May I suggest that you watch a live version of Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live is the best version) or listen to the studio version. Mark Knopfler, who wrote Going Home specifically for a film that takes place in Scotland, is generally considered one of the top five guitarists of all time and is about as far away from "elevator music" as you can possibly get.

If this is your first exposure to Mark Knopfler (best known by many people as leader of the band Dire Straits), you're very late to the party. He's a fantastic guitarist and songwriter. There are many great Dire Straits classics but also a very diverse collection in his solo career. This is somewhat amateurish early video/trailer from the "Local Hero" soundtrack, its rousing theme that plays at the very end of the movie as the credits are rolling. It's a light, quirky film but also has some genuine emotion and a more serious message to it. A film well worth seeing.

My mom was a HUGE fan of Local Hero … she had the soundtrack on vinyl when I was a kid. I remember skipping the needle to the last 3 minutes repeatedly and dancing to it. No disrespect to Mark Knopfler, this soundtrack is sadly elevatory except for the jazzy last bit. I think the invention of the synthesizer kind of sent musicians crazy in the early 1980s, not in a good way. Local Hero is kind of an indie/arthouse film about a couple oil representatives sent to a remote Scottish village to negotiate offshore drilling rights. The woman in the foot kissing scene is actually a mermaid (for real) who is trying to protect the ocean by seducing one of the oil reps and convincing him to trash the deal. Hence the foot fetish since they’re new to her or something. :) The mermaid is kind of a side plot thread, though; the main plot is about the other oil guy falling in love with Scotland and deciding to give up oiling and move there. I’m with you, man, please no and no thank you to feet.
