I hope that some gigabrains out there find a way to use the cessation spell in Noita to do some even crazier stuff! Heart Mage Trick Video: • Noita's Health Trick E... Twitch: / dunkorslam Twitter: / dunkorslam #Noita
Yeah, was surprised he didn't mention that. I was waiting for Dunk to do it at the end. He even had the reduce lifetime in his bar. But then he just ends the video T_T
To all those asking: Cessation cannot be placed inside a hollow egg, or any other trigger for that matter. Attempting to place Cessation inside of a payload causes it to be cast instantly, and the charge is consumed, even before the trigger payload would normally detonate. Also, Cessation has no effect on the remaining duration of any effects from consuming a material (i.e, it will not extend the duration of poly immunity, worm blood, etc.)
*Explaining Cessation mechanics:* - *Avoiding Cast Delay (CD) / Recharge Time (RT) with divides* Adding Double Cast before D2 in the wand from the video would solve the issue. Divides "not working" when targeting a greek letter has nothing to do with how either greek letters or divides work. It's easy to make it work even if you're copying Cessation with a greek letter and you don't absolutely have to divide either Greek letter or Cessation (although it's easier to do it directly). All you need to do is to make sure that the cast with Cessation in it is the last cast on the wand before it recharges. In the video after D2 copies Gamma there's still Cessation itself left on the wand which makes it not the last cast. _Technicalities_ : The reason it works is because when Cessation gets cast it starts the wand reload with whatever current reload time is. If the normal wand reload also starts after Cessation it will overwrite the time wait that Cessation sets. Divides save current CD / RT, then copy the spell that they target, then set CD / RT back to the saved values which is what allows them to "bypass" CD / RT of whatever they copy. The problem is that even tho both CD and RT got reset, unless it's the very last cast of the wand RT doesn't do anything and instead the wait time is whatever Cessation passes when it starts the reload. And Cessation gets cast in the middle of divide by evaluation so the order of operations goes something like: save CD / RT -> cast Cessation -> add CD / RT -> start reload with current CD / RT -> set CD/RT back -> [ start waiting for CD ] OR [ start waiting for CD / RT if it's the last cast ] In the case of _not last cast_ only CD is overwritten but not RT since RT applies on the last cast therefore the reload time is the one that Cessation set. - *Triggers/timers* You can evaluate Cessation inside of a trigger/timer to avoid its Cast Delay. The effect of Cessation is not adding something to the payload, instead it directly affects the world when the spell gets cast (same way End of Everything does). Triggers/timers don't cast spells, they release the payload that was added by spells *when the wand was cast.* - *Refreshing effect duration* Cessation and Poly both refresh the duration of status effects that rely on their LifetimeComponent because it refreshes the frame on which the component is supposed to kill that effect. Ingesting things and getting stains is based on some quantity of the thing that gives you the effect like poly meat timer is based on how much meat you eat or Healthum regeneration stain is some % value that decreases as you move around. Additionally things like Regeneration Effect from Circle of Vigour that are a GameEffect also won't get reset if their lifetime is based on their GameEffect lifetime. _Most impactful effects you can reset_ : Homing, Weakening, Twitchy, Hearty wizards - Hungry Ghost buff (yes, you can stack it infinitely if you cast Cessation fast enough) - Personal Throwers - Personal Gravity Field - Venom Curse - certain Twitch Integration effects (haven't personally tested but there's nothing that would prevent that from happening from what I can see). All of those effects get reset if they apply to the player. No reason to apply them to enemies since they can't get Cessation effect (explained below). - *Cessation on enemies* No enemy in the game has the right component to get the Cessation effect. Even if you give them the wand and they cast it Cessation simply won't do anything until it finds PlatformShooterPlayerComponent which, as the name suggests, is a component that only a player has. Unless you're playing with mods and there's some enemy that also has that component. P.S. If there are other questions then the best place to ask is either the official Noita Discord or Dunk's own discord
@@supremebuffalo6322 I initially thought it was some standalone Latin word but apparently it comes from Latin "Cessatio" which in turn comes from "Cesare" which also means to _cease_ so you're right. 👍
I've been thinking about an explosive reactive fish armor wand build using True Orbit and Drilling Shot with Summon Fish to have orbiting projectile eaters, but I don't think you can use Cessation with any kind of trigger. It just casts Cessation instantly when you cast the wand.
