No, even though it lost its target it has multiple modes that don't require targets meaning those effects resolves as normal. The target mode doesn't resolve but the remaining modes should, since they don't require targets.

@@FPSveteran no, even if it has multiple modes, if all declared targets have become illegal it fizzles. This is why some newer commands requires you to target a player with almost purely beneficial effects, just so it doesn’t fizzle.

@@FPSveteran 608.2b If the spell or ability specifies targets, it checks whether the targets are still legal. A target that’s no longer in the zone it was in when it was targeted is illegal. Other changes to the game state may cause a target to no longer be legal; for example, its characteristics may have changed or an effect may have changed the text of the spell. If the source of an ability has left the zone it was in, its last known information is used during this process. **If all its targets, for every instance of the word “target,” are now illegal, the spell or ability doesn’t resolve. @@DarkEinherjar gotcha. I was thinking it like mystic confluence. You gotta have at least one target for it to resolve, unlike this instance.

@@FPSveteran Actually, Mystic Confluence is on the same boat as Cryptic Command: as long as you only pick modes without targets, you don't have to worry about it fizzling, but it even one mode with a target is chosen, it must have at least one legal target as it tries to resolve.

Essence Harvest too, with the added bonus of not losing your big creature.

I prefer essence harvest. Just one more mana and you don’t have to recast Umbris for 7 freaking mana.

I really like Umbris theme, I would always feel scared to play against it 😂

I changed my dimir mill deck into an umbris deck. Milling is still there, but I added a lot of exile cards for it. So the strategy is kind of the same as it was, but with commander damage being a threat this time. It rocks, but it's slow.

fr tho, I turn up for edh and end up watching archenemy. The player that got badlands, mana crypt, black market and meren on their board by turn 3 get removed first, no matter what.

The card goes from nothing to "oops I'm going to kill you all" VERY fast.

the ziatora deck was targeted the most and still won. don't know if i would call that balanced.
