this is fantastic. of all the dozens of calligraphy sites and pages I have gone over these last few years yours is the most EDUCATIONAL and INFORMATIVE. What you are doing here is, to me, what the internet and its YOU TUBE channels is all about. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise with others.

On the question of names, in the eighteenth century the typical oval-based looped handwriting with strongly contrasting thick and thin strokes was called 'roundhand' and in Europe (where it spread in the nineteenth century) it was often called called 'English cursive'. The term 'copperplate' was quite a late term.

That Winter's D is also shaded on the upstroke, which means it was added after the letter was written. But I just realized that Lupfer's letters are also slightly shaded on the upstroke, such as on the C and E.

Thank you Connie, really enjoyed this video and will search out your others. Did wonder what the difference was between Copperplate and Engrossers script. only just turned my hand to pointed pen Calligraphy having practiced for some years in assorted scripts with broad edged nibs, so getting used to pulling and pushing the pen with an oblique holder, applying and releasing pressure, with the paper turned anti- clockwise is quite a challenge for me. Thank you So much, I completely agree with what you said regarding drills and I Love the way you teach, Bless you! :)

can the quality of nibs diminish quickly? I'm using nikko G nibs and 32# paper, I was using graph paper I bought at staples and my nibs seem you get caught and aren't smooth on the 32# paper after using the same nib on the graph paper.

It all depends on how much force you're using on the nib along with the type of paper. Here is a video to tell when to change a nib ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B-novJPrsvE.html

Is that pen you are using designed to slide the round end on the paper? I like your videos and have been studying both the lessons and the pens.

+Thomas Hanson Thank you for your kind words. No the wood portion of the pen does not touch the paper.

No that looks like it's regular dotted paper. Rhodia and Clairefontaine makes 'em. Pretty sure there are others as well.
