There's an AoS story where a blind daemon prince of khorne conquers a chunk of Neferata's territory and decides to build it into his ideal society to spite her...and he ends up basically making a weirdly ordered capitalist city, gaining power off of the competition between merchants, overseeing the courts (trial by combat of course) and it kinda leaves it ambiguous if life under khorne is really that much worse than living under vampire rule.

He just wants war and death and slaughter. You always know where Khorne stands. The others, especially Tzeentch, just want to fuck with your head before eventually taking your soul.

Last time I checked, the ones who would actual city management are usually the Slaanesh and Tzeentch followers. And Khorne is not just the God of Combat but the God of Slaughter. Khorne will like the sight of weaker tribes being massacred by stronger tribes. But he disdains acts like trickery and backstabbing.

Her voice lines in game represent the old one though. Like she yells about how Khorne remembers those who sacrifice in his name, to not fear death because of this, etc

To paraphrase a bit from the old lore, "Khorne does not care from which the blood flows, but demands only the skulls of the worthy." Valkia wasn't any less evil, but she did show that not all devotees of Khorne were into simple slaughter.

It’s a word the author chose to use in Valkia’s book instead of queen. Basically “head woman” or chief lady.

We have absolutely no evidence that shieldmaidens existed. Judith Jesch one of the world’s premier experts on women in the Viking age if not the premier expert disagrees completely with the notion considering what gender roles and honor meant in Norse society. Crossing genders is not something you did in ancient Norse society unless you wanted to be known as ergi or orgi which would mean your honor is shattered and you couldn’t enter the after life with the gods.

The truth is we have very little evidence, none of their enemies noted it, and the only written source on shieldmaidens specifically comes a guy who admitted to inventing them for his stories to defame old Norse society. The fact is there is very little difference between Anglo-Saxon societies and old Norse ones and that’s because both came ancestrally from Scandinavia and both places value on the same things, and neither where women highly valued as warriors, the only written source we have on a Shieldmaiden is the Anglo-Saxon Queen of Mercia her name escapes me at the moment but she was King Alfred’s daughter and the Mercians loved her because she lead them to victory after victory alongside her brother who was king of Wessex. Her and his skills at war have more to do with the success and foundations their father laid down though as King Alfred revolutionized Saxon society and placed a major importance on education amongst Wessex’s people and in fact was the best place in Northern Europe for both men and Women to live until it was conquered by the Normans in 1066.

They are quite prevailent in Norse myths, which is what all of this is based on, so whether some old grave out of thousands does in fact contain a lady shouldn't matter - but my god does it matter to some people.
