SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners.
The Nordhavn 56 beautifully marries the potential to sail forever with a main engine power plant engineered by the passage making trawler leaders at PAE/Nordhavn. NordSail One is the first of this series and led the charge that resulted in a further seven hulls to follow. She is more properly defined as a #TrawlerSailer - an elegant long range cruising sailboat equipped with a spacious engine room that boasts diesel propulsion from her reliable Lugger main engine.
If NordSail One looks familiar, she is. JMYS created an original listing video that was released in 2017. Since time was limited on this current listing agreement, we used quality unused footage from that original video to piece together this “Talk View Tour” of NordSail One.
As the owner of NordSail One, you will have a variety of underway options to enjoy the journey with easily furled sails and possibly the most efficient engine package ever installed on a sailing yacht. Inside, her two staterooms and living areas are not only beautifully crafted with varnished teak and granite countertops, but also incredibly space efficient. My favorite lady. In my opinion she's the best single handed ocean Voyager ever made. Well appointed and such clean rigging. Once you see the efficiency of the propeller, you'll wonder how you got by without one. Just a real peach. Jeff's favorite I'm sure. Cheers.

Wonderful boat. Best of both world. When it's not underway, the guest cabin would be as comfortable as the master. It's literally the equivalence of a two-bedroom luxurious apartment with ever-changing ocean-view.

What a wonderful sailing motor yacht. The best of both worlds. Thanks for the tour Jeff. By the way, thanks to your channel I am now the proud owner of two Reyn Spooner shirts. Someone ragged on your shirt and you kindly set him straight giving me the idea to try a couple out. Very happy with the quality/fit and looks. I’m guessing others did the same thing.

Is the market for such a famous boat not existing or does Nordhavn focus on their new (pure motor-) trawlers only. They started with sailing boats in the late 70 is´nt it? Olli: Hard to understand the market. Motorsailers have always been difficult to promote, not fully sail or power. Nordhavn just signed a contract for a new build MS56 so maybe they will take off again. The timing for the original introduction unfortunately coincided with the Global Financial Crisis and literally took the wind out of the sails from this magnificent design.

@Robert Mandiberg actually you can own any property in the Philippines when you purchase as a corporation. But yes in general a non national may only purchase condos and co-ops.

Kiwimon: Yes, open trans oceanic range. You can shorten sail or power sail in rougher seas.

EAA: I'm not familiar with Z bows, the sail plan provides stability. Many Nordhavns have solar power.

Realistically how fast can you sail without power given the weight of the boat? maybe 1/4 of true wind speed maximum? I would imagine it works best running the engine on low revs and the sail adding a few knots?

Mark: It's a physics/math equation based on waterline. More wind, reduce sail to keep her upright and going forward, not much leeway. Surfing down a wave, very fast. If you target a speed average of 7 to 8 knots I think you would be fine. Sail with the adjustable propeller is another bonus on this design, you can balance sails and engine for optimum performance.

@@JeffMerrillYachts Thanks Jeff. I'm suprised 7 or 8 knots would be posible under sail alone. Nordhavn should make more of this and it might increase the MS popularity. Appreciate your videos. I will be in the market for a boat in the next few years so will be keeping an eye on what you are selling.

The engine room is the only thing that gets me in a motor sailer. You cant get to anything. I love the motor/sailer idea, but why does the engine room have to be tucked away in a closet?

Frank: Respectfully disagree, compared to any / most sail boats this is actually an engine room, not a closet. For the size, I don't know any other sailboats under 70' with better access in the engine room.

@@JeffMerrillYachts i agree on that, its just to have a sail so much has to be given up. Its not worth it, just stay with a NH-56 and forget the sail. Your comparison logic seems to portray a ‘Sailing’ person wanting a engine, where as, I want a trawler, with its spacious engine room, that also has a sail

I'm not sure I agree, they are so different. The 56 is an offshore, ocean crossing monohull sailboat - with an exceptional diesel propulsion package that has amazing range. Are you suggesting a 42' sailboat or 42' catamaran that is an alternative to the motorsailer?

Steve: The rig would be a problem with bridges. Sailboats do the Loop, have to take out the mast more than once which is a bit of a production, but it is possible, just not a practical as on a power boat.

To build a hinge for the mast isn't that hard. Takes a bit of money and engineering but it can been done and with the new rigging on the market it is getting even easier.
