes dna and heritage. Big engines dont have to work as hard and are not as highly strung as smaller engines. This gave Mercedes their own character and charm. Nice smooth gentle acceleration and you would still be moving at pace, no need to floor it, let the engine stretch its legs instead of ringing its neck for every ounce of power 100% of the time. If you want economy there are plenty of other manufacturers (with their souless boring dull cars) to go for.
I mean the ioniq 5 n ev uses pumped in audio (you can turn it off) and also has n e shift thing that simulates 8 speed dct I think,it gives that feel of a gas car just in an ev
Wrong As usual Americans don’t realise there is a World outside their bubble. The new C63 has 680bhp out the box They might bring back the V8 for the North American Market. But unlikely in the ROW as Emissions Requirements are more relevant than making a car for idiots to straight pipe. Only in American do people care about showing off and making noise over performance
@@chrism869 95% of gas powered cars feel like crap because they aren’t exciting high powered cars. So electric cars are nicer than those, but no electric car can never simulate the vibration and sound of a real car
We should punish the car manufacturers for downsizing to 4 cylinders or full EVs by boycotting their performance cars cuz as long as we're not affecting their numbers they'll continue doing stupid shit like that
I have a 4cyl car that I love to bits. It drives great, looks great and is just a very nice car.......but, it's cold start doesn't get my nipples hard like my V8 does. It's like comparing a light shower to Thunder & Lightning V8 4 Life🤘🏾
@liberte1700 for real. Plenty of people own non v8 amg. They are all fast. Just like bmw m series, none of them are bad or slow. Good point. People don't have amg and are the experts. I at least own one.
AMG went out of business when they dumped the V8. Maybe no one told them, so it's up to me. Hey, AMG. You're closed. You had a great run, but it ended with the last V8 you made. If Mercedes wants to offer AMG appearance packages, fine. But AMG? You're closed. RIP.
@@martinsvensson6884 Yea and they also made an AMG version of Mitsubishi. The facts are that AMG built it’s reputation on these great sounding V8’s and 12’s. If you ever decide to own an M156 for an example, så kommer du att förstå😉
@@jgripen969 Bland yngre generationer kanske men 190/C-klassens AMG modeller var ju i6 från början. Sen hade du AMG varianter av 300E w124 också i form av E36 AMG. Samma med 123:an innan. De var ju dock mkt diskretare bilar. Inte samma show som idag.
I can see how a big drop from a V8 to a 4 cylinder made it difficult for some to see the value in an AMG product. Maybe a V6 would have been fine. Some supercars these days have great sounding V6’s.
100% agree!! There are certain vehicles that should always be offered with V8s or 10s, 12s. This should be the reason why EVs even exist is to allow us to still have a vehicle that we want while the people who don’t care drive pods… Keep up the incredible work Mike!!
Ppl need to understand that dodge is only dying because of stellantis. Previous dodge ceo stepped down because he knows the direction of dodge and doesn’t want to be apart of it anymore
No body would complain if the did what Lamborghini did which was to keep the V 8 / V12 with the electric motors. Or a model with the twin turbo V6 and electrification. One last thing nothing beats the AMG from the 2000 to 2010 that has the roof vents and kidney Gil’s with the dual exhaust double tip. That was the error that the E63 AMg 4 door sedan was beating the Ferrari in races. Those cars were dope !
The title of this video made me jump with joy! The AMG is a performance machine for car people, and none of us want fake sounds or electric motors to drive us! I can't wait for Dodge to eat crow too, and switch back to the V8! Now, I'm just worried about Nissan messing up the formula for GTR!
I had a CLE coupe four cylinder 2024 on the test, it has a good engine but no sound, the front seats are the same size as in the C coupe, the rear side windows don't go down, I was very disappointed, they discontinued the C coupe and E coupe and made it again C coupe for double the price, the center console is much too high and the center screen is too big, so it will be too narrow for you Mike because you are a tall person, it is true that the rear seats have a little more space than in the C coupe, the trunk is a little bigger than the C coupe. I own a C coupe 2018 but I won't trade because the rear windows don't go down. Greetings from Europe
Mercedes could have easily just asked a few people in a focus group, would they want a new C-Class AMG with a hybrid 4 cylinder powertrain versus the classic v8. That would have been a 5-minute long conversation and save them the millions of dollars they'll lose on these stupid 4-cylinder AMGs.
You're absolutly right. I was at my local Mercedes looking to trade in my current 392 Charger for a CPO S450 or S560 sedan and they saw me checking out the beautiful blue C63 AMG when they gave me a weird look omce I read "Turbo 4" on the window sticker. They then asked if I was interested in that car I told them no. Ill never pay that price for a 4 cyclender car no matter how powerful or fast they are. They told them why I was there.
