Not Wanting To Look In The Mirror | Darnell Greenidge Transformation Story

When weight gain and a major life change zapped Darnell's confidence, he found emotional balance at the gym. After losing around 100 pounds, this fit father is loving life again!
► Darnell Greenidge Transformation Story: bbcom.me/2ZWCv0O
"When I was heavy, I was never really happy," says 24-year-old Darnell Greenidge. "I would avoid mirrors; if I showered, I would quickly jump in and out of the shower and then attempt to get dressed as quickly as possible. All of my clothes had to be loose to disguise my size. My ex-fiancé may have seen me naked once or twice a year, and even then, it was unintentional and embarrassing."
Darnell's weight issues weren't tied to vanity. He didn't dream of single-digit body-fat measurements or competing on stage. Instead, Darnell's journey began with him just wanting to feel comfortable in his own skin. "I didn't see Darnell," he says. "I saw what I'd ruined." It wasn't until the culmination of public embarrassment and family turmoil bubbled over that he realized it was time for a change.
This is Darnell's story.

"All eyes on me just because of my size, and I did it to myself." HUGE respect for obese or formerly obese people who have the guts to say "I did this to myself." Even more respect for taking action after realizing that.

this is my life story. couldn't stop the Water Works. I'm with you brother. I run 3-4 miles each day to burn fat, 6 day's a week. I'm also a new dad fighting for my life for my son. if I miss a day of working out I feel so bad about myself so I try not to miss a day. This was very motivational. to everyone out there that's overweight, obese, or need to drop a few extra, I love you all! We can do this! piece of cake , just don't eat it lol
@chy4919
@chy4919 7 лет назад
210BraveHeart1 hope you`re doing well, imo it sounds like too much cardio, having rest days aren`t bad, spread your focus to your diet and weight training to make it easier and more manageable. Biggest mistake i made in trying to lose weight was depending on running and neglecting weight training to the regime, buy 2nd hand weights if you have to, all the best.

diet is the best weapon to fight weight gain.
@chy4919
@chy4919 7 лет назад
Hannah Marie i`m actually telling him to take rest days, running 3 miles every day would absolutely kill his legs and knees over time, if he or yourself have preference to expend more energy to help that calorie deficit, i would encourage weight training so you can train other muscles while your legs take a rest thereby making your regime more efficient each week, obviously this depends on what kind of lifts you do and volume. your diet is still important, exercising is just a means of expending more energy, giving you more time to balance your diet and lose weight. The Idea behind good weight loss is to be comfortable with the changes you make as you`re going to be doing it the rest of your life.

People underestimate the courage it took for this man to enter the gym for the first time. It's hard enough to go when you feel like most of the guys are stronger than you, but to also be incredibly overweight? The anxiety is unimaginable. Clownsec Never feel discouraged because how many other people on this world walk 5 miles a day and continue to strive for greatness? If you go to the gym, that inspires so many other people to talk to you and ask about your story because you never know. That super fit guy in the gym with an 8-pack could've been 400 pounds 2 years ago. You'll never know unless you, yourself try. I'm with you 100% and I also 100% encourage you to go. Maybe with friends or family...

When I was in the military, we always got motivated NOT when fittest guy blew through anything easy it's when that least fit is hustling, even if it's not that great but they're trying their best. I am disgusted by azzholes who talk shyet about fat people at the gym (I was once as well, or maybe twice since I've gained and lost weight over the years)...it's 100x harder to start than when you're fit and and just doing something you're use to. Kudos to him.

Congrats to you both. You lost about a quarter of your weight, do not diminish your own accomplishments just because someone else "outperformed" you on your journey. The key thing is that you are likely so much more fit now at 154 than you were at 197. Keep it up and try not to let distractions cause you to yo-yo back up in weight. Eat foods you know are good for you, get physical no matter what it is even if it’s cleaning the house , eat foods that are good for you when you want foods you know arnt on your path to goals... it’s not easy but baby steps will add up . Consistency is key. Throw your scale away. Set daily goals. Like salmon, sweet potato, Brussels sprouts for dinner instead of Wendy’s. And ima walk my dog. Or I’m gunna mow for my activity. You’ll get creative and find ways. There’s no right or wrong just start. Start by drinking water instead of other drinks. And just cream in coffee. Baby steps. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. You friend get to blaze your own trail and write your own story. And we all believe in you.

