I love these older films, noir, crime drama's, etc.....especially the NOT so popular ones, ones that you don't recognize by name, these are great, storylines and acting ! How about a whole day of Steve Cochran playing a gangster movies. Highway 301 was a great action packed movie i never see on TCM.

The Ghost Ship could be considered a Lewton noir, possibly even The Body Snatcher as well

Film Noir borrows heavily from German Expressionism so there is a strong common heritage. The distinction I make, which goes for between horror and 'thriller', is if there is an element of the supernatural. Horror needs to have at least a plausible possibility of some kind of monster.

Love Psycho - but not because it’s scary - everything else - up to and including Simon Oakland as the Psychiatrist and Ted Knight as the guard at the end. Balsam is superb. McIntire et al.

YES! "Diabolique" (the 1955 original) is definitely film noir! (The 1996 remake is terrible) I also agree that "Night of the Hunter" is a unique version of noir; it has a fable or very menacing fairy tale feel.

Two more good productions: early Seventies Horror Express is also a thriller and not only horror, and end Sixties The Exquisite Cadaver is more a thriller than a horror, and in any case the best of Barcelona School of Films movies.

Psycho absolutely is a noir film until the show scene happens then its a horror movie but I have to disagree Diabolique is a horror film that has a noir feel to it, but the films atmosphere screams horror the headmaster is haunting the woman throughout the film just so happens that the big twist was he wasn't dead.
