This isn't the original.. Dean Dillon wrote this song in 1980 and offered it to George Strait who turned it down. David Allen Coe was the first to record the song in 1981 and then George Jones in 1983. The song never hit the charts until Chris Stapleton's bluesey cover in 2015.
