I've been seeing a lot of you talk about Deep Space Nine here in the comments and I feel I should point out that the clip in the video is actually from the first episode of Voyager (which I did state in the video).

Just checked even in the german dub Quark says low-buy. :D

I've always been pronouncing it "low-buy" and when you think about it from the ferengi's perspective its kind of a pun. Ferengi Like Buying things, if they want to make something cheaper, they could use a "Low-Buy" crystal.

You are 100% correct. My other pet peeve is the pronunciation of "Fek'lhri." I distinctly remember Worf pronouncing it as "feck-larry" in the show. I'm quite certain that it's supposed to be a lowercase "L" rather than an uppercase "i." But I guess it's too late now that Cryptic has been misspelling it for a decade....

Damn it! I had been looking for this last time I rewatched DS9, and I was so annoyed when I never heard it! I thought I was crazy, because I remembered lobi crystals being a thing from some episode or another. Why didn't I think to check the first episode of Voyager?!?!

Funny how I would hear you pronounce it “Low-Buy” but then for some weird reason (probably due to the way it is spelled) I would say it as “Low-Be” because of the i at the end of Lobi. Best part is, why would we not say it as “Low-buy” especially when the word ends with the letter, i . . Lo = Low / bi = buy Lobi . . . . 🤦‍♂️ When did we ever stop pronouncing the end word bi the wrong way anyways. Such as in Binary. Now I wonder in Star Trek if the Crystals Quark had actually had an inherent bi property. 2 crystals, 2 features of the singular crystal? And what did the Lo part stand for? I have many questions ! Never once stopped to scratch my head on this. 😆 This is also the case with other games I had to choose how to pronounce words, such as in Dragon Warrior1 / Dragon Quest 1 town names, as there was no in game audio for reference. Funny how we try to pronounce words and get them wrong! That clip of DS9 was great! Quark had such a great character. Deep Space 9 was such an amazing series as well ! !

Yes and no,the pronunciation of words depend of your native language,in the example of Quark he is talking in english so the pronunciation is in english,for another language it can sound different,main rule of languages is pronouncing the words and letters as you know them in your native language.

Actually... You are both right and wrong at the same time. Lo-buy is the English pronunciation,, while the general European pronunciation is lo-bee. Unlike the English, we never had The Great Vowel Shift, so there's no aye in ee anywhere else...
