Jeez I just built and priced out a King Ranch, even without the hybrid still got to $78k while missing a few options. That’s a $1250 monthly payment over 5 years with 20% down. So realistically if youre not making over $150k, you cannot afford one.
For what it’s worth- we just got a 2022 Expedition. Per company regs just certain trim levels are available because higher ones go to senior executives. Strangely, we can pick whatever options however. I am driving an $80k truck… an XLT (i.e. 2nd lowest trim grade).
I hear a lot of people complaining about the cost of a new truck. Have you seen the price of used one's? I tend to keep my vehicles for 10+ years, so I ordered a new King Ranch and I'm happy with my choice.
I have an f150 on order and I opted for the work surface. We frequently take road trips and stop to eat along the way. The work surface will make it much easier to eat in the vehicle which is usually one of my most hated things to do. Also, due to the nature of my job I have to do a lot of writing of reports or evaluations. The work surface gives me the option to work effectively while I’m waiting for the kids to finish up practice or I am in between appointments. I LOVE the King Ranch but I opted for a fully optioned Lariat instead. When I built them both with the same exact options and the King Ranch was still 5k more. I couldn’t bring myself to spend 5k more just because I like the entire and the thought of pretending to be a cowboy 😂
No way do not waste your money, invest it in an appreciable asset especially if you are young…. Just buy a XLT with a few special features that you might like……………
Even the xlt is high 50s low 60s depending on options. I really don't know who is buying these. We're talking 2018 diesel F250 prices for a low trim truck
@@Rommer2258 really depends on monthly payment, some people trade in trucks that are still worth $30-35k, so technically they’re only financing 25-30k which is under $600 a month. So realistically if youre making $100k, that’s a pretty comfortable car payment. Plenty of folks make that. Many people who use these trucks for business or work can write off much of the cost under section 179.
This is the average person's truck. Come to TX where more trucks per year are sold than anywhere. Lariat trims and above are the vast majority of trucks on the road.
@@ryansheard8092 yeah but they're paying a crazy amount that i'm sure isn't necessarily financially smart (i'm in Houston)....prices are ridiculous for these trucks. Lariat at the most but anything higher and it's like DAMN
If you want a truck for truck purposes buy a work truck package when you order. You can order the 5.0 engine, tow hitch and bed liner for under 40K. If you want a 4 wheel drive limousine and have the checkbook for it, the King Ranch is your "truck"...
At this rate xlt's are gonna be $75k in 4-5 years, hell they already in the low 60s from what I've seen that was fully loaded every option lariat trim a generationago and not including the $10k+ off in rebates. Can't wait to see who reaches $100k first for half ton pickup(excluding raptor, trx)
We had a 2018 King Ranch on a lease, sticker was 67k and when it was up we traded it in for a 2019 platinum diesel F150 and they were trying to get rid of because it wouldn’t sell. It was already March of 2020. We got it for $50k. 78k miles later it has been awesome. 26mpg also. Zero problems.
An f150 limited can hit 100k with all the options checked I believe. If not.100k, it's close. Edit: apparently 85k is about where the limited tops out now.
So many things Tommy touched on in the vid, it's hard to get to everything lol, but one thing not pointed out was the LED headlights. Picked up a 502A Lariat about 3 weeks ago and they have the same headlights as the KR in this video. They are hands down the best headlights I've ever had in any previous vehicle. They swivel left or right with the turn of the steering wheel, and also self level as well. Driving out in the country at night you feel pretty safe from deer etc as the beam pattern is fairly wide, and very bright. Great vid Tommy!