bro your videos are not bland, you show things and explain it like its a science and very interesting to hear your knowledge as a new player, i feel like other new players feel the same, even old players learn a thing or too everytime you explain something about this game thats why this game is awesome, so many aspects of it feel like its a science and a living world but its just a really fun game and the game i had been looking for this entire time, as a roguelite/like lover i hope they add like a noita 2 update where some things persist in the world even in new runs and this means like a housing system with all type of tools that dont give you a big advantage, i like the difficulty
Neat video. Something else I noticed about cessation is that it ignores delayed casting orders. Say if you have a Delayed cast and/or a long distance cast that has an extended lifetime cessation will still cast first. You can also multicast it with Destruction and not pay the HP cost, or alongside explosion spells without taking damage. (Explosion of thunder won't even set you on fire when you start existing again)
Would love an add trigger spell that works like the normal add trigger, but if it hits an eligible entity, the triggered spell is modified to be "owned" by the entity hit by it. It basically makes the target cast the triggered spell, as though they had a wand. I'm sure there are some other funky things you could do with it, probably around healing, but you could bap something with it where the triggered spell is an infinite duration cessation and they'd just... cease. Something like [spark bolt][add source trigger][reduce lifetime][cessation] would fire a sparkbolt that causes the target to cast the infinite cessation. Would be super overpowered, but so is an infinitely recursing spells-to-power tentacle with infinite damage.
the idea is super cool and they can probably just nerf it so any entity that is not the player cannot combine reduce lifetime and cessation to get the infinite disappearing effect and just make a bunch of exceptions for other op combinations, it's not like they haven't done it before
What happens if return or swapper or home ringer are used while cessationed? Also, I think this makes saw blades and plasma beams safer to use; another idea is long cessation + nuke or delayed cast nuke so even if you don’t have explosion immunity you won’t take damage… also, I wonder if there are any uses with cessation and giving enemies wands to hold
Thank you dunkorslam! I just got my first Noita win thanks to your help in your content, 118 hours in and a got a W 😎 Now to workout how to get to parallel worlds.
He mentions perk duping at 11:51. I believe it's exactly like polymorphing, in that Skoude does show up, and there's 50% chance of it being permanent in parallel worlds.
Skoude still shows up. However, instead of polymorphing and being vulnerable, since you just disappear, you come back with all your perks as a mage and are relatively safe by comparison. Way way easier to use than poly.
Keep posting! Even all the stuff I've already figured out makes interesting content. Also bring the stream to RU-vid at the same time as twitch. Do iiiit
dude you should read noita lore if there is any i would totally listen to that falling asleep also btw, thanks for the accurate nonclickbaity title cheers!
Does the spell work on the player when used from inside a hollow egg trigger? If so could you use it to instantly remove a polly effect in a similar defensive manner to holding an egg with circle of shielding, or would it count as status effect like the heartbreak effect and extend it instead? I am presuming it wouldn't work at all as the egg would count as the caster and not the player?
@@Smoth48 Didn't think it would as it specifies the caster in the spell description, which would techincally be the triggering spell (egg or other), and those get consumed or destroyed when the payload fires. Thanks for confirming though.
