The dragchute needs special structural reinforcement as well as controlsystems (electronic/hydraulics) for the chute, so it's a feature that must be chosen before producing the aircraft. The chute and it's external fairing can be removed so the plane looks "normal" though. In other words: Norwegian and Dutch F-35A is the same, although only Norway might have installed and currently are using the chute.

@@datshitcry They are in Iceland, not Norway, mainly just protecting the perimiter around the planes. Just in case. And yes the Norwegians have plenty of experience taking ppl out in Afghan, Yemen(now), And other places. Pretty much every place where America goes, some of our troops go aswell.

Originally planned to join miltary when a teenager, alas life took another path. But its funny seeing people in comments show fear to this sorta thing, meanwhile its stuff like this I wish I joined for. Adventure in hazardess areas most people don't get to do. Roger Honacki + Intercepting Russian's, if it was internal it would give them a ELINT signature re Stealth so carried outboard like a normal fighter. Re the camouflage, the paint is part of the Stealth, hence it's not painted over for winter.

To answer your curiosity. Wool... Wool boxers, aclima WoolNet, a layer of wool underwear over the net and then just a normal GoreTex uniform on top. And ofcourse good old fasioned knitted wool socks, if it's extremely cold you might even stack up two pairs as long as you have space in your boots. This will keep you warm in -35 degrees celsius easily, as long as you are in light activity. The guys in the video are probably wearing half of the stuff mentioned. The most important aspects are: not overdressing (if you are sweating you are done for...). Stacking your clothes the right way to keep the hot air moving up as long as possible instead of venting to atmosphere. And enough space between layers, in your boots, in your gloves etc etc to use air pockets as isolation. With these tips you will not freeze your but of anytime soon ;)
@@giorgig4828 No actually not, ironically enough. Couple points on overdressing. 1. If you dress up to the point where you start sweating when doing activities, your likely to go into hypothermia at your next break. If you are warm and comfy when standing still, you are going to be sweating when moving. 2. If you put on everything you have, your layers are going to be tightly compacted thus not leaving any room for the almighty insulating layers of air that you want. 3. (Less relevant as civillians) You can dress to the point where fighting is rather anoying.

How much do those drogue chute pods on the back of Norwegian F-35s affect its stealth and aerodynamics? I'd imagine it be enough that you could tell a Norwegian F-35 from, say, a USAF one even if they had the same external loadout.
I tried looking around and didn't find anything. Apparently it can be easily removed if necessary, and the F35 seems to perform surprisingly well on icy runways. "Our experience operating the F-35 on slippery airfields is that it’s more safe and easier than with the F-16s,” she added. “With the stability of the [F-35] aircraft, it’s easier to take off and land on slippery airfields. … It’s performing extremely well.” From an article about an old problem with the chute.
@@DiviAugusti well, now that just brings up the question on how the RNoAF attaches those pods to their F-35s securely enough that the pod isn't going to fly off when pulling the chute while making sure it's removable.
