We still have two of these licensed for the road. The smaller unit is a 5 ton box truck, and works every day. I believe it’s a 2002, with the 6 cylinder Cat. The other doesn’t see that much work due to the specialized work it does, but it has the higher hp Isuzu engine and it’s a tandem axle. I’ve taken the box truck on some long runs ( stay in hotels on the road) and when you put a load in it, granted it slows it down but the thing rides like a limo. It is well maintained and looks good on the road. ( We are a tv production company). Now I should mention that I’ve owned and driven KW K100 cab over for 35 years, so it’s not a stretch for me to get behind the wheel of that fishbowl on wheels, and it’s pretty austere inside, but we keep it clean and it’s pretty handy in a tight spot. So there you go, one man’s poison, another man’s Neh ! It will do. Our other equipment is long wheelbase tractors pulling 53 foot production trailer, grossing 80k, all over N.A. So not a one horse operation.
We had one of those single axle with a 20 foot flatbed on it with a small rear pedestal crane on it. I don't remember it breaking much, but then again we didn't use it much. It was really handy though when we needed it
I used to haul those and Izusu s into a big reman facility in south Florida to be reconned and they were a pain to load on my step deck(usually some place in an alley in a big city at night), Most of the time with a bad battery or low or no fuel. Luckily, I had a big winch to get them on. They usually were so rusty on the frame rails and battery boxes and air tanks, that the recon place just torched all that off and replaced with pre made up frame sections. Bill
Re badged isuzu 900,but what cat motor did they install for the US/Canada market, aussie isuzus have isuzu engines and gearboxes, cheers from australia 🇦🇺
Re badged Isuzu truck. Worldwide, ( except North America) they are Isuzu trucks. The old SBR cabover Isuzu were great trucks, except underpowered a bit.
These cabovers were a common sight in the early 2000s. I haven't seen one in several years. It seems that they've all gone to the scrap yard. Definitely a "throwaway truck". I think these GMC cabovers are just re badged Isuzus. To be brutally honest, I think most European and Asian cabovers are ugly. I understand why they build them the way they do, but god are they ugly. American cabovers may be outdated and not as efficient as their Euro and Asian counterparts, but they are easier on the eyes. The IH Transtar, Peterbilt 352, Ford CLT 9000, Mack Ultraliner and Freightliner FLA are the best looking cabovers in my opinion.