No, that's incorrect. The triggers don't count as casters because they don't cast spells to begin with. The word "caster" refers to an entity that actually cast the wand. All spells are cast instantly, triggers release _payload_ and the payload is _added to them by spells_ . You're not shooting a gun that releases a bullet that loads and shoots another gun. You're shooting a gun that releases a bullet that has another bullet inside of it which gets released on condition (collision / death / timer)
Ok Dunk, I've got a doozy for you. I hope you're sitting down, because this one is for real. I know you bring an element of sarcasm and humor to your Twitch and You-tube videos, claiming you're a God-Gamer which we all appreciate, and I know you enjoy saying. Don't get me wrong; you've shown that you've earned it. While that's all well and good, in you tenure as a Noita professional, I feel like I'm not alone when I say that at this point in your career; You not only deserve a challenge worthy of (A) God-Gamer, but a challenge worthy of (THE ONE TRUE) God-Gamer. I'm very aware of how challenging Noita is, and how unforgiving it can be. It was only because of your content and guidance that I was able to achieve my first win, so long ago. That being said, I know my place... Here's the challenge; No hit, no holy-mountain, pacifist sun quest. There is no time limit, use as many exploits as you want, and you can even use a seeded run. An achievement only begotten by the One True God-Gamer. I'm sure you're aware there are many more stipulations I could have added, but I feel this should be challenging enough. To my knowledge, no one has ever even attempted this run. I honestly believe you should attempt this one in private and not even stream or post about it until completion. I'm aware that you're probably not up to such a monumental task. But wouldn't it be a sight to behold. May sweat rain down from the heavens, leaving us all moist and squishin in our britches. Amen.
I'm wondering if it's possible to cast Cessation at the same moment a fungal shift happens, so we can dodge the your reality as shifted debuff and the 5 min cooldown on fungal shifts
is the fungal shift "timer" tied to the character or the world itself? like you eat the fungus and after 2-3 seconds the shift happens, if those 2-3 seconds are tied to your character then cessation probably just pauses the timer so you can't really skip it since the debuff happens when the timer runs out, but if they are not then I can see this working
@@rajkanishuI would guess it's a world trigger, that only activates after the player has a "trippin balls" status effect that would last more than 185s (and has a 5 minute cooldown) So in that case cessation wouldn't matter
And now the question... Is this a feature or a bug? But this is very interesting! This would be pretty cool way to use this spell if they keep it in game...
it feels like a bug due to the way the spell works, but it could be left in as a "feature" since it isn't that overpowered. It just makes the heartmage trick slightly lenient. The risk is still very real, and I'd argue it's increased since some players will try to find hearts at absurdly low hp using cessation instead of luring the mage near a heart.
I wonder what you could do with the logic spells here... maybe set up a wand so that it alternates between a heavy damage spell and divide-by-cessation, making you rapidly blip in and out and announcing every reappearance with a lightning bolt or some shit. Could be a neat strategy against those damage reflecting bosses you mentioned because you wouldn't even need to swap your wands mid fight.
Late comment, but I hope you're feeling good and honourable. Challenge: Finish a normal new game with only one restraint. You have to employ Disc Projectiles in your main wand as soon as you come across them (wands, shops, etc.). Everything else (like modifiers etc.) is perfectly fine. Show us your utter skill in Noita physics, please!
Yea I feel like the heart mage specifically will get patched, but maybe not, you do have to jump through some hoops to get cessation. Even if it's not that complicated. Plus it's a single player game so who knows. Thanks for the video! Any chance we could get the 100% progress run sometime? I imagine it'd probably take a bit of editing but I'd love to have it permanently up here on youtube. :)
Just spitballing ideas, I wonder if it has a strange effect with tele bolts? like if you teleport but the game cant find your character to move? I wonder if it would be a great teleport build if you could time it right, keep you in the no realm until the telebolt is done.
I love the way he pronounces Noita. Noita, even... It's actually pronounced Noita just look at how it's spelled and sound it out. Noita... Hi I'm high... 👋🏼
I haven't been playing Noita in a while, but wasn't there something similar to Heartache but for elemental immunity as well? I would assume the Cessation trick to refresh the timer would affect that as well.
When you hit them, you take whatever damage you hit them with. Even through ambrosia. Hit the boss for 10 damage? You take 10 damage. 1-shot the boss with 100k damage? RIP your extra life perk.
