I kinda wished we could've seen his reaction when he figures out that he can pick those things up and that they have a big impact on how the game is played XD
My personal Game of The Year last year when it came out of Early Access. If you're into rougelites or action platformers or games with a lot of chaotic elements in them, buy it. You won't regret.
@@galling2052 Unless there are changes in the release version, not really. There are some minor unlockable spells and a list of enemies and spells you've discovered and that you can fill in. Most of the run-to-run progression is about you learning the mechanics of the game, learning how the map is laid out and discovering neat stuff.
@@galling2052 Not really. They now show you what you have discovered on spells, perks and monsters but the only "unlockables" are secrets to be found that give something on the first time. Its more rogue-like than lite, no permanent unlocks to increase your power in that sense.
Heikko haulikkohiisi roughly translates as "Weak/poorly shotgun goblin". Hiisis are not exactly goblins, but are often translated as such. I'd argue the hiisi are actually more like gremlins, but they "haunt" natural features rather than technological devices.
Most of the game is about chaining wand combos in ways that break it, like instant autofire. Gunpowder mostly just fizzles. Coal isn't flammable. Dust meh. Fireball won't hurt the imp. Pour water on them from a potion, or slime which you had. Removes acid too. Slime makes you resistant to fire. Stay wet most of the time to resist fire. Those doritos bags are MASSIVELY explosive barrels. Pure death. Kick them away. Fire won't so much against stuff in water. kicking objects into enemies can be super effective. Blood increases your crit chance.
Coal is actually flammable, it's the coal veins that aren't. Water removes toxic sludge, not acid, although a lot of newbies get those mixed up since they're similar and acid is uncommon.
Oh yes you have to die many times to learn, basically everything can kill you. I’ve learned the perk fire immunity is your best friend along with explosion immunity. Even with those it’s very easy to die still though. I’ve always wanted powder game to become a full fledged RPG and they gave us that exact thing. 👌❤️
I really liked this video. Splatty was super adorable playing Noita for the first time. The perfect representation how it feels to play it for the first time. Hope we see a sequel!
i want him to continue playing. learning how to protect himself from the dangers, and about the perks, because its free to take perks and you get super powerfull with the perks .he needs to play now, knowing all this stuff .i
I've always found it surprising to never see you covering this game, because it seems to play very much into your style! Cool to finally see it, still :)
"This is a game about barely controlled chaos and dying in humorous ways" Hehe that's the kind of things that put me in a good mood. Thanks for the video Splatt', the entertainment purpose is successfully fulfilled.
The game is great because you dont have a tutorial explaining everything. You learn on the run and its really fun. Btw the secrets in this game are incredibly well hidden. And the people who found them? How the hell do they think of searching like that. Its amazing tbh.
@@ChaoticNeutralMatt tbh, there are some easy ones to find with a bit of persistance. But some are just a few pieces of text written in runes hidden kilometers under the surface and ind dark letters, etc. And thats not a joke, theres some hidden lore that if you arent a secret explorer fan you wouldnt find ever. The easy ones, i mean the furst time i played i literally went straight into one in less than 2 minutes. But ive played like 700 or 800 runs and have found just a fraction of them.
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite games. Apparently, I've put more time into it than anything on Steam. I've been playing for two years and I finally feel like I'm getting good. There's so much depth and nuance to this game. And yes, luck.
DUDE, I bought this game as soon as I could and it has developed SO much during that time, everytime I played it they added something new and it always felt fresh and exciting! Nice job!
I recently found your channel, and realized that I should see if you'd played Noita! It's one of my top three games of the decade, no lie. I'd love to know if you kept playing it, and what your thoughts are now that the game has matured - a 2021 video on it would be amazing. :)
16:52 Yes, it is Finnish. It means "weak shotgun-goblin". Also the name of the game "Noita" means "Witch". There are many more Finnish words all around the game.
8:11 I'm pretty sure that fireball did literally 0 damage, as that was a fire elemental kind of enemy who was literally on fire, and I saw no numbers pop up too.
