Great video! Thank you for making it. I am an AAP FTM and co-host a podcast called Transparency, where we discuss the gender dysphoria distinct from the ideological stuff. Would you be interested in being a guest?

That’s so good to hear. I honestly nearly deleted this video because I was afraid people would misinterpret some of the things I said and run with it.

Beautifully expressed! It has got me wondering, though. If Blanchard's theory is about a misdirected sex drive, then why do you have all of these other aspects to it, including your natural affinity with male bonding and communication style? Have you given that any thought? I'd be very interested to hear your personal take on it. You look great, by the way!

Honestly, I think about that part a lot. I tend to think Blanchard was a sexologist, so he looked at the world from a sexologist’s point of view. So, of course, he would see this as a sexual phenomenon and (probably) have less interest in its other manifestations. At the same time, I’ve listened to interviews with Blanchard, and he sounds like a very thorough and scientifically-minded individual. Probably didn’t just dream this up one evening for the heck of it. At the same time, looks can be deceiving. So who knows? And then there’s the social zeitgeist of previous decades- the long-held notion that homosexuality was bad, so much of the transgender therapies were designed to “fix” occurrences of homosexuality. Was that affecting attitudes and research done in previous generations? And how did autogynephilia/autoandrophilia (AGP/AAP) fit into all that? One thought experiment I’ve been playing with lately is to ask myself- if gender were purely physical, and there were no social assumptions whatsoever made toward either gender, would I still wish I was a man? Yes, but perhaps not as strongly. So, yeah. That’s a great question, and I have no idea how to answer it. I do know that the many non-sexual transgender aspects of my personality caused me to spend a considerable amount of time convinced that AAP couldn’t possibly be the answer to my questions. But, when I take a step back from everything else and look solely at whether the sexual aspect is present, then consider it as a yes/no kind of question, AAP immediately becomes a very obvious explanation. Right now my best thoughts on the matter are that AAP/AGP are way more complicated than people want to think they are.

First of all, this is an interesting video. ive only ever heard of autogynophelia in the context of people invalidating trans women. I guess i assumed that these concepts were inherently outdated, like you said, because trans folks are really quick to say "no, actually we're not autogyno/androphiles, its nothing to do with that." I think it stems from that feeling of wanting to appear respectable because thats the only way cis people will accept you. Even though its not so clear, and you could be a cis autoandrophile or a trans one. But i find it strange how youre quick to say non binary people can be annoying, or ask for too much. It may feel clunkly or unnatural to use neopronouns, for example, but you get used to it - the same way you get used to remembering people's unique names. And NB gender being vague isnt inherently bad. I dont think it inhibits communication- its an umberella term that works in reference to existing social categories of man and woman. The specifics of someones experience may be hard to grasp or articulate, but that doesnt make them less real. And there are specific non binary terms too-- e.g. someone who is bigender may be equally both genders, thats pretyy clear to me Again, someone could easily turn around to your experience of autoandrophilia and say it is incomprehensible. Because i dont think you quite understand what its like to be NB (thats not bad), you assume it is ill defined and almost made up, but just think to the people who dont understand you, who do assume youre some fetishist, or delusional- or trans. Same thing, in my view.

YOU are a beautiful creature. You have provided the most concise and reasonable critique of nonbinary I have heard. Its like you said- its borderless, definitionless, but yet, it asks a lot of everyone, generally speaking. To me, its the frontier of poetmodernism, which ultimately breaks down everything, all tradition, definitions, ideas, and doesnt really offer anything substantive to replace them with. It IS chaos, and seems to expect so much of others, which basically comes down to expecting them to simply accept the chaos. They frequently confuse the transgender debate and politically, probably eed to take a backseat to transsexuals that need medical treatment to handle dysphoria. Because again, a crazy amount of ENBYs claim to not have dysphoria... I'll just stop there. I have experienced autogynephilia in my life. I dont agree with the understanding of the definition that s lot of people seem to take out of it, but Im ultimately glad it exists, because it is at least an explanatory tool that recognizes the unique phenmena that many experience, AAP included. Its true, AGP and AAP have sexual components...guess what? Everything in society and human interaction does! Do you think strip clubs and Hooters and NFL cheerleaders are catering to an audience of sexless individuals? Nope! But the coneptualized sexualities of 'normal' people are not scrutinized like AAPs and AGPs. No one is entitled to know our sexual desires any more than any normies! For me, my AGP I think provides explanatory power regarding sexuality in general, in that sexuality is not the simple object-subject relationship that its classically posited to be. Its nuanced in ways that I don t think are quantified. I think our conceptions of ourselves as sexual beings plays into our ability to partner-up and dance the dance of all dances in ways that atr not fully appreciated. I think AGP (and perhaps AAP?) is simply an evident phrnomena arising out of the fact that my psyche for whatever reason, has to recognize myself a sexually desirable woman, on order for me feel confident and satisfied in being sexual with others. That confidence that comes with living as a high value woman permeates all of the other areas of.my life, and helos my other dyphoria retreat.

@@wilburshumanthank you. I've posted similar comments before on YT, and you have given me more grace and praise than anyone, by a mile. Usually I am called a delusional man and a narcissistic pervert. Which as Oak Leaves says...you don't know enough about me to make that judgment! AGP did not 'make me' transition. It was the strongest and most pervading symptom of my extreme gender dysphoria, that made it impossible to connect with people because I had to wear the mask of a 'man' on a daily basis in order to not lose.my mind. AGP for me was the crushing desire to dress and look like other girls, and have my femininity valued and appreciated. The fact that I was born a male pretty much destroyed these dreams, and for two decades, basically left me interpersonally unfulfilled in everything from friendship to sex. I lost my virginity in my 30s, by choice, which was as unsatisfying as I could've imagined- sticking it into someone was enough to send me into a major depression, it never felt good, and it always felt wrong, and it always felt hopeless.

I don't think that's a criticism of non binary gender. Just a statement of fact. It's borderless and vague, and that's kinds the point. It's chaotic and confusing to many.. think about these neopronouns and things like 'cloudgender' or xenogenders which seem bizarre from the outside. The point, if there is one, is to accept the variety of human experience. I say this an an enby, with gender dysphoria, it doesn't take away from the debate to acknowledge beyond the black and white experiences.

You come off as a marginally intelligent and certainly a mature person. I'm sure everyone here loves your video essays. Might I suggest you stop projecting your personal expectations onto others and demanding that everyone conform to narrow labels and definitions? There is just as much validity to the world of interpersonal nuance and the subtle and subversive elements of expression as there is in the mastery of language in an academic sense. People should be free to express themselves as they wish without being harassed or harshly judged. Invalidating something because it is "new", because it annoys the status quo, because it does not fit the narrow definitions of existing words/ideas is the height of ignorance. It reeks of bigotry. It is a cultural shift in people's attitudes towards gender and personal expression that is necessary. What has appeasement ever gotten anyone? Have you ever thought that perhaps the world is moving too fast for you to keep up and you are simply reacting to it? Thanks so much.
