I've got one of the earlier Ruixin kits without the blade flippy bits. My experience with the provided stones is roughly the same. I switched to a lighter pressure and the stones hold up much better. I ordered some other stones as well, and one came in the mail in bits, so I broke off all the crumbled up stone and glued a nice thick piece of leather on the plastic backing for a great in-tool polisher. Shiny edges all around

Thanks for doing this, Jake. I have the Worksharp and, actually, I like it and get good results. I'm not expecting it to last forever and it can't sharpen a deep cleaver, very small blades or scissors, but that means it can still sharpen 90% of the knives we have and I get an even and near-mirror edge. I understand and agree with many of your comments, but I think your review was a little harsh. If I may offer some balance... You can get a 3rd party replacement stone holder for larger stones from other manufacturers (incl. Venev). The angle-scale might not be super-accurate, but it doesn't really matter as long as you're consistent for each knife and at least it has some kind of angle indicator (unlike many alternatives that have nothing!). Alternatively, you can ignore the scale and match the angle with a sharpie, or use a phone angle app. You don't have to use the Worksharp face-on. You can rotate it a bit and it's then very comfortable to use (for me). It's very easy to grip the base so it doesn't wobble and you can easily cut a wine-cork down to size as a quick & stable prop for the holder. BTW, it's far easier and quicker just to pull the clamp from the magnets and flip it over manually than to use the (stiff & very awkward) back-button. Your suggested alternative sharpener looks decent and good value, but it's quite bulky and more of a hassle to set up. Still I might consider it, if & when the Worksharp dies. Cheers!

Hi Thomas. I don't expect the WorkSharp Precision Adjust to compare with premium sharpeners. My main point is to counter the idea that it can give a similar result to what you can get with the premium systems. Indeed my main complaint is how physically uncomfortable it is to use that system and how expensive the stones will be over time, which is why I briefly added that bit, (5:54) during editing, about the 3rd party stone holders (I only found out about them while I was doing my editing) Links for some good stone holders are below the video. Getting one of those stone holders from Gritomatic would go a long way to making it a lot better system.

Thanks Steve. You know how hard it is for patients to build up the nerve to do the PAINFUL work of getting into doing their rehab right out of the gate. I know after having had surgery on my R knee 13 times since I was 12 years old (Osteo Chondritis Desicans - is what they called it when I was a boy. they took out a chunk of bone with cartilage on it the size of a dime (same size in USA and Canada). Since then it was mostly arthroscopic clean up jobs and 8 years ago the partial. the partial is still in good shape, the problem I have is my tibia is subsiding away from the replacement, so they need to put in a full replacement and root it into my tibia instead of just on it.

This was not really a how to video. I didn't even try to get the stone correct in the shot, I was simply sharing my opinion on the products. I had to set up things in an awkward position for the video and not everything was perfect. In my testing I didn't have to think about camera angles etc, and I did my testing like a person would normally use the systems.

If you like the sharpener (or any product) then you like it, and nobody can take that away from you. I could only provide my experience based in the context of the rest of my lifetime of experience with knife sharpening in hopes of helping someone who is looking for a new sharpener to have some more context to help them make a purchasing decision. Usually I don't review items that I think are not very good, but with the many reviews out there that miss so many of the limitations and negative points of the system I just had to make a video about it sharing what i found wrong with the WorkSharp Precision Adjust - because it is not really precision at all, but I can see that it is better than a lot of people get with freehand sharpening.

I wish I had a Tormek. I have a rotating stone that runs wet (cold) and i use that for chip removal, it is a very budget system but it has serious limitations. You can see what I mean here in this video where I fix a broken tip - I would use the same equipment and similar technique for grinding out chips: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wsZGaTr9xtM.html If I had the funds I would get a Tormek in a heartbeat

I would go with Lansky - be cause the Ruixin clamp isn't as versitile. It will cost more long term because you have to buy Lansky stones, but they have almost every type of stone you could possibly want. And they also have an optional table top clamp setup - albeit fir more $ Disclaimer - I used Lansky for many years before I upgraded to high end sharpening rigs.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
Unfortunately that is true some of the time. But there is a bigger group of reviewers, who are not getting paid, but they are like monkey who see something new and shiny and they think it is wonderful because of the emotional high they get from having something new and shiny. They get a new toy and they review it without really taking the time to investigate it thoroughly. I like new and shiny things too, but I try very hard on CCE to not let that get into the video. So I rarely review anything until I have had it over 3+ weeks and the emotion of the new and shiny toy has worn off and I can make a rational evaluation of it and not just give my emotional feedback. Also I never accept any payment for my reviews. I do accept free samples on occasion (less than 5% of my reviews are in this category - the rest I buy), and i know that can influence me, but I try very hard to not let that get into the review.

