Zorro was hilarious! It will get too corny after a while lmao I was just imagining a person getting interested in what I was watching and then they see that zorro scene
Not enough people talk about James as a lyricist. He’s truly underrated in my opinion. “Hungry violent seeker, feeding off the weaker” just so good, I love it.
@@kingkeltic4228 take a deep breath. Off the word underrated makes you that angry? You have bigger problems pal. Besides it’s true he is underrated as a lyricist.
@@bodyrot2794 Clearly you don't know what the word underrated means go look up the definition I'll wait and I'm not angry at all telling you the truth and using a little profanity doesn't make me angry you sound like a bitch though.
My favourite Metallica track (Damage, Inc.). You will be completely blown away. Perhaps Alex should react to the WHOLE Master of Puppets album. Just a wild suggestion 🤷♂️🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
Believe it or not this was kind of an underground album. No radio play or videos until “one.” No internet and no free long distant calls during this time. A friend or older brother had to tell you about Metallica.
I found this album by accident. I was in 7th grade in 1986 and my parents let my sister and I each get 2 cassettes when they joined Columbia House. Remember the stamp booklet? So I choose Ratt and then Master of Puppets for nothing more than the cover. Didn't know who they were nor heard anything from them. Best accidental find of my life!
I had been listening to them for a while by the time it came out and you’re right in a way that it was “underground “, but in some ways they were huge in the European metal scene by then and the buzz around them was massive. We just knew that they were becoming the greatest ever metal band and that this was to be their opus magnus.
@@paulmoran7026 In Europe the spreading of the popularity of a band is (was) very different than America. There you don't need music videos on TV or the likes.
I personally don't agree but MoP is a really great record. In my opinion the best metal album or at least the best thrash metal album is Twisted into Form by Forbidden or Peace Sells by Megadeth.
This iconic, forever relevant killer album was written by guys that were between 21 & 23 years old.... they didn't have to write one more song and they would have been known forever.. Makes me feel like I have not done anything for this planet in 50 years
Do not forget that kickass bridge riff that plays before and after the solo that Kirk wrote, which slightly resembles a certain Exodus riff (I swear that riff is on the same level as the Angel of Death bridge riff.
This comes from a time when albums were sold as a whole. As such, track order mattered. It wasn't just a collection of songs, it was the story of what the band was living at the time they recorded. The first track is generally a mission statement for the whole album, setting the tone for what's to come. From here, you get the meat of the album, and then the last song brings it back to the beginning to make a whole package.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the battery reference is the place they started making music. They are saying it is what made them and it can never be taken away.
When I was in the US Marines I was a Tank Commander in Desert Storm We would name our tanks, Reference the movie FURY anyway I was a huge fan of Metallica and so my tank was named Metallica I took it one step further and also painted "names" of the crew members outside the tank the driver was RIDE the LIGHTNING refer earlier album I , the tank Commander was Master of Puppets, My loader was disposable heroes and my gunner was Kill em all! My unit was Charlie Company 3rd Tank Battalion and we battled at the Kuwait Airport and killed Sadams Republican Guards Tanks and Armored vehicles and eventually liberated the tiny Oil rich nation! in 1991 Just thought you would find this interesting to know that at that time Master of puppets was the warriors type of music and I think we did Metallica proud
I remember how honored I felt hearing that Metallica was being used as a "psychological " weapon in Iraq and Kuwait, I was 20 in 91, alot of friends were enlisting from school, I have lots of military family, my nephew graduated high school, turned 18 and enlisted all last week, so proud of him, and proud of you, thank you.
Glad you were in the Iraq war that was actually justified Thanks for your service, despite working for the empire this war in 90-91 needed to be fought Regardless of US interventions elsewhere (subjects Metallica took on) The first gulf war was something that needed to be done for the good of everyone not just the US I hope the Black Album was a good welcome home present Salutè
This album was written while i was in my mothers womb. It was released less than a month after I was born. My mother and Metallica didn’t realize at the time that they were both creating masterpieces.
Summer of 1988. I'm 18. Monsters of Rock. Liberty Bowl in Memphis TN. Metallica plays this song and I'm in the middle of the pit. It's hot as hell and they are spraying the crowd with firehoses. That is the one of the peaks of metal.
Funny you say that. When this came out, it changed everything. I am 50. This is the most influential album in this genre of music. I think I listened to this album over and over again for a year. This alone.
I've been misinterpreting the lyrics for literally decades. I thought this song was about domestic violence. Shows what I know. Thank you for clearing that up for me. Makes me wonder what other songs I have a completely incorrect head canon about.
Luckily enough, I WAS a teenager when this was released.. Absolutely blew me away, like the two albums before this.. Since then, I've had the pleasure of seeing them live eight times!!!
