NOT The Best :( SOG Aegis AT-XR 

I really appreciate the new design,it's fun looking,the colors pop,and it's a great brand..

I got one for my birthday recently. It seems almost like an assisted Bugout to me. I wish the lanyard hole came straight off the back as more of an attitude adjuster than as a hook to catch your hand. That or just ditch the thing because I’m not huge on lanyards and don’t really need an attitude adjuster on a folder

I like my old digital camo version better. With such a long handle they should have increased the length of the blade.

That safety on top is a deal killer for me.

I bought an old aegis back in 08, 09 ish. It ran me about $80. It's been my beater for many years. It has a slow assist. The blade wiggles every way possible. I lost my thumb stud 6 yrs ago (sog replaced it for free). I can get a crazy sharp edge on it with decent retention. I've batoned with it, thrown it, dropped it, lost it, found it, burned it (grill), used it as a pry tool and screw driver, shaved with it, EDC'd it, food prep with it, fire crafted, and a bunch more. Sog's deep carry clip is awesome. The knife is really crap. No doubt. Especially compared to others in my collection. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That being said... Somehow... I love the hell out of my SOG aegis!!!

Out of the three AT knives I like the looks and lines of the Aegis the most. The extra long handle doesn't really bother me. However, the non recessed screws under the clip are a deal breaker for me. Those screws would tear up my jeans very quickly. I really think SOG is targeting a very specific outdoor audience with this version of the Aegis. I am thinking the full time hiking/backpacking folks. If SOG is watching and listening I would hope they would incorporate some of the suggested changes, shorten the clips screws and handle and forgo the built in safety.

1. The Aegis AT has the screw interference issue. 2. The Trident AT has the pocket shredding issue. As the handles are molded FRN, SOG could have put a flat spot under the pocket clip nub at no extra expense at all. 3. The Terminus XR has the pocket fabric trapping issue which can cause the knife to get stuck in your pocket.

I'm glad sog upgraded but I can get a cold steel code 4 for $75 .

I got the new flash for Father’s Day and I like it a lot. I definitely think it is the best out of the new series. I would go flash 1 trident 2 ageis 3. My only two gripes are the blade wasn’t centered and the only of the lock tabs rattles.

These seem - pocket clip screws aside - to be personal taste/preference issues, which are better than mechanical or QC issues. Got a knife that's got one style of blade and a handle that's another style? Just call it a hybrid...cause that's what it is! :) Thought the most interesting point was the cost comparison with the Link (Link = better steel, less expensive), but that's reversed in the 3 years since this video. The drop point Aegis sits at $85 while the 20CV Link is listed for $115 (at Blade).

This detent to open this knife is so strong I dont understand why you need a safety at all (just got it today). Has anyone figured out if you can swap the clip from the Flash to have the recessed screws? Or is that something different they did with the scales to get the screws recessed on the flash? Not even 24 hours and its already gotten caught in my cargo pocket twice trying to retrieve it.

My only complaint about this knife is I would like a bigger blade. Not sure how durable the non-metal thumb stud is for long term use.

Aside from the pocket clip screws - which could be easily remediated - it seems your other criticism are mostly minor. It looks great and slices really well which is kinda what we want a knife for!

Clearance, not tolerance

They should have called this the Spear or the Arrow. Too much handle for too little blade. I was supposed to buy one but when I had it in hand, I just couldn't get over the blade to handle ratio. The Flash is my favorite of the three. I've been playing with mine for the past four or five days now. I've been practicing the one-hand close on it.

The sog aegis and flash have most if not all the same materials and similar design ye the aegis is smaller and uses less materials but costs $10 more.

SOG is like a KIA/Hyundai. They aren't necessarily horrible cars, but the end game is you have to tell people that you drive a KIA/Hyundai.

I bought the SOG Flash 2 a couple years back and I absolutely hated that knife..these are definitely an upgrade over the Flash 2 AUS8 < D2+Steel liners+better locking system but I once again,SOG puts a safety on a assisted opening knife which is absolutely ridiculous,most of my automatic knives don’t even have safeties on them...I honestly don’t get why anyone would buy one of these SOG knives at that price when you can get a Kershaw Link,Dividend,Bareknuckle or Knockout for around the same price...nothing at all against D2,but you can get a made in the USA Kershaw in M390,20CV or S30V in the same price range...I’m a big fan of Kershaw,I have the M390 Link,the carbon fiber/M390 Knockout,the OD green Dividend with the CPM-D2/N690 composite blade,the KnifeCenter exclusive Bareknuckle with the gold scales and black 20CV blade...all these Kershaws are priced similarly to these SOG knives except I’ve had much much better luck with Kershaw,I would almost be willing to bet the Kershaw would be more durable and all around better made too..I have knives that I have a pretty decent size knife collection and I have knives that costed 4 times as much as I paid for my M390 Link but my Link gets more pocket time than any other knife in my collection...with all that being said,it is nice to see SOG stepping up their knives,the new Flash looks like a major upgrade from the Flash 2.I can’t really speak on their other knives because after buying the Flash 2,I haven’t even considered buying any of the others though I would probably pick one of these newer models up if they were priced around the $50 mark

not into this knife at all but the seal xr is my current favorite folder, I love big folders and so far the seal is the best in my opinion p.s. If you told me a sog would be my favirite folder a few years ago I would have laughed the company has improver so much recently

Im hoping SOG will update the flash-2 by giving it steel liners, the XR lock and an upgraded blade steel like CTS-XHP or even 154CM, or 14C28N. I love the handle design. It fits my hand like a glove. It just needs to be strengthened with steel or even aluminum liners and G-10 scales or go the Cold Steel route and just use thick G-10 slabs. The original has always been plagued by loose lockup with its "power lock" or "piston lock" or whatever they call it. Its a great knife it just needs upgrades. SOG now has the components to create really great knives. Their new stuff is mostly excellent. But im hoping theyll hot rod an old favorite if only just for me. SOG? SOG? Are you listening?

You are not forced to use the knife how it is called.

I love my old Aegis... won’t be buying this one. May have to pick up another one while I can.

Well, 2 years on now and this knife is $35 at midway. Is it a $95 knife like some places charge, nope. For $35, it may be the best under $50.

Aaron ! Please do a dissasembly video and try to Unassist the Aegis maybe? See how that works? Maybe we can get the best of both worlds if we remove the sping?

SOG is like Gerber, crkt, kershaw and other imports, these companies are trying to hit a price point and the quality is not there

Also, while i am nice an early, I think for the audience they where designing this for, it makes sense, its targeted at the "Backpacker" or even "Ultra Light" audience, wich like the more vivid colors who dont have their knife for heavy duty work but mainly food prep, small utility tasks and some small carving, and for that, the blade shape and Look/feel is Ideal! the "Wierd fin" wich i agree is wierd, makes sense for those people, because many who openly carry their knives have it Tied to them with Bungeecord. Atleast thats my experience from Working in an European an Outdoor Retailer :P

SOG seems to have an identity problem as a company. I just don't get much of anything with this knife. This is an easy pass for me which is pretty much the case with everything SOG puts out. There are just too many good knives out there that are better and many of those are cheaper.
