Thank you for bringing this one to us. I'll be adding a few jigsaw blades to my wallet. Three in particular: One, a very aggressive wood saw for making it much easier to keep the integral saw in prime condition. Just as I would in order to save my handaxe for when nothing else would do by breaking a branch between two tree trunks. Two, a bi-metal blade as I don't have a convenient way to cut metal that I can carry every day. Three, as you mentioned, a diamond-coated or maybe carbide abrasive blade for very hard materials such as hardened steel or ceramics. None of these are the "right" tool for the job. But, if carried every day, most of my pockets hold the "Right now!" tools for the job and you just gave me three more for less than the cost of a sandwich, a tiny bit of space and only a few grams of weight. By the way, my daughter loves your book.

Long , long ago, on the first of April, I got into the elevator at 8 am to go to work........and the elevator stopped between two floors. I pressed the emergency button and help was promised. But I have a Swiss knife......😮 With the large knife I could push the lock aside a bit and block it with a ballpoint pen, then push it aside again and block it again and the door could open and I could crawl out. I got to work at 8.45 am. The Elevator Engineer? He arrived at 16.00 hour PM😮 Oh....uh When any door is open the elevator can't move.

Great tip! I found that turning the blade the other way works better for me as you are putting pressure in a downwards direction only, therefore you can make better use of the fulcrum position and you don't have to hold the hook down as hard.

Great movie! Thanks! I just added a wood saw blade to my Mountaineer. Ideas to reduce saw blade swing. 1) Use of a ring with a smaller diameter. 2) Using a ring with a larger diameter so that its edge goes under the hook. 3) Snapping the corkscrew onto the ringside pendant. Greetings from Warsaw, Poland!

Nice trick. I have bought one with a wood saw already, but that is for sure a neat little trick for those who have the multi-purpose hook. With a bit of patience the blades can even be cut to 'engage' on the hook properly (cut the shape of the hook on the side of the blade with a Dremmel for example)

I have an old Champion that has no lace hook. So I bought a new one that does. BUT the lanyard ring mount is way off to the side of the hook. I imagine only a few model SAK will work for this trick. So, I came up with a work around. I removed the ring and threaded into its mount, a thin paracord- like string. I cut it to be twice the length of the knife, and tied a tight knot on each end. Pulling the knots even, the ends hang down, no longer than the knife, and are lanyard-like. But then the saw blade.... Using 1/4" heat shrink I cut a short piece 9/16" long to put on the base of the blade and shrunk (as you did here. The rest of the heat shrink I slid the working end of the blade into as a sheath. Fitting the base of the blade into the hook's slot, I engaged the hook. Then pulled the cord out to full length, so one knot stopped it. The now long end, I ran through the hook, and above the blade base, and over the end of the knife body. Looped it around my finger and when holding the knife body to begin sawing, the cord takes the place of the lanyard ring. I admit it is a little tricky at first, but you do have to hold the knife tightly anyway, and I don't plan on sawing firewood or 2x4s. And I would keep a wood blade, and metal blade in separate shrink tubes in my pouch, safely.. I imagine that I can mod the string/cord a bit to be better, but this did seem to work around for the models that have the wrong dimensions for this videos ring trick. My decades old Champion will now live in the glove box of my car, for "in case of."

And here I though the hook was useless! What an ingenious idea, especially since I'm not the kind of person to need a wood saw on me at all times. My knife doesn't have a saw on on it at the moment, but this makes me feel getting a whole new knife just for a saw is ridiculous. I will have to try it out!

A leatherman surge diamond/crosscut file and saw kit would be a perfect companion! That would be a very nice video, that way you could sharpen your swiss army knife, have a file and metal saw, and a wood saw. Edit: Those have thicker shafts so side to side movement may not be a problem on those.

Thanks Felix for another great vid. Your ideas are always so clever and creative. Your shrink wrapping and taping the Tshank in particular made the setup so much more secure and workable. You made the original idea even better! I see from your vid you had the smooth end of the saw blade facing the tip of the hook. I think it would work better if we flip it around so the teeth of the saw faces the tip of the hook. With the saw blade sitting on the lower end of the SAK instead on the upper end allows better ground clearance and minimizes the chance of marring the end of the scales when in action.