I don’t actually have one of the new trucks with the folding shifter/workspace, but I can tell you I would use it all the time. I’m constantly using my truck as a mobile office with my laptop/folders/scheduling book resting on the arm rest. I am getting a new truck through work this year and honestly I’m very excited to finally have the extra workspace
I own a 2021 F-150 Limited Powerboost and it stays in the shop (I just got it back after being out of commission for over month for the 2nd time) The problem is all of this great innovative tech makes these trucks less dependable. Blue Cruise appears lightyears behind GM's Super Cruise when watching Andre's latest Silverado High Country test drive. Blue Cruise, the truck meanders in the lane from side to side, doesn't take turns well, causing the driver to take the wheel and biases to the inside passenger-side of the lane, which Big Rigs are also bordering next to you. Absolutely terrifying at times. The infrared sensors also don't work at night to see your face and causes the system to shut off (It cannot see through glasses and prompts you to watch the road. I've tried lifting my glasses to my forehead and it tricks the system temporarily, but then I eventually have to remove my glasses and not too long after it doesn't detect that I am watching the road, glasses or not and shuts off after several prompts to watch the road) How Ford got the ok to release this system to the masses is beyond me. With that said, it's best vehicle I've ever driven when everything is working correctly. It glides downs the road with a sense of polish and sophistication that even the most luxurious cars in the world lack. The acceleration is unmatched by anything not named TRX. The 7.2 KW generator works better than advertised, as I powered an entire Hollywood level film crew and production off the back of my truck in the New Mexican Mountains. There's not another vehicle on the planet that can make that claim. I also use the work surface as we always work from the road. I will say the Wi-Fi in this truck does not work as well as GM's LTE 4G Wi-Fi and has problems connecting to certain devices, especially my wife's work computer. Sync 4 is a huge improvement over Sync 3, but even still most of the apps such as Glympse do not work. You cannot send navigation directions from your phone to your vehicle as advertised. GM's radios are so much better and remain light years ahead, feature for feature. That's my real world take. I drive this truck every day. It's quirks are enough to make me consider getting rid of it, but I really like the 7.2 Kw generator. I waited to pull the trigger on the new Sierra Denali Ultimate and it is now sold out. I am regretting that decision.
Mine to guy. PowerBoost is garbage. Screens goes black. Ac barely blows. Fear shifter gets stuck in park while the little light blinks. Throwing codes for DEF fluid!!!. Trash huge regrets buying this.
before coming to the comments i was JUST thinking that all this new tech in a supposedly rugged pick up truck is probably not all there when speaking about usability/reliability to work properly.
Any new truck is out of my price range. I’m in my upper 30s with a family. We’re middle class in terms of income. I feel like we make decent money but I can’t justify committing that much of my income to a new truck. Basically car prices have priced me out of even considering anything new or used.
Because of lack of inventory and general commodity inflation it is hard to get a feel for true price and value. The longer this goes on the higher the chances are that this pricing will become normal to us. (Already has) Things will settle down and we will eventually see full lots and $10,000 off MSRP incentives again. Right now though you got to pay to play baby!
I doubt those days will ever come back. Manufacturers learned they can produce a lot less and make record profits. GM learned prior to the pandemic to sell more Sierras at a lower rebates and this overcomes the cost of Silverado market share. Ford just shills out just enough F-150's to make a substantial profit per unit. By producing less costs are low and because of higher per unit profit shareholders are extremely happy.
My last truck was a Ford but I test drove a 2021 Ram 1500 Limited and fell in love with it, especially the interior. They have left Ford and GM in their dust
@@jgbecker24 I was iffy about them myself but the 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty that I got with it sold me on it. I had the 3.5 eco boost in my Ford and that thing had me at the dealership way to many times. Ford is trying but that all digital gauge cluster is hideous lol. GM don’t even deserve to be in the conversation at all lol.
I use the work surface in my truck for zoom meetings mostly if I need to attend one while out and about. I hotspot off my phone when I do it. The 120V plugs can be handy for this in this situation. I think they should take the truck out of the gauge cluster and add two mare gauges. I would like to have voltage, boost, oil pressure, water temp, and trans temp all up on the screen.
I love those seats. It's about time the upper back area is adjustable. I wish the rear seats could recline individually, middle seat from the passenger seat.
