No One Loves The F-4C Anymore (War Thunder) 

I knew vulcan damage falling off recently wasn't all in my head.

Spit, the missile going for the plane and not the chaff is correct. The sparrow uses a CW seeker, not pulse like the AIM-9C or R-3R. This means it "sees" the doppler effect (I.E. speed difference) in the radar waves coming back at it and guides independently of the radar. In this case the A-5C was still flying towards you, and was still in the radar beam so the missile still went for it. The CW vs Pulse seeker is part of the reason the 530F on the Mirage 2K is so bad, it's pulse, so even if the MTI keeps the radar locked on the plane, the missile goes straight for the chaff since it can't differentiate speeds like a CW seeker does.

I remember this being the most OP Aircraft of the game when Mighty Mouse Rockets could kill bases in seconds… and whole Teams of F4C‘s rushed all the bases and killed the airfield right after takeoff every game 😂

I used to love the f100 it was real nice when you would fight the mig 19s and hunters, chinese mig 17 and mig 17as. But now its a nightmare to even look at the plane. battle rating changes are so silly with these modern vehicles.

There was a “fix” 1 or 2 months ago where mass values for a lot of bullets got changed. The Vulcan and AN-M3 were amongst some of the guns that got nerfed quite big time

I talismanned this a long time ago and ground out the entire F5E & F14 lines, getting the ‘natural’ ace qualifications in the process. But since A5C and all aspects, I’ve never been able to play it properly anymore which sucks because it’s a great plane

Any cannons which use the US 20mm AN/M3 shells in game are bugged. The HE shells only produce about 2 pieces of fragmentation (compared to dozens on every other 20mm HE shell). It's been bugged for quite a while but won't get fixed coz there's a bug report mod that refuses to forward any of the bug reports to the devs, saying that the bug reports require historical documents to prove that the HE shells actually produced shrapnel IRL...

I like this plane and I play it quite often, specially when I'm bored from everything else. The secret to having a good game with it is taking only 2 sparrows,4 aim 9's, no gun, maximum fuel, side climbing to 6-7km altitude then level flying, picking off targets of opportunity and staying above mach 1.1 at all times.

I love all the f4 variants..they hold a ton of missiles and bombs good for grinding

I miss the old says when everyone just dogdighted with each other, now air RB is idiot-proof missile spamland.

I have somewhere around 400 battles in the F-4C . In the current matchmaker it is pretty bad . It used to be pretty balances an enjoyable. Let's hope it will be like that again sometime in the future.

It was super weird when the plane looks like it was destroyed in the first heading, thinking it's just a glitch or a new effect when you get hit, but it's sparks.

recently for some reason if your plane has a single piece of shrapnel pass through you even if the model is literally still blue it uses the full damaged model

I'm SO glad I watched till the end. I'm a video game dev and the entire part of the game I've been spearheading, working nights and weekends on, has been scrapped.

I personally have it spaded and I can do 0 kill game like I can do 4 kill one. It's no between, I also find that just passing in the fur ball without turning as good result. That's why I find the f4c not super good but not super bad

Got over 2000 kills with it with about 1000 before the Su25 cancer. It’s still quite good if not one of the best 10.0s due to the sheer amount of mussels it can carry. I fly with max fuel (allows for good loiter time with enough ammo to last you all that time without needing to go back to base and waste time) and full missles and fly towards the side at the beginning getting up to 5-6km. The aim7s are great for getting early match kills on climbers or making the team fly low to avoid them. Then I keep flying till I see the su25/a10 players as I know they’re usually on the back foot and come from above/behind them. R60/aim-9L/magics will still be the bane of your existence but If you can avoid being in their range to begin with then it is manageable

I do! I play it all the time … great bomb load and decent radar missiles at rank… with low repair cost

I grinded the F-14 especially with this plane in two week without any premium stuff.

i found that not playing the game was the best way to play the f4c this also works for all vehicles in the game

i like it. its better flying this than something that can see the tomcat

I *love* the F-4C. I only stopped playing it cuz I got the F-14, and because I was constantly getting killed by pesky Su-25’s and A-5C (10.7 pls). Its overall an incredible plane, and the only issue it has is the lack of flares.

Love using this jet for base bombing tasks

🧐 Ive been grinding the British tree the past week, specifically I’ve been flying the Jaguar GR.1A and I’ve seen tons of F-4Cs. I haven’t flown the F-4C in Air RB in a long time but my US Ground RB 10.0 line up includes the F-4C as it really shines as a fast CAS option.

Definitely agree with the Vulcan cannon issue, I've been spading the F-104A recently and it just doesn't kill things at all

Im so glad I bought the F-5C, my first supersonic was the F-104A and I dont think I could've grinded with the F-4C. weak missiles and no countermeasures is hell but at least the F-4C can turn a little, which is unfortunately not enough to dodge R-60s

I've been really enjoying this plane in GRB and I just unlocked the sparrows. I wish I was better in ARB but that's not really my game mode

As nice as it would be to give it the 9G, the issue is thst the 9G is a navy missile while the F-4C is an army plane. Aside from a few missiles like the 9B and the 9L, both air arms tended to keep to themselves, so unfortunately, it wouldn’t be as simple as giving it something it never used, at least if I’m keeping things realistic. That being said, perhaps giving it the 7E would help a little but really, if they’d just give it flares, it should be good enough to be the missile bus it was meant to be.

I remember grinding for the F-4 and was super happy to just have the F-4C.

