What is it and whys it help?
The first thing its a good safe and fun way to help you learn to drive.
So we set off for a 10-20 minute drive aiming to not have to stop the car for anything regardless of any unseen circumstances. Now i can imagine your quite confused because that doesn't sound healthy but hear me out. First rule of the game never do anything illegal or unsafe during this practice game. This game actually teaches you the complete opposite. This will help improve your style of driving everywhere because as many learners have said its actually easier to drive like this. It also helps you look for the important things in life which are of course traffic lights. You will improve your Eco driving massively as well which will help you save fuel and your braking, speed control and generally understanding with massively improve helping you pass your driving test. Give it a go and stay safe. Let me know how it goes!
What is The No Stopping Game
The no stopping game is pretty simple, you're aiming to stop the car as little as possible. If you stop the car at the red light when you really didn't need to stop, and you could have easily adjusted then you lose and you're buying the person next to you a coffee but if you do manage to keep the car rolling without stopping so you can continue when the lights go green then you win the game and they buy you a McDonald's. Result!
How does this help me?
I play this game with lots and lots of students and in some cases this has been the only thing that got them through their driving test. It helps you learn to go into traffic lights, traffic, junctions, roundabouts, basically everything at the better speed which is normally slower. Keeping everyone in the vehicle more comfortable including the examiner. It also helps you learn to be looking further down the road because otherwise you miss traffic lights or traffic ahead and you wont adjust your speed. In boring driving instructor terms this is known as Anticipation, Planning and Awareness. So if your driving instructor has mentioned anything of these to you this will massively help.
What about going through red lights and stop signs?
Now that doesn't mean not stopping at a STOP sign because legally you must always stop at a STOP sign even if you believe the road is clear. Never go through a red light because its dangerous and against the law. It just means if you can adjust and slow the car down a lot earlier which can be done in 90% of driving situations, preventing you from having to stop when you get to the lights because they change to green then do it it because this is going to save a huge amount of fuel, a huge amount of time and it helps the environment. It's also going to actually Help the People behind you, because you're going to help them slow down earlier giving them more time to slow down and less chance of going into the back of you.
What about the person behind me?
remember when you do this you aren't preventing anyone from doing anything because you're slowing down at a red light. If you were to slow down at a green light then yes this would be bad but if it's a red light they can't go anywhere anyway not another are certain places that you can't play this such as if there's a filter Lane on your left or on your right because if you gently roll into the red light as a filter Lane with a green light you're going to prevent the vehicle from getting into that Lane and then they're going to get very upset so do try and keep this in mind if you want to see a written version of this don't forget to have a look on my patreon it's exactly the same as this so no pressure if you can't come here for support me but if you'd like to it's there.
Exceptions to this rule where to don't want to do this is:
Slip road on the left without traffic lights and you are slowly drifting along into red lights blocking the other vehicles from moving into the slip road on the left they might get a bit upset from a recent experience, woopsy, so just be mindful of this.
