My mom worked and had international conferences, took me and dad along. You bet your ass dad and I kicked it in coach while mom rode 1st class. She was working on the trip, it was her company paying, so she got 1st every time.

I mean, I agree with NL here. I would've given up the seat, because it's just a fucking more comfy seat on a 2 hour flight; and if it means I get to make the woman I love enough to marry happy, then all the better. With that said, the wife needs to chill a bit. Like lady, it's just a seat for 2 hours. Or maybe, just sit in coach together if you care so much about fairness. Man, it must be nice to have so few problems in your life, that this is actually an issue worth talking to reddit about.

seems like a weird situation. I think I agree with NL that it doesn't really belong on AITA. I mean, common decency is to NOT make someone feel like shit so that you get what you want, but in an isolated incident between a couple that I don't know anything about... idk maybe the more sane individual just takes the L and it doesn't really mean anything. Could be indicative of a selfish partnership, or it could not. I do think the whole "gentleman" talk was stupid though, but only because I don't like gender norms. Just seems like another excuse to get what she wanted, like with the finances, work trip, etc.

I think NL is mixing 2 separate issues here. The OP is asking AITA for this situation, which I think most people would agree yes, taking the husband's first class seat is kind of an asshole move. NL's argument, that the husband is an asshole and could have handled the situation better, while still true, is not within the scope of this post. This is an "Am I The Asshole" post, not "Is My Husband The Asshole".

The thing I took away from this is that, presumably, a lot of people in that first-class were coworkers of this guy. If it was a prestigious and fairly exclusive honor, as the post from the wife makes it sound, maybe even mostly higher-ups at the company. To potentially lose the networking opportunity just so that your wife could have ~two hours of 3" more legroom, a 50¢ ice cream, and to get boarded first is what's appalling to me. Who you know is how you get career advancements, always will be, and you should try to put yourself into as many opportunities as you can to meet whoever is on a rung higher in the ladder than you are to make an impression. But whatever beta-males stay losing, sigma grindset to the moon, lololol.