My radar will rarely lock in both modes and when they do, the missile will not track and by that time they are already too close

I played the F-4C the other day going full performance loadout with 2 sparrows and 4 sidewinders and no gun, mach 1.4 in standard map is fun. I have the missile target drone skin for it which is fitting. If there was a event or battle pass F-4C with countermeasures (just call it F-4D) I would 100% grind it out. Also make that altitude tutorial a tiktok for new players cause seeing the P-47 at 3.7 is just depressing.

Great plane just need to play it a specific way, climb to 5km get 1-2 radar misile kills get behind the a10s and su25’s kill them and get 3-4 kills per game worked nearly every time

Every time I try radar missiles, the enemy either hugs the ground or their radar works and mine doesn't and they nail me first.

My favorite playstyle in the F-4C, back when I used to rock it, was taking two gunpods, one on each wing. No missiles. Can't say why, but it just felt right; ended up pulling at LEAST three kills a game. Granted, if they actually nerfed the vulcan, can't say it would work as effectively as it used to. protip: uninstall the New 20mm Cannons mod if you're gonna use more than one vulcan :)))

F4c is a great base bomber grinder take 750s on outer pylons 1000s on inner and missiles and a gun pod you can kill two bases and have 8 missiles and a gun after

Imagine. Being at 10.0 with no flares, for the most part shit missiles, and then they nerf the only viable thing, the Vulcan

It and all the other F-4s (German early one as well) need countermeasures, they had countermeasures, so did the F-100.

With all the rank 7 premiums coming, I don't think anyone will again

honestly the milan is a fantastic jet, its just too bad it cant carry more ammo, but its a great nose fighter

I use my Aim-9E’s to lock on all aspect missiles on head-ons, I got sick of dying to Su-25s that I used this technique and now I can bomb bases without dying every time I see them.

i found that stayng low and coming from the side is the best way , going hihg without flares is just suicide , but evreyone has his way of making it work i guess :D

i tried to play tech tree 9.3 mig and went up against a-10 and yea that was it for dusting off old jets

Try the armored target belts they have more incendiary than the air belts do wayyy more fires started since I have switched

I love the F-4C even though I can never get radar lock and I am a missile magnet it's a magnificent plane super fun

The F-4C in AB at 10.3 is just pure horror to fly.

a10 and su25 can go to top tier lol, nothing would change for them, except they would no longer ruin literally all of mid tier jets that dont have flares.

not having flares is just a death sentence at 10.0, give this plane flares gajin.

It's kinda funny to me when I get to slap A-10/Su-25 players with the Aim-7D's (they buffed the AN/APQ-100 drastically down low) and even funnier when I get to slap players who went to the stars with them. 15G's doesn't seem like allot to dodge until you're at 10,000m

Actually there is a little trick that using rockets as flares. I somehow managed to dodgy magics with them.

The a10 is a great dog fighter. It forces every enemy to either slow down and fight you where you are powerful or risk getting a missile up the ass. The a9L is better as a deterrent than as a weapon

This things max repair cost is going up from 7k tooooo……wait for it……..13K! Coincidentally, the F-4E is going from 13K to………12K. It is now cheaper to fly the F-4E than it is to fly the flareless F-4C….thank you gaijin, very cool!

Problem is, the F-4C never did or even could carry flares, maybe it was provisioned to carry chaff but I don't recall. It could and did carry 9Js and all sparrows up to and including the 7E-2

The only place I use this thing anymore is ground rb on the rare occasions I actually use an aircraft, and I just carpet bomb with it, or kill drones if the radar wants to fucking work

I love the plane, it’s just powercreeped to sht these days, flys beautifully and has decent weapons but the gaijin “balance” keeps it dead. Need a historical BR range and a countermeasure pod which the f4c can take

I used it as a cheap bomber for awhile. especially when i have a sim crunch albeit the f4e is still much better in the role

can you make a video about the J 35D, its similar to the f-4c in terms of powercreep but at 10.7...

I loved the f-4c but not that I’ve always had issues with the radar when trying to get a lock with the sparrows. I’d give the enemy pilot cancer before I get a lock. I just use the aim’s and go mach and usually I get kills.

If you can juke or outmaneuver a A5 in the first turn there not much of a problem unless they have some skill

imo I love the f4c.. I normally just climb 25k feet if in uptier ill stay around 17k for no contrails I normally bring 4 aim7 and 4 aim9. those aim7 are really great for such a lowtier the f4 is in. sorry if this didnt make any sense

Okay did NO ONE see the velocity changes? Hardly anyone understands that gaijin changed almost all, calibers of machine guns and auto cannons. .50 cals aren't effective beyond 1.5km any more, like literally super sonic jets out run the bullets at more than 1km. Alot of 20mm are hard to aim now because they're slower. Please guys go check the patch notes and search for velocity changes, im really tired of people acting like its a shadow nerf. Its not, they listed all the new velocities of the guns.

I love the F-4C.

The F4c is a pretty good fighter. I played more than 1400 games with F4c. It can carry many missiles and has the ability to play bvr. Many players say the F4c should go to 10.3 with Flare fitted, but I disagree. Because the f4c is already an attractive option and powerful enough to enjoy the game. If there is a player who wants an f4c with a flare, he should hope to get an f4d.

So sad. Such a sad place.

i love all the phantoms but the vulcans just not hit as hard anymore, like i got a crit on a mig 21s engine and didn't light him on fire i mean it's not bad but man it doesn't hit as hard anymore

I don’t know if it’s jsut me but the F4J is really growing on me, I find the more aggressive I play it the better she does me, I’ve one fighter against F-14s and other planes I have no rights beating ina dog fight

i Love this plane, it's not the best and doesn't have good armament but it has great performance and pretty okay ish dogfight capabilities while below 15 minutes of fuel. It's a plane you need to invest skill within getting missile kills.
