Norway's Most Beautiful Roads to Ride | Ep.4 VALLEYS

There are valleys and then there are Norwegian valleys. You won't find many countries in the world with so many incredible valleys to cycle down. In this video we focus on what I like to call 'natural corridors'. These valleys slice through a mountain range like Moses opening up the Red Sea. They're usually pretty flat and a great way to get through a mountainous region without requiring big climbs. This is my top five.

If ever you fancy a change of job I’m sure that the Norwegian tourist board will be more than willing to take you on! Not only do I greatly appreciate your videos, but I also appreciate the effort that you put into your narrative. Another great video, cheers 👍

Thanks Tony, the narration takes the longest time. There is usually three or four drafts before I'm satisfied. So good to hear!

Unlike most videos on U-tube that are filled with the makers face most of the time, yours show the scenery most of the time and with a lot of information. Thanks for that.

Can't argue with no. 1, and the fact that it leads to Norway's most spectacular fjord, Hjørundfjorden, makes it even more incredible! I would add INNERDALEN to the list myself.
@larsmunch4536
@larsmunch4536 Год назад
Yes, Innerdalen is extremely beautiful, but the context in this video is, that the valley should be a natural corridor, leading to somewhere. In Innerdalen, you can ride some way in on a road bike, somewhat further on a gravel bike and even further on a mountain bike, but anyway you have to turn around and ride the same way out again.

Thank you for the ideas for my next trip up there. Although I travel on my motorbike the roads we both share and enjoy. Last year I traveled from Oslo to Nordkapp by the the eastern roads and back down through fjords on the west. Next summer I will return and definitely I will not miss these valleys. Norway is really beautiful.

Just wanted to say thanks for your excellent videos on bikepacking in Norway. You've definitely inspired me to try a bikepacking trip next summer. It's really useful to see someone actually showing what to expect from different areas here in Norway! I already look forward to venturing out beyond the Asker/Lillestrøm/Ås triangle. Will recommend your channel to other cyclists here in Oslo :) Cheers!

Small quibble: the "sunn" in "sunnford" is not the modern word sunn = healthy but a der1bation of the Old Norse suðr = southern.(And can be found in the name of the nothrn Scottish region Sutherland, which lies south of the Old Norse posessiond of Orkneys and Shetland.)

The more I see of Norway, most of it on your channel, the more I know it's a place I have ot visit and have to spend a significant amount of time cycling through. A brilliant video and brilliant narration... as always. Does Norway actually have any crap unscenic roads???
@matthewnorway
@matthewnorway 2 года назад
It can get a bit boring cycling through the large forests areas on the east side and around the cities and towns. But once on the open road its eye candy in most areas. Sometimes you can go days without one unscenic road!

Another corker, every time I watch your videos my Google Maps 'places to go in Norway' list gets peppered with more pins. Some will be visited next July though, my Senja trip is in the planning stage and the first and last nights in Tromso are booked. I'm therefore particularly looking forward to your next installment. Will probably find they are all in Lofoten :-)

I agree Lovatnet and Kjenndalen are incredible! However, the valleys in this series are ones you can cycle through without turning around. I call them 'natural corridors'.

No never been to either. I cycled the RV17 up the coast so was close to Glomfjord. It was a bit tricky to get to with the tunnels so I skipped it. But I will try to ride that road next time.
@pandabearguy1
@pandabearguy1 2 года назад
I would assume "Sunndalen" refers to "The South valley" as a native speaker, but I could be wrong. "Sunn" is an old way of saying south. I know atleast that "Sunndalen" means "The South v" or "Valley to the South", and similarly "Sunnfjord" means "South Fjord" etc.