Being 6’4” with 34-36” inseam, I’m particular on the seats if I spend that kind of money. Historically, Ford has always had good seats, but wish the adjustments were a bit more especially for those long trips. I finally found I could get those extra adjustments and additional comfort by using “Seat Jackers”. If you’re on the fence, check them out!
Worth?? Depends. If you get it and flip it asap, then sure. You're likely to get the same money back, or more in some cases in the current truck market. But if this is a long term investment, you're likely to experience an extreme financial loss since the market does shift, the economy is certain to tumble, and supply chain issues won't always be where they are. I think who will be hurt the most are those who paid over MSRP, which still is unjustifiable for a mainstream vehicle.
Tommy just exposed himself that he's actually an old man from 90s, time travelled to this young body lol. "Not long ago you can buy a house with this money". From what I remember, housing pricing never been under 100k since mid 2000, at least for my city that is.
I lived in Lexington, Nebraska for 20 years and when I moved 2 years ago you could get a decent house for 75k-100k at that time. Prices are higher now but still affordable in rural Nebraska.
No vehicle over $50,000 is obtainable to an average person with a family. The worst part of vehicle now is they are throw aways just like appliances if you’re lucky you’ll get a good one if not you’ll be at the dealership trying to get stuff taken care off. Vehicles are so complicated and complex that it cost an arm and a leg to get stuff fixed. With the way the world is now I swear auto manufacturers are taking advantage of it and have increased the MSRP a lot and some dealerships are marking them up throw the roof. Plus it doesn’t help how lazy UAW employees are that they want more money but don’t want to work.
Was with you right up until the end... if everything costs more money of course ppl dont want to work for less hahha look at the prices of housing and transportation. Nobody "wants" to work for lame pay because it just isnt thesible. Why would Billy Joe clock in at Popeyes for 9 dollars an hour if his car payment is 400 and rent is 1200, phone 50, insurance 50, food 400.... hes not jus making dogshit. Hes operating in the red.
I used to work for a company that built the frame for the F-150 and all the truck drivers and salary people that would go to ford would just talk about how minimal work they would do for the amount of money they get paid. Don’t get me wrong no one wants to get paid like crap but at the same time my personal opinion UAW “union” works are among the laziest people I have ever met. That is what’s making vehicles also unobtainable for an average person. Keep in mind UAW employees get a massive discount when they buy a new vehicle you’re easily talking anywhere between $5,000-$10,000
@@2lopezd Thanks for your "opinion", but the facts are that the USA UAW Union workers are the most productive in the World. Also, you surely overestimate their wages. Per Glassdoor, the average wage at GM for an assembly line worker is $24/hr.
Vehicles are the worst investment you can make. The prices of new vehicles is insane. I will keep my older F 150 as it does the same job but I owe nothing on it.. In upstate NY after 5 to 7 years of our winters with all the salt / calcium chloride the trucks get cancer. The frames literally rot in half.
I don’t think the KR is worth it in my opinion. I have a XLT 302A high package fully spec’ed out and have 90% of all those features for 55k. I don’t need/want leather seating, and honestly, that’s probably the only real big difference is the seats and some fancy trim work on the interior. I have the zone lighting, fancy tailgate, on board power, lane centering, led headlights, adapted cruise control, tow package…the list goes on. So for me the extra 20k price tags just isn’t worth it.
Smart man. Same thing i did with my Ram 54k. Back country bighorn tech 2a and premium lights. VS 65k for lariat longhorn. I guess i dont have 22s on my truck or a sunroof... shame its quieter and rides better, ill just have to deal lol
I bought a 2023 with a considerable discount from the dealer and a $2000 cash rebate along with 1.9%. Still expensive with the MSRP being $83k to start (before discount and rebate) and pretty much fully loaded, but the discounts, rebate and APR is what made the deal worth it…..to me at least!
I guess my 1997 F150 Lariat 4x4 will continue to be my all around truck. No way can I pay 75k plus unless the luck of the numbers happens. King Ranch an awesome truck. Tommy....a great segment.
