When buying new taps be very careful unless you have a Combi boiler. For those of you with roof tanks and cylinders be extra careful what taps you buy. If you already have new taps giving low pressure (usually the hot one) here is a guide for improving the flow.
To buy some low pressure taps visit my Amazon shop here www.amazon.co.uk/shop/dereton33

Hi just fitted taps on my bathroom sink. Brought from ebay. They were rubbish could not stop it leaking. Then I found a pin hole in the side of the threaded feed connecter out the bottom of the tap. On closer inspection the pipe was rusty inside. Cheap ebay fail. Went to screw fix and got better ones all fixed now. Thanks for all your videos they gave me confidence to not give up. You saved me loads of money fixing stuff my self. Much appreciated.

I was seriously running out of things to try to solve my trickle hot water issue. Changing the old valves for gate valves is something that did not occur to me. Getting 5 times the pressure from my gravity fed tank system now. Thank you very much 👍

Great video. These days it's hard to find a modern single hole kitchen mixer tap designed for mains cold but gravity hot (0.1bar). Some claim to work on 0.1 bar but if they have ceramic valves and flexible hoses then you may mot be happy with the flow rate.

I suspect the hot taps are deliberately restricted to reduce a risk of scalding. Health and safety again !

Al always good advice from you . Is there any make that does large bore taps ,they never tell you in any description. Only that it is suitable for low pressure I have a tank in the loft Cold feed goes to taps first Bath mixer is ok New grohe mixer tap has slow hot water Is it possible to change the cartridge for a better type With larger holes ,thanks.
@dereton33
@dereton33 3 года назад
Not normally possible. Stick with high quality makes of taps , then when they say they are for low pressure you know that its right.

I found this video helpful. I replaced my bathroom taps and flow was terrible. I'm not a plumber but after looking into it found the new taps recommended to me require 0.5bar but I reckon I get 0.2bar in the upstairs bathroom with my gravity feed system. Solved it by buying different taps.

if you switch over the cold gravity to mains, you could have an expensive shower problem if its a mixer, id stick a pump on the hot, not that expensive

I think this is the most useful video yet. Lots of info and i like the diagram and explanation. I am learning each time. The kitchen was put in with deep worktops so the sink and tap is a few inches away from the outside wall. This great for turning the back nut on the tap under the sink but the flexi hoses are needed to fit into the copper piepe work on the back wall. I would prefer to fit the new tap I found (with copper tails) and then join them onto the back wall feed with a 15cm flexi. Is this advisable? Or am I going to need to learn solder copper pipe work? Thanks.
@dereton33
@dereton33 10 месяцев назад
The flexis will reduce flow slightly bur shoud be ok. You could always use plastic pipe as that is quite flexable to fit.

Bet that has caught a few people out, I am just about to fit new bath and basin taps, I was going to use flexi pipes but have gone of the idea after one failed at work and flooded the place. So just wondering why did they used to fit cold water tanks rather than making them mains fed, seams a bit pointless.

Thanks for the video! We had our taps in the kitchen replaced - the cold water pressure is great and the hot water pressure is great in the rest of the bungalow, but very slow in the kitchen (it used to be much stronger). After watching this, I looked under the kitchen sink and can see that the feeder pipe for the hot water is a very narrow one - I think I can replace this with one that is the same width as the cold and we'll have the same pressure as before.

Manufacturers sometimes state clearly whether their product is suitable for high, low or mixed pressure systems. This is not always made explicitly clear, especially if you have bought your mixer tap from an online retailer. Dual flow taps are made so that the water mixes in the spout and not the tap body. Even then, filling a bath is a "balancing act". You have to have the hot side fully open from tank/cylinder/low pressure feed and the cold side slightly open if fed from the mains. I've fitted bath (no dual flow) mixers where when both tap heads are fully open and only cold water (mains) comes out. Where the cold pressure is especially high, the cold has actually backfilled the cylinder, backfilled the storage tank and poured out through the warning/overflow pipe out the side of the house.

You're welcome. With your permission, I'll leave a link to this, your upload in my next upload. Just finishing off a complete bathroom overhaul. It's combi fed so no issues with brassware per se, but many people make this mistake, swapping tap pairs for mixers where they are not really compatible.

Hi I’ve had a combo fitted and have low pressure on my hot taps the water leaves the boiler on a 15 mm and enters the bath at 22 mm is that the right setup ?
@dereton33

No, it should leave the boiler in 22 mm and keep to that for the bath tap, only reducing to 15 mm for the basin and sink tap.

Check the basin hot and cold taps for a half closed isolation valve. It also might just be the taps are too restricted for your low pressure. Last thing to check, is that the main stopcock is on fully.

Hiya mate. I have tank hot and mains cold to a basin. I want a mixer tap, will the cold mains overpower the hot and backflow my water tank in the loft?
@oli8725
@oli8725 2 года назад
Or do low pressure taps mix the water at the spout?
@dereton33
@dereton33 2 года назад
They do mix at the spout. The mains though may push up the cold feed if you are mixing hot with cold, best fit a non return valve on the hot feed.

If on the mains not a lot if using tank pressure then the more bends the lower the pressure. No more than 6 bends .
@neilbatchelor3479
@neilbatchelor3479 4 года назад
15mm Full bore isolator instead of a gate valve. More bends than elbow fittings, reducing pipe size will increase water velocity (increase flow rate) towards the tap (start with 22mm then reduce to 15mm then to 12/10mm conecting to tap (mixer tap usually come with tails & should be used). Tap could also be an issue either not designed for ur system or faulty inside. Either replace parts if possible or new tap, which will be easier.
