Big Spoiler. You've been warned . . . . . . . . . . . . . It's been implied that Frieren is way stronger now than she was when she was travelling with Himmel. She slowed down a lot of her magic development when Flamme died. So she isn't as strong as she should've been. Magic has also improved drastically after the Demon kings death. So the spells and standards of a mage has improved since then. In some of the recent arcs of the manga, she travels back in time by accident. There, it's been noted that her magic is far beyond what mages should be capable of. Her powers only started to grow further alongside Himmel and the crew. If she kept developing at a similar manner for the 80 years after defeating the demon king, it's safe to assume she's well above them at this point. It's the advantage of being practically immortal. That being said, the rest of the Hero Party probably reached incredible heights by the end of their journey.

No.. If fern thought she can make it, then won frieren, well, frieren thought that was impossible, so she (her clone) could guards down to fern but not for frieren. In another words frieren and such her clone will understamet ferns attacks and let her guards down to her. And well with the guards down, fern, for her and don't for frieren opinion, really could make a fatal attack. But not sufficient as we saw. But anyway.

I think it is more bcz of freirin still seeing fren as a kid since she did mention it multiple times that even tho fern is a competent mage, freirin still sees her as the small kid she met years ago

Basically it’s a hint that some folk magic one might not think of can be powerful in the right hands.

Even the flower spell was used by Schraft to make metal petals to shoot and shield him. I have a feeling every spell can be weaponised if you're creative enough.

It isn't that they had to kill the clones necessarily, but they had to stop the clones from reaching the deepest level before Frieren and Fern beat the Frieren clone. Otherwise the clones would swarm Frieren and Fern. Frieren herself said that if the Sense clone got behind them while they were fighting the Frieren clone they would lose and likely die. This involves at minimum occupying them and slowing them down. Killing them would be optimal (before it was known that the clones respawn).

Its fair coming from her, since shes probably among the first gen to ever use magic if not the first mage herself.

But there was indeed a fear within Serie towards humans. Since the beginning we were explained through Eisen and Stark or even Fern, fear is natural. Serie is a wizard who likes war and is a war maniac, this is the same as the relationship between Batman and Joker, Serie wants exclusivity from magic but not just that, he wants to have a worthy "opponent". If you remember the flashback between Flamme, Serie, and Frieren, there Flamme said Frieren was a magician from the era of peace and he would be the one to defeat the Demon King, at that time Serie said "Do you think I'm incapable?", Flamme's answer was "Do you can imagine a peaceful world."

@@lisakulig3140 From the start the audience has been introduced to how a character views fear, even characters like Eisen from the Hero party who defeated the demon king have fear. In this anime, Elves are described as "awkward" characters, especially in understanding themselves. Serie founded the magician's association to make herself look superior to others as well as exert control so that magic develops according to her wishes, that's why from the start she was depicted sitting on a throne. If you understand Japanese well enough you will know, when Serie tells about Flamme to Frieren, Serie uses vocabulary that shows that her heart is actually fragile and she is just trying to appear strong and indifferent on the outside, pretending. Even his final words to Frieren to never stop growing and that the two of them will one day be surpassed show that Serie has fear, looking at the whole conversation, Serie is clearly very afraid of death and directly mentions the possibility of the two of them being killed by a demon wizard or a human. , keep in mind that Serie is a magician who is almost close to the strength of a Goddess, with such big facts Serie shouldn't align herself with Frieren who is clearly weaker than her or even Flamme, that means implicitly she wants to say "we = Elves" someday surpassed and killed (by a demon/human wizarh) if it doesn't develop/growing once again it means that Serie is afraid of death, it also means that Serie is afraid of humans/human wizard.

@@nezumi404 Serie never included herself when she said "If you ever gets killed, it will be by the demon king or by a human mage", she was talking about Frieren specifically. She did said elves would be overtaken by humans, but that is humanity as a whole.. elves are basically in extinction, they wouldn't have the power to fought back against all of humanity If they acquired the Power to use magic. And again, she was NEVER in "fear" about this. She was making her prediction. Serie wouldn't want to train humans and make them even more powerful if she feared they could dethroned and kill her one day. Her only reason for why she was against the idea of teachig magic to others was because she wanted Magic to remain special, not something anyone could use. Only people with talent should be able to use it. If the person has talent, serie doesn't even bother in nurturing a human capable of surpassing her.

Land tries to run away from everything

"Who is that?" That was Ton (the arrogant mage who didn't trust anyone and wanted to complete the dungeon on his own). It's clearer in the Manga, he used his golem when he came up against Wirbel, Scharf and Ehre clones....You see him at the end of the episode carried out.

Nah, he does ask who Edel is because she just came up to him and started bragging about the golem as if it were hers and as if the she and Richter were on talking terms already.