These trucks are worth exactly what people are willing to pay for them, not a penny more or less. Since Ford sells every one they make, I would say yes that truck is worth $75k. No matter the brand, the pickup truck is the best selling vehicle in America. High prices accompany high demand. These pick up trucks will not come down until they are less popular. Less demand equals lower price.
As a low middle class or upper lower class income these trucks aren’t attainable for us let alone their base versions. To me there’s too much tech that will ultimately be very costly to repair. However I’m the type that thought my 05 Cummins had everything I needed but backup cams would’ve been nice for hooking trailers and the ability to use Bluetooth.
If people would stop paying these stupid prices, the prices would come down. Supply and demand. Auto manufacturers will keep the supply low now that they have the market figured out.
Ford just mailed a notice out to expect a significant increase in all products in the near future, might be a gimmick, but limited f150 in Canada is 97k
Maybe, I've seen used trucks cost more than new trucks. Like 20 year old trucks lol the market is stupid. But I do agree with you. Buy property instead
I bought an after market tailgate cover/protector for about $80. I bet they could stamp in a ruler and a few extra hooks and it’d still be under $100. Great ideas but when options can almost add 100%… Each to their own of course but I prefer the lower spec models. They tend to age well. Seems a fairly even split between people who don’t see the value and those who do. It’s a shame we can’t confirm if those buyers and potential buyers are genuine or just love the brand. If you’ve got money to burn, good for you. But most of us don’t get to a position that we could afford such prices by paying overs in the first place. The used market over the next 3 - 5 years will be interesting. Surely manufacturers can’t artificially perpetuate supply chain issues for that long…
I have a 2021 f150 limited powerboost loaded I love this truck it a little pricey especially after I have the entire truck ppf and ceramic coated and install a roush cold air intake and a skid plate for the Catalytic converter to stop theft and a roll and lock tonneau cover but all said and done I absolutely love this truck
I refuse to comply with these inflated prices because at its core, the reason why they are so high is the inability of companies like Ford to manage their supply chain adequately. With commodity prices also on the rise, the true cost of ownership would be even higher if you use this as a daily commuter.
@@ryansheard8092 Yes, it really is the reason. Economics 101. Chip shortage + other supply chain shortages from covid is reducing vehicle supply while demand has returned to precovid levels. Low inventory plus normal or higher demand results in increased pricing. Admittedly, some of it not their fault but straight canceling chip orders at the onset is their fault. The chip supply has exposed serious weaknesses in the just in time inventory model concept. This is why they still have fields filled with unfinished cars/trucks. Only Toyota had the foresight to realize chips are a bottleneck to manufacturing and started storing excess chips prior to the pandemic.
@@TheWrathofnumenor uhhhhh.....that has meant dealers aren't coming off MSRP but MSRP numbers have been increasing for years along with the CPI and so $78K is MSRP and has the most of nothing to do with chip shortage. You could argue a few hundred to a thousand doars on MSRP may be chip rated but that's all. 🙂
@@ryansheard8092 This dude is totally ignoring the fact that annual inflation is currently at 8.5%. He wants to blame corporations instead of policy makers. Just for some perspective, the annual rate of inflation was hovering around 1.2% in 2020.
@@plutosrealm4594 agree on the current inflation too. But, if you were to graph the annual increase of MSRP costs of trucks over the last 15 yrs vs annual increase CPI for the same period you'd see a parallel. Pandemic & supply chain issues aside the current MSRP of trucks is about where you'd expect based on historical (past 10-15 yrs) price trends.
Okay but imagine. Just imagine how amazing this would be. A king ranch. 5.0 V8. 7 speed manual (bronco) and a tow package. My dream. Obviously never going to happen sadly. Even if it could being only 21 I can't even afford a used f150 let alone a new one.