I was a teenager when this came out! My best friend got the cassette for Christmas We were mesmerized by the whole album, we felt like Metallica had reached Iron Maiden level songwriting and musicianship. So right away we started memorizing the lyrics. And playing air guitar!!! Listen to the whole album/cassette and read the lyrics. That's how we listened to it.
@@Carnage1138 great question. I actually was not exposed to Slayer until the mid 90s. No one I knew in 1986 was listening to them in Alaska where I lived at the time. Love me some Postmortem now a days though. \,,/
My fave song on this album is Orion, followed closely by The Thing That Should Not Be. If you want the opposite feeling of warmth, then Trapped Under Ice and Fade To Black from their second album Ride The Lightning should do fine.
To realize that this band created such a mature, well crafted thrash metal album at the ages they were at that time (22-23 years old) is just extraordinary. Glad you're diving into this Alex!
This album is (arguably) the best thrash album of all time, and (less arguably) the best album in Metallicas catalog. You should definitely react to the whole album, it's a masterpiece
@@nachocheez9690 some days I say Justice can't be better because I didn't realize there was no bass(while I play other things, I'm a bassist at heart and always), but then I listen to MOS. I go back and forth depending on which one I'm listening to.
in new zealand on the rock fm radio each year they get people vote for there top 10 songs and out of 2000 songs this has been number 1 so many times and they play ever song over 4 weeks
In my opinion, the performance of "creeping death" in that concert is the absolute best rendition of that song. Only '91 Moscow comes close, but not quite up there
Now you gotta do in my opinion the best song on the album ORION. hands down the best instrumental of all time...RIP CLIFF let’s get as many likes as possible
It was 1988 and I was riding the bus to school. A friend of mine, Salvador, let me listen to this song on his Walkman. It was the first Metallica song I ever heard. I was just getting into hair metal, mainly Poison and Europe, so I wasn't ready for this just yet. But I still remember it, all these years later. It took about 2 more years before I finally realize their power and greatness! \m/
You did an entire album reaction to Rust In Peace and ever since, I’ve been commenting and asking you to do the same for Master of Puppets or ...And Justice For All.
I think or rather want to think that the warmth you feel while listening is probably their passion. Something really important for me with music is the passion. Hence why I like metallica so much, you feel the passion dripping of every single song.
Who else was just waiting for Alex to jump when the song kicked in at the beginning? I had to pause the video, I was laughing so hard. I just remember being in a *massive* mosh pit to this back when I was 19. Good times!
@@danielbuchanan1564 Yes, Master Of Puppets is unbeatable, it got everything, and yeah not to forget, Cliff's magic on bass. He brought so much to the band.
@@vivekb1771 Cliff Burton was like "across the room" from me. I didn't understand guitar physics. So I didn't understand how Cliff's long ass hair did not get tangled up in his bass strings.
A MoP reaction is in order!!!! Yes! This opening song wakes you the fuck up!!!!! The last song on this album (Damage Inc.) reminds you that you're still alive and you need to fight!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Nothing like the first time when you hear all the instruments kick in after that acoustic intro. And then the unforgiving non-stop thrash ending. Incredible.
Disposable Heroes followed by Damage Inc. Do a double reaction with these two songs and afterwards I promise you that your face has been melted off 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
This song started my metal journey. I was lucky that it was the first Metallica song I ever heard. I was 12 it was 2001 and I'd mostly been listening to grunge and punk. But I was looking for something faster and heavier. I rode my bike down to Best Buy and I bought Master of Puppets. I remember getting home, throwing it in my Sony Diskman and getting my first metal jolt!! Been hooked on metal ever since!
Battery has one of the best album intros ever and Master of Puppets is their best record! Although And Justice for All, RIde the Lightning, Kill Em’ All, and Black Album were all stellar as well. ❤️😊👍🏽🙌🏽
I've seen them line around 10 or 12 times back in the 80s and 90's. I saw them twice in the same weekend. One night in Chattanooga Tennessee and the next night in Atlanta Georgia. They never disappointed me live.
@@dremarxmagnum5317 They re-recorded No leaf clover because James' vocals weren't on point in the live version of S&M. It's the closest thing to being a studio version.
I like old Metallica. This was one of their best albums. Give Welcome Home (Sanitarium) a spin if you want a bit of a darker feel from their early days.
I’m a CNA on a cardio unit so we use the portable rhythm boxes that uses batteries so every time the batteries need to be changed this song triggers lol
You loved checking out Megadeth's Rust In Peace, you will love checking out Master of Puppets in its entirety. This is the album that put the mighty in Metallica.