@16:47 Heikko haulikkohiisi means weak shotgun hiisi... what's hiisi? short version = evil or mischievous spirit. Long version: Hiisi used to be a sacred place to worship the old gods of Finland (or spirits, like spirit of the lake or spirit of the forest [even now, year 2020 almost every Finn know of sauna spirit, and a lot of people thank him/her/it, after sauna]). Then christians came and placed their churches on these sacred places, and told everyone that Hiisi = demon. And now, few century later, everyone thinks hiisi = demon or evil spirit Also, if you had problems to say the letter S as a child, everyone told you to say "Vesihiisi sihisi hississä"... i think the english equivalent is "she sells seashells by the seashore"
Really thought this sounded like yet another metroidvania-esque action game, but it actually looks pretty fun. Good thing Splat is a fun dude, I probably would've skipped this on other LP channels I watch.
Always called the "intentionally obtuse"-thing "buying creamed corn." Imagine someone says they're going to the store, asks if you want them to pick something up. You say "corn." You meant fresh corn on the cob. If they bring that, golden. If they bring frozen corn, that's one step removed, but there are plenty of possible explanations. Maybe the store was out of fresh. Maybe their family ate a lot of frozen corn. Whatever; it was probably a good faith substitution. Now imagine they picked up canned corn. It's roughly equivalent; depending on their family, it would be perfectly legitimate to suggest that was a good faith substitution. Now imagine they picked up a can of creamed corn. That's two steps removed. Now, explanations exist - it's possible, for instance, they went for canned corn and grabbed the wrong can. If that's the case, they'll probably tell you. But the result is so far from what you'd put out there that you will feel like it's an intentional, bad faith interpretation. It probably is, but you can't necessarily prove it. Either way, it's a pretty drastic misinterpretation, and it probably won't help you at all.
I love this game. Half of my runs don't get past the first floor. Too much fun just fuckin' around. Edit: 21:46 Duuuude! The perks are free, pick one! Edit 2: 26:55 Duuuude! Perks! Duuuuuuuuuude! You only spend money to try and get a better set to choose from!
This game is totally insane in the most fun way. I'm 3 hours in and I still barely know what's happening but I'm loving it. It's like Spelunky for people who also want to watch the world burn.
This had to be on of my favorite games to explore and learn the mechanics of. Truly full of things to find. Another beauty of this game is that the world exists with or without you, some enemies will fight, maybe hitting an explosive barrel, maybe just killing the enemy and leaving a pool of blood for the player to find. One of my favorite memories was on a run (~60 hours in) the hisii base was GONE because one of the wands that was picked up on the level had the holy hand grenade on it. This was one of few times I've made it there successfully and oml was I confused when I found it!
Aiight buddy, another amazing pixel game I've never seen before that you brought to my attention. I'ma sucker for these, looks like I gotta subscribe now. RU-vid recommendations doing it right lately.
Hey man you should really check out Barotrauma, its a good upcoming submarine type title, it kinda reminds me of your old sunless sea type videos. As soon as I saw someone playing Barotrauma I came back to your channel to check if you had played it
Ah yes, dousing oneself with polymorphine. The joys of playing a new game blind wherein you inflict one of the worst debuffs you can have on yourself with sheer ignorant, innocent bliss.
Kid Chameleon reference! Would love to see a reboot of that game. 16:20 the dickwand gets you screwed... sorry, had to. Nice-looking game, though. I can see a lot of rage quits.
As i played the game by myself o know that Noita is hard, but SplatterCat sucks playing it real hard this time, be it with not picking perks, or that one moment with random pool or sludge next to the explosive box and saying "oh, so it's like box of poison" XD
Noita tip number one.......ALWAYS, ALWAYS grab a perk. They are free and change the game in massive ways. tip number 2.....................Wand customisation is the key to the win and the most fun. ( You will die though, till you know what spells do what) :) tip number 3....... Just keep playing. Through experience comes wisdom. (For faster learning watch SimoSimo youtube vids :) ) ENJOY :)