I’ve always tried to lose weight and living in a household that doesn’t want to change there lifestyle and use the excuse of “where naturally big” has always made it 10x harder. It’s led to me being 17 6ft4 322lbs. Being taller has always made me able to hide it a bit more giving me this state of comfort but after experiencing not being able to get on a ride for the first time recently, struggling with clothes and also just not being fit enough i have started a weight loss journey and I know it will be long and hard with my biggest fears of the loose skin being inevitable at this point I’m gonna persevere, try my hardest and by any means get fit. This video is more than inspirational and something to be proud of well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Damn Son...!!!! This hits TOO close to home. I'm an older person, but your account of how you coped with food has been my story for 25+ years. Once an elite college athlete, I've gone from 187lbs to over 300lbs in 15yrs. Stress eating, late-night eating, binge-eating, eating just to eat combined with a sedentary lifestyle has been one of the roots to my weight gain. Once able to run a mile in less than 7-minutes; play a 90-minute soccer game without breaking a sweat to know taking 20 minutes to put on sock and shoes; things have hit a major low. Divorced with very active kids, I'm no longer able to simply pass the ball with my kids or make it around a track once without stopping to catch my breathe. PRIDE is a BITCH....!!! But literally, when I begin to 'troll' RU-vid this morning, this literally was the first thumbnail I saw in my feed and I couldn't resist. Your story should be told to the masses...!!! Although there was probably a deeper seeded issue i.e. Depression, General Health, this is inspiring and I THANK YOU for sharing your story. Sincerely, Charles Pero, Lavon, TX

I feel the same right now. Even though I have lost 15 Kg in the last 3 months and still going strong I still have a long way to go. Weighing 115kg and being 6ft 2 is not what I want to look like for the rest of my life, I decided to make the change I will keep going. People like this guy give me the motivation and other people like me to make a change. Much respect bro. (My goal is 100kg)

I’m in my second week in the gym. This hit me hard. I’ve eased my way into the gym and today I hit it hard. The hardest yet. I pushed myself to the edge. Seeing your story was the fuel I needed. When you said going outside with your son wouldn’t have happened had you not made this choice, hit me hard. Oh and by the way, my sons name is Trey as well. He is in one of my fishing videos on my channel. Thanks for this man.

great stuff. I am working hard now to get in shape. I plan to be in the best shape of my life by the time I am 40. I am about to turn 38 so I am giving myself time. I am fast walking 5-6 miles a day to try and get in shape. I am only a little over a week in. My resting heart rate has already dropped 6 bpm an These stories are motivational, and very much needed. I was hooked on sugar, multiple energy drinks a day, multiple sodas a day... Junk food and candy in addition. I probably got about 70% of my calories from sugar water on most days and never touched a drop of water. There is no excuse for that behavior... but I admit soda and caffeine are a hell of a drug unlike any other. Enough to make you eat and drink yourself to death.

I like the self reflection aspect of this journey. It's not some sob story about being bullied into losing weight or feeling bad because people were staring at him so he decided to hit the gym. He knew he had a kid to raise and he decided the kind of person he wanted to be. The transformation should always start from the inside and it should be about YOU. Good for him.

The same thing happened to me at a theme park. I was with friends and we were all happy, and we saw a ride we wanted to go on...so I sat down and it coundn't latch on...and I knew I was too fat...I just died right there...everyone was staring and me and i felt so ashamed of myself...it ruined the whole day because my friends were sad because i coundnt enjoy myself like them...It still hits me to this day and its been three years...dont know how to feel better about it...but thank you so much for sharing this, it makes me that little happier knowing others went through similar experiences...and can still be happy...