Thank you young man. I bought a 2005 f-150 king ranch in 2005. It was $38,000 with $7200 off MSRP. Including tax title and license. I bought another in 2014 paid $49,000 with $10,000 off MSRP end of year. Including 7-year 100,000 warranty. I could afford those trucks. Yea my income has gone up but not 80% like the current truck. Basically you could count on getting at least $5k off MSRP on the past and if you waited for end of year you could get $8 to $10k off. Progress min the past meant more features better for same and rice each year adjusted for inflation. That’s no longer the case. Truck prices are easily double the rate of income increases for most people. Robots were suppose to reduce costs. Fewer employees were suppose to reduce cost. The truth and s inflation is much much higher than income level increase.
I have a '21 F150 XLT 302A with the 3.5L and max trailer tow package. it was $58K pre shortage and I love it. I'm planning to order a Ranger Raptor when it hits the US and tow it to W TX to the desert with my F150. I don't think the KR would be of interest to me due to the cost/benefit anysis in my situation but $78K for it isn't that awful. It's gotta be a LOT more than an XLT simply due to the prestige, features and naming rights.
I don’t see anybody buying a truck like this taking it to a construction site. The coolest thing on there is definitely the inverter system however, all that electrical stuff like most Ford’s it’s gonna break down within five years and just quit working. I kinda long for the simpler days.
Fairly sure that is a 2021. I’m buying a 22 and the digital readouts on the temperature gauges are no longer in the new truck. If Ford has put them back in, please let me know. I bought the part to fix that but the truck hasn’t arrived yet. ;)
That is correct, although the 2021 and a half models came with trailer scales and digital temperature readouts. Or it could be that early 22 models did not suffer from the chip shortage.
That's what I noticed. The little readouts on the temperature adjustment is gone now. I ordered my truck in March and they say it's due to be built in the second week of September.
@@natewallace3169 I ordered mine in March too but it hasn’t been scheduled. It’s been stuck in Priority 2 for what seems like forever. Sweet that yours is going to be built soon!
I have the interior work surface on my 2021 XLT and I love it. I have to do quotes on the road and it is super helpful especially with the in-truck wifi. Worth the money!!!
I drove one yesterday and they are simply amazing. The fit and finish are leaps and bounds above the previous models. I drove F150's that were given to me by my work from 2015-2019 and these current ones simply blow those away. These truly are luxury vehicles now if you get anything above the basic models.
@@therealjohnsmith4811 First off you are not going to win any EPA awards with that king range power boost and second the king ranch has a max tow capacity of 9,700lbs and that’s with a lesser optioned one. If I’m not mistaken that’s only about 1,600 more than a TRX and only 800lbs more than a ZR2 so in my opinion the king ranch is a rip off for the price.
@@howardcordova3036 no truck is winning a few economy award. But when we are talking about as much as possibly 8-10 mpg difference, that is huge. 1600 pound towing capability difference is huge.
@@howardcordova3036 you are also giving up almost 1000 pounds of payload. The T Rex is only rated to carry 1300 pounds. That is pathetic by modern half ton standards
@@therealjohnsmith4811 I do apologize if I said mean things about Fords, fan boys tend to get upset when somebody disagrees with Fords. I owned an 18 XLT 3.5 eco-boost it was a great truck I loved it but I also didn’t pay over 40 grand for it, I was able to talk them down 5k plus fords rebates were great at the time so I had about 10k off sticker price and my argument was about it’s not worth the price compared to its capability I did not mention mpg nor did I mention tow capacity. If you want good MPG go buy a Prius or be my guest spend 70 grand on a king ranch just so you can tow more weight.
Sign me up! I love that truck and that color combination. I currently drive a 19' F150 Lariat Supercrew and this King Ranch would be my next truck ....someday hopefully
I was always tought to never finance over 50% of the value of the automobile for no more then 4 years. I have always followed this rule and I have always stayed on top for car purchases. The way I look at it if I can not follow this rule I can't afford the car.