Lots of these brands get to make V8s based on how many other eco or Ev style cars they make to average out the fuel consumption. Ford has this dodge didn’t.
Sports Car sound especially on the AMG is 99.99% 👌🏼 the decidong factor. Speed is okay but it's not the finaly deciding factor. All cars are fast nowadays - we just need a car with a soul & character V8 & i6 still does it for me #PetrolHeadTalk
Amg is 4 times more expensive than a normal Mercedes C class, so if I were to buy one, I expect something special. A 4 cilinder I can also get in a mainstream car. So yes a V8. Or if they really need to downsize then V6 as a very minimum.
@@Don-pk2uy its a lot slower than the m3. It weighs 4600 pounds because of that stupid hybrid system and because of that after 80 mph it accelerates like it has 400 hp.
@@Don-pk2uy The M3 is losing by a very slim margin. The new M3(LCI) now produces 530 horsepower, 30 more than before, making it definitely faster than the new C63. Regardless, it’s quite humiliating for a car with "670 horsepower" to barely outperform one with just 500 horsepower. You should really reconsider making such an ill-informed statement.
I'm with you Mike, they need to use you're cars silhouette as a template for design. Also what they're doing is pushing their agenda & no one is really biting on EVs & 4 cyl hybrids. But as us older enthusiasts go by the wayside they'll eventually bring them in. These kids grew up on video games, they'll simulate the whole driving experience complete w/ sound & that will be that...but not today!
Unfortunately, if true, it’s likely going to be priced where an E63 coupe would have been priced and nowhere near where the C63 coupe was priced. I just got the new LCI M4 and that’s already priced well above where my W205 C63…a V8 CLE63 is going to be approaching 150k (CAD, guessing 120-130ish USD) I’m thinking wayyyy outside the range that your typical C63 customer would likely stretch their budget to, including me :(
I doubt Mercedes decided to drop the 4 cylinder for the CLE Coupe. It was their plan all along to produce this with a V8. This has been in development for way to long to change plans a few months before launch. Maybe the faclifted C63 or the next gen are getting a V8, maybe with a hybrid combination, but this generation seems to be done with the 4 cylinder, unless they add some kind of special edition.
The M3/M4 is ugly but they're selling. MB could make the C63 as ugly as they want , but just put a V8 and make it sound like what we're used to it sounding like
It would be hilarious and disappointing when Mercedes releases the v8 variant of the CLE AMG and it still sounds modestly muffled just because world governments force them to.
Totally agree with you Mike I would defo have a V8 over a 4 cylinder and would prefere to take a power cut to get the V8 because it sounds sp much better and also why is amg not going thos V8 in bi turbo as surely the power can come from them, so hope the CLE63 amg come out with the V8 power plant, just bring the V12 back for 1 more showing, great video Mike I love you passion top man peace brother 🙏 👍 👌
I think a way to explain this would be when you compare mechanical watches. Rolex could make a super official, beautiful, exquisite looking watch face for the Apple watch. It looks like a Rolex, keeps way more accurate time, you don't have to keep winding the damn thing up, they could even charge £10,000's for the privilege just so the poor people can't end up with one, it can do absolutely everything a mechanical one could do and also remind you when its time to go to bed or check your heart rate. But the fact is, people don't want that. People who buy those watches will happily spend £20,000+++ on one knowing all about its flaws, and that a pack of 3 quartz watches from Ali Express would probably keep accurate time for longer. They buy them precisely because of the fact it is mechanical, with 100 years of heritage and the craft which goes into it. Mercedes plopping a slightly different variant of the same l4 2.0 turbo lump that goes in basically every single car they sell is not, nor will ever be a V8. Mercedes clearly need to find better focus groups and comities because the part they missed is the drama and theatre which comes with having an engine like that in a car, and the clientele who would buy one new really could not give a shit about efficiency and cost savings to fund their failing EV R&D endeavours.
Sorry buddy. It will be all electric as far as new cars go by 2035. Super cars and hyper cars will be hybrid for as long as they can. It is what it is!
I feel bad for dodge, their shift to EVs was inevitable. Unlike Ford Chevy and Mercedes, dodge really don’t have many “economy cars” that they put out, at least basically none in comparison to Ford, so when the big push for EVs was on the horizon I knew dodge were fucked when their whole BRAND has basically been American muscle and massive displacement engines. I imagine these companies have a quota they have to meet (in regards to “compliant” cars they have to produce to pass emissions and stuff) to not get huge fines and dodge with the cars dodge make, they were bound to get fucked especially since they’re owned by European company stellantis. Hope they do reverse their decision tbh