Rock boss also matches your max hp, and actually sets your HP to his. That means that if you both start at 3k HP, you do 1k damage to him, heal to full, hit him for another 1k, your HP plummets to 1k to match his immediately. And if he dies, you also die. Cessation or a +1 life perk or Saving Grace are mandatory for that fight. When you kill him, 3 wand ghosts spawn so you need to make sure you don't die to them after surviving the boss. Deer boss you can actually heal through but he likely has a lot more max HP than you to start, plus he has slow orb attacks that deal a ton of damage if they hit and many indestructible ghosts (that still block non-piercing projectiles) surrounding him that do contact damage, unlike the rock who has no attacks and just an anti-ambrosia aura. Lost my giga run the other day to the deer boss by clicking my tele wand instead of my cessation wand after firing the damage wand at him. 🥲
Using Liquid Vacuum Field or a similar spell would probably be safer, since accidentally teleporting into poly or lava is really the only major danger teleportation, and cessation would save you if you teleport in the middle of one of those.
Edit: Nvm, you can use Divide By directly, but Cessation still stops you from teleporting for the duration you don't exist, so I think it'd still slow down the teleport speed a lot.
it is quite powerful but if you want to abuse it you still need to go look for a heart at very low HP, while remembering to cast cessation at regular intervals which also might not have infinite casts yet so you risk running out, all while dealing with eventual enemies and juggling wands for damage/digging, you could use ambrosia to not be so vulnerable at low health but because it removes the stain you need to reapply it every time and that's one more thing to juggle and it also eventually runs out in ideal circumstances so if you have infinite casts and no enemies to worry about it essentially replaces the process of "escorting" the heart mage close to a heart but is that really easier/more convenient than just doing it normally? considering the places where you usually do the trick have both easy to find mages and hearts? idk it doesn't sound nerf worthy to me, it's probably fine as is I have nowhere near the knowledge or experience Dunk has so if anything I said is wrong/outdated or I am missing something like some spell combinations or modifiers that make this too broken then by all means feel free to correct me
Do you have a video about the Greek letters in general? They’re pretty self-explanatory but I don’t really understand how modifiers and multicasts interact with them.
Modifiers and multicasts should be applied to the Greek letter itself, *not* the spell that is being copied. Example: Speedup, Gamma, Blackhole, in that order. The speedup applies to the gamma in this case, which is copying the blackhole.
@@Smoth48 the difficulty I have with that is when I use alpha, I can’t tell what it counts as the first ‘spell’ because modifiers are spells but it doesn’t proc those ones. I can usually get the effect I want but I can’t really tell why
this timer reset was already abused via reloading the game which does the same thing, didn't know about this until seeing a streamer do it. i wonder what hidden uses this spell has.
I won the game and got outside of the "gold kill sone" and was trying to kill myself using cast random spell and cast random modifier spell and cast random static spell. And with my luck, I end up casting reduce life time and cessation... thus I literally went from I won the game to I lost the game as you need to die to win, and I end up removing myself from the game forever so I can't die...
I want to use cessation it a teleport wand. Seems like it would reduce the threat of damage while travling around if you have a long range teleport. Or even using a big scary aoe spell that can harm player.
Can cessation in an egg be used as the new polymorph protection? Are you still considered the caster if you’re polymorphed and if yes then does poly count down while in the void dimension?
I think its not... Heartbreak effect applies only by getting hit by this mage, and cessation resets time to the begining timer... I think its just remembered which effect was on you, but not the timer of this effect, and applies default timer But I know how to get A LOT of polymorf ammunity if you curious... Furyforged didnt make a video about it, but he answered my how he get that much poly ammunity
Pretty sure you do actually reappear eventually. I just takes a long-ass time. Like 10 whole minutes of doing nothing because your character doesn't exist.
Really? Heartmages never kill themselves with a TP wand in my runs except if there's fire everywhere (just don't go near fire or put it out with eyeball laser).
@@ale_wlv oh I ALWAYS clear out the area so it's enemy free. Just me and the heartmage. He follows me with Telebolt and I kick it out of his hands when we arrive.