Personally, I got one over the platinum, the feature set is identical at the top end as far as I can tell, but the leather color is sooo much better. The brown on the platinum made me think of baby poop after they eat carrots andblack leather is fine, but have always preferred brown.... My 2¢'s... Would love to see a king ranch edition lightning as the current lightning leather colors suck.
i am still driving my 2002 f150. There is no way i am paying 60-70k for a pickup truck which is 3x what i paid for mine. I decided to keep my pickup for pickup uses and get a 4runner offroad for 43K, which is what the trucks should cost. Saw a show where they plotted car prices for the last 20 years with inflation and they were essentially the same price. Trucks on the other hand were 30% more expensive beyond inflation. If people stop buying them then they will start pricing them reasonably. Maybe a recession will finally bring pricing back to earth
My grandfather trades in his king ranch for a brand new one every two years. He has a 2022 now (with the 5.0) and has told me that it is time for him to move toward a ranger because the F150 is just getting too expensive
I am waiting for the day when powerboost hybrid type setups are no longer special. I want to see hybrid drive trains as standard fair on all pick trucks mid size and full size alike. I want to see hybrid F150 STX, Ram tradesman, and the Silverado customs come with 10kw inverters and battery packs that would make a lightning jealous. I want to see Rangers, frontiers and tacomas come with hybrid drive trains equipped with 5kw inverters as standard too. We have the tech so whats the hold up?
No. It’s not. I honestly can’t believe how much they cost now. I started selling Fords in 2011. The most expensive F-150 was the Raptor King Ranch was about 60k. For 75k you could get a decently equipped diesel F-250. 15k increase in 11 years is insane.
The average new vehicle price in the US is $47k for 2022 per KBB. Considering the versatility and capability of modern pickups, it's really not that crazy. Especially when you consider used car prices are up between 40-45% since the start of the pandemic. The average used vehicle selling price is $26k in the US for 2022. These are all results of inflation running at an annual rate of 8.5%.
But they put a new shiny screen in and a ton of expensive electronics that are going to be prone to fail and cost a 3-month salary of someone like me to repair
Really liked the F150 hybrid especially the king ranch interior but yeah they are pricey. Decided to put down a deposit on new tundra TRd pro for a little less money and more off road bells and whistle.
I agree. If you go back and look at those, the leather aged just like a saddle would. No heavy wrinkling or cracking at all. Ram was the same way on the 4th-Gen Longhorn, but even those have good leather, but not that high-grade of years' past.
I love your videos, and i'll watch this start to finish, but no Ford, Chevy, or Dodge truck are worth 70k plus! Why? Because, while they all might have great "tech", they still are making thousands of these vehicles per year, so they cheap out on the parts bin. They still all use 80-90's tech in these vehicles. Window regulators for example, same parts as 90's trucks. For 70k, give me a vehicle worth 70K in 2-3 years, but not any of the big 3! Great work everyone at TFL!
Not that it’s a big deal but I believe that’s a 21 model ? Reason being is for thr 22 models , Ford took out a couple of things due to chip shortage and the temperature dial does not display temp , only the big 12 in screen does. They also took out the cup holder lights , glove compartment and bottom door area lights.
My 2022 king ranch just came in yesterday, beautiful truck,im currently driving a f150 powerboost ,l have to say l was really disappointed in the ride of the king ranch,it is really rough compared to my powerboost, both have the same wheel base plus the seats are rock hard and not at all comfortable in the king ranch also what's up with the steering wheel in the king ranch that thing is a notch below the hardness of plastic? My powerboost steering wheel is nice and soft ,the king ranch is also loader as far as road noise compared to the powerboost, l ordered the king ranch with the B/O sound system and to me it doesn't really sound any better than the stock system in my powerboost,im glad that l don't have to take the king ranch, l.will be keeping my powerboost f150 in my opinion it's far more comfortable truck
75K for everything you would get in this King Ranch would honestly be a steal, but unfortunately with low inventory, and dealer mark-ups, you would be lucky to get into a truck this loaded for less than 90K.
