Nordic Walking is a popular exercise for people living with Parkinson’s. This video is the second in a series of three which will talk you through some exercises designed especially to help people living with Parkinson’s. You should already have completed our warm-up exercise video and can look forward to some cool-down exercises to end your work-out. You are welcome to go for your own Nordic Walk for a duration of your own choosing at the end of this video. Don’t forget to have suitable shoes and warm, waterproof clothing to hand if you are venturing out.
Exercise is not without its risks. As with any exercise program, if at any point during your workout you begin to feel faint, dizzy or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately. If necessary you should consult with your doctor or relevant medical professional before undertaking this exercise programme. You are also welcome to pause the video at any point if you start to feel tired or need a drink of water.
These exercises are safe to do indoors - just make sure you have plenty of space for your poles. Some of the exercises are suitable to do seated so do have a chair nearby if you think that your balance needs it.
The exercises are all based on those taught within the INWA (International Nordic Walking Federation) method and have been adapted as appropriate for people living with Parkinson’s by instructors experienced of working with this group.