For a second I thought he might have taken a blow to the head and has amnesia. Would've been an interesting way to end the episode.

because sense is the right german pronounciation. noone says zenze unless you have a strong foreign dialekt like we have here with japanese VA's

I had to actually google it because in my brain, "sense" was german only but after seeing the english meaning of the word again, no the pronounciation is a little different. in german, the last "e" in the end is spelled out while the last e in the english word is silent. so in english, you speak "sens" while germans speak "sense". google does pronounce it right, if you are curious. finaly I would also say, that since every name in the show is german origin, Sense will not be the exception here and in german "Sense" means "scythe"

people be forgetting that frieren said she lost 11 times to mages with less mana than her, huh. 11 times, and she didn't even count the defeats to mages with more mana than her or defeats to warriors (if there are any). but I guess it's fine, the anime made a good job of gassing her up in this episode, so people are gonna double down on thinking she's invincible lol.

@@lisakulig3140it also depends on when all the defeats happened. She's much stronger now than she was 80 years ago, for example, because of new spells being developed and her being more experienced

@@nirolf12 but at the same time as she grew stronger, humanity grew up with all these spells too. Like Frieren said, to Fern zoltraak is something normal and her zoltraak is capable of killing even Frieren... If that was frieren instead of a clone, she'd be dead with the injuries the clone received. She would still be able to fuck Fern up, but she would die afterwards from the injuries. Of course, for this too happened Fern needed Frieren herself to distract the clone, but Fern is still a young and inexperienced mage. She's not even the strongest amongst the test takers and she's already able to pull this off.. this should tell the viewers there are people out there capable of beating Frieren.

@@lisakulig3140Every Zoltraak user is capable of killing Frieren if they can land the hit, Fern is nothing special in that regard. Fern is also using the demon-killing version, the original one (that the clone used) is black.

Gravity magic

I believe it has to do with Frieren's specialty. All mages have one, yet we haven't' seen her's yet. It isn't Zoltraak, as it is a young spell and Frieren is much older. When looking at her other interactions, unraveling and altering Zoltraak (soultrack), Dispelling Serie's barrier, later dispelling that certain thing that was deemed the pinnacle, and learning that other's magic ability through sight alone, i believe Frieren's specialty is META magic, the skill to look through spells and magic on a fundamental level that others simply can't. And so i believe 'that" was a magic attack with all the unnecessary bits stripped away. A spell without the spell. As you put it, bending reality. My head-cannon is that Frieren is constructing a demon-killing curse.

Didn't Fern also say she couldn't detect any use of mana?

@@samenatorful oh ya she spent the time since she first encountered "That pinnacle level magic" coming up with a counter and and even managed to learn it . but the reason it was pinnacle level was because it had no limits. visualization was not an issue if you knew the spell. it worked on anything and everything. so what i think pinnacle level is magic that has no restrictions with visualization. Magic that alters the very fabric of reality. Maybe thats magic at its most base and potent form. which most cant even think of using . Maybe that's y normal magic has to rely on spells and visualization. and maybe thats why the clone had no defence up. if it was so hard to pull off whatever form of attack it was using, maybe it just couldent focus on defense while doing so. like normally mages always have defenses up. but to use that kind of power maybe you have to focus solely on that.

Übel was realy the most surprising character in frieren so far. her name implies, that she is a bad person and her introduction does show her sinister side as well. in the end she seems more similar to wirbel: she doesn't realy hesitate to kill opponents just unlike him, she seems to feel entertainment when she is forced to do so. but it doesn't mean, that she goes above and behond to kill someone either. so that is why she was able to emphasise with him so fast, because they are similar in nature. and finaly we got the reason why she killed a mage and got disqualified in the last test. it is not because she did it for funs and giggles, but because the mage in question basicly asked every participant in the test to try it. she was just the first one to succseed

The test forbid you to kill and the tester specifically said that the testy only need to make him take one step back. For someone like Richter, he will probably do something as simple as shake the ground and pass the test. I think it's not all about power but also control over their magic and how the mage use it.

@@mardshima2070 sure there are other ways to force him to move. but we do see, that many mages tried the forcefull approach with simple attack spells. and unless those spells actually produce a force effect on impact that would push behond the mages defence, there is no way this would actually work unless you can penetrate his defence and actually injure the defender. knowing that many testers went with this approach "Burg" didn't forbid them to do this. he still took the real risk of diing, if anyone had a potent attack spell to pierce his defence. Übel just had one of those spells and that worked a little to well for her

​@@mardshima2070 Agree, I think that Burg guy was looking for someone clever enough to solve the problem that can't be solved by brutal force. Something like a really scary illusion may do the trick also, but unlucky for him... at least Übel could and should cut that man on his feet...
