If the pitcher didn't know what the umpire meant, he shouldn't use the signal of nodding the head, which the umpire translates as,"I understand you ump."

for anyone wondering, Keeps just sells generic finasteride and minoxidil at a ~2x markup over what you can buy anywhere else online or in a pharmacy. there's really no reason to buy their stuff even with the offer. its just a bunch of marketing for a product that already exists for half the price.

I'd probably disagree only slightly ... it's the players' responsibility to know what the rules are, not necessarily the coaching staff's job to teach it. For tens of millions of dollars per year, I think the pitchers can be bothered to actually pay attention to the rules themselves. It's not asking that much.

This had to do with the pitcher (Cobb, I think) stepping off and then the catcher (Bart, I think) calling time for a mound visit. The home-plate umpire negated the step-off, but the 1B umpire did not, so there were two disengagement counts going on among the umpire crew.

Thanks for making these clips. Your narration is very entertaining. It's cool that you use lip reading to help make really interesting viewing, if one likes baseball. I never played it as a kid much, but I ended up being a crack juggler. I love magic, my first hobby as a kid. I like close-up sleight of hand. So, between juggling and magic, I see some similarities with baseball. There is deception, psyche-outs, and stealing. There is plenty of sleight of hand, particularly from the pitcher. The pitcher's moves are akin to a dance step. There is great athleticism to admire as well. And, there is the celebration when winning, maybe like finally being able to juggle six balls. It feels good when one finally nails X move in juggling, like hitting a grand slam. The competition with juggling is with one's self and gravity. I don't mind saying, gravity sucks.

Love seeing more Jomboy in my feed ♥, but I still don't know if the ump actually gave the correct signal and just nobody knows that's the signal because it's so new and rarely used (disengage being generally obvious needing no signal), or if the ump was just trying to explain why he called the disengagement and forgot / gave the official signal later.
@KDill29
@KDill29 Год назад
I dont think it's an actual signal. I think the ump was just using his hands, and explaining. "Hey you rock back and forth but your foot comes up slightly," badadadada with the hands, "it counts as a disengagement..." Idk, I like the pitch clock, kind of. But not really a fan of only having 3 "engagements" to a baserunner. Do I hate it when the pitcher pays more attention to the runner, and sometimes just needs to worry about the batter...yes but like. Idk only three to the whole time that baserunner is on...what if you get a single, and said runner is now at 2nd, and the new batter on is at 1st...what's the rule then?
@lmbk1
@lmbk1 Год назад
@@KDill29 The disengagements are per plate appearance, with the count also resetting if a runner advances during the plate appearance, rather than being for the entire time the baserunner is on. So I think Jomboy was wrong here, and the "0" signal was that the disengagements had reset to 0, not that he had 0 disengagements left.

Bieber understood the gesture as a reference as disengagement. The issue was he didn't realize it had been counted as a pick off move because that's not what that signal means. So after the confusion, he simply confirmed he had no more attempts left and carried on. He wasn't standing there whining about it. This really isn't anyone's fault. As a casual baseball fan who only watches literally one game a season, but enjoys jomboy, its crazy how much the rules have changed since I watched more seriously when I was a child. No more pitchers bat, man on 2nd automatically in extra innings, some catchers call pitches electronically on their knee, pitch clocks, limited amount of pick off attempts. Im sure I'm missing other changes too. It's a a whole new game. What other sport are they constantly changing the rules so much?
@fallendeus5641
@fallendeus5641 10 месяцев назад
Other sports figured out good official rules early on so they didn't need to change them, baseball on the other hand had makeshift rules that were meant for purely casual play before being made into a professional sport. Personally I think that pitchers not batting is stupid, the idea of a designated hitter is just so damn dumb (same thing with pinch runners) because teams don't have to be well rounded. You just get guys that are good at the single thing they do and that's it. The ghost runner rule in extra innings is fine, offense in Baseball has always been at a disadvantage and games need to not be going well over 3 hours. Pitch clocks are something that should have been a thing forever. Pitchers don't need all the fucking time in the world to throw their pitch. Like I said before, defense already has the advantage inherently... they don't ALSO need the pitcher to sit there waiting while the batter is trying to stay ready for a pitch for a minute because they can throw their pitch at any moment. Pick off attempt limits are the same thing, it's wasting time and another advantage defense didn't need.
@US2A

I don't really like that rule if I'm being honest. Not big into Baseball, besides the breakdowns, but I feel it takes away from actual base steals. It's up to the managers to know (and to make sure their players know) the new rules.

If bro didn't known what the signal meant, why'd he nod? 100% on the pitcher.

I'm not a huge fan of the pitch clock but I am glad to see MLB finally putting a stop these ridiculous OCD pitcher windups and forcing pitchers to just pitch

"Coach I straight up heard him say 'You do that again and Ima slap your balls like this.' So yeah...I was a bit taken aback and very much nonplussed thereafter. For all I know there exists a rules subsection that now allows for that."

You can do that with your feet if you come to a deliberate stop before you go into your pitching motion.

I think you got this one wrong mr jomboy, the umpire made that motion to let the pitcher know that the catcher had just technically used one of his disengagements, or at least that's what I remember from watching the game live.

@@strange-universe - If it's an official signal, then the team needs to coach better. If it's an unofficial signal, then MLB needs to make an official one, and the pitcher/catcher should have asked what the ump meant.

so did we pitch clock to increase offense? seems all the leagues have been doing it. Def something that will mess with pitchers. At this point in the past few seasons, we had at least a couple no hitters at this point in the year.

So if a runner successfully makes it back to base 3 times, the pitcher is no longer allowed to try and throw him out? Does that mean a runner can just get a free steal?

He hadn't come set yet, he can do what he wants. You're allowed to rock like that as long as you come set. Umps have understood what it means to come set for a literal century