I am glad you enjoy the sharpener you bought. I agree with one thing, they did do a better job with the Pro version, which would be expected. They learned how to fix the problems from the several 3rd party companies who made many fixed for the original version. Clearly loads of customers agreed with the complaints I gave because these 3rd party companies made a lot of money selling those improvements. Gritomatic.com still can't keep those upgrades in stock, the sell so fast.

Wow Jake, I totally geeked out on that video. I'll have to search your other vids on sharpening systems. I'm geeking out on the TSPROF Blitz - quick question - is the Blitz worth the money?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Год назад
I'll start with saying that the Blitz 360 is highly preferred over the base Blitz. That said, if you don't need to sharpen many knives that have blades over 6" long then yes the Blitz 360 is probably worth the cost, but I cannot say for certain if it's worth the cost to you because I don't know how the price will affect your overall budget. It is sad that this damn war in Ukraine has raised the price by 40% due to the tariffs against products from Russia, but if the price doesn't create financial hardship then yes, it is a very good system. If you also want to sharpen longer knives with any regularity then I would suggest the K03. It takes up more space but it is an awesome piece of kit. That said, there is a brand that I have played with but haven't gotten my hands on that I am VERY interested in - KAZAK (Polish). I am hoping to get their Model 100 - www.gritomatic.com/collections/kazak-poland/products/kazak-model-100-knife-sharpener (currently sold out).

Just wanted to say, thanks for your review. I just started sharpening with the ruixin you reviewed (thanks for gritomatic). On mine when when blade flipped 180 degrees the angle of sharpening changes by a couple of degrees, got electronic angle finder to keep track of the angle. I use the blade of the knife for set point ( zero~bench mark for angle) and adjust accordingly. Nice to know there are better stones and options for the ruixin (raisin?). I believe that it works well, but must tighten every screw you can find to keep it true. Good luck with knees, and keep doing what you do!
@CanadianCuttingEdge

It is still a very low priced and low precision device - which is true of both of the sharpeners in my video. If you want precision then I have to recommend brands like HAPSTONE or TSPROF , but they cost a lot more.
@cudgee7144
@cudgee7144 2 года назад
I bought one of the Ruixin sharpeners 2 years ago, it's a piece of junk. As you state, the angles don't match when you flip it over, there are RU-vid videos on how to correct it, but they don't work. You are correct, you have to use an angle cube every time you flip it. Also the spring in the blade holder will eventually weaken and it becomes sloppy and useless. But i have a suggestion. Just use it for reprofiling, get your angle and set your edge, but instead of flipping it, take the knife out and turn it around then reset the angle. They are good for this, but you are better off investing in a Hapstone or TSPROF in the long run. I have an edge pro, they suit me but might not be your thing. But do invest in good stones whatever you decide to get. I have the 3 set of Venev Diamond stones so you get 6 grits. They are really good. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.👍

Any TSPROF is quite a bit superior to either of the systems in this video. that is why I say in the video to get the BEST sharpener that you can possibly afford. I very rarely do comparision videos because they just end up with a LOAD of people getting angry and telling me that I am wrong or unfair in my comparison so I probably won't do a comparision between this and any TSPROF. Afterall, that would like like comparing a Datsun with a Porshe -sure, they are both cars but they are NOT comparible.

I've had the Work Sharp for 2 weeks. It's terrible. Lots of play, very unstable. I've had to wedge 2 C batteries under the clamp in an effort to gain some stability and level the knife. The clamp design is horrible for most of my knives, apart from my broad, full flat grind one without a swedge on the top(Revo Ness). It's hard to get a consistent grit pattern down near the tip. The 320 has already lost the bite it had when I first used it. It dosen't even rotate well when it's time to flip. Thanks Jake.

That is indeed easier. The problem with that is longevity. plastic is not a good material choice for sticking parts in and out repeatedly. The friction wears it down. It is only a very tiny bit of friction each time, but it adds up such that it will get loose and sloppy much more quickly than I would accept.

I like the solid looking build of the ruixin pro you demoed and the ability to use the larger and better quality stones although the clamp looks rather wide like it designed for kitchen knives? I was thinking of a worksharp precision adjust to replace my Lansky but after seeing this video thats a no go for me. Should i stick with the Lansky which i already have the deluxe diamond and ceramic hone sets for or is the Ruixin that much better or Considering the investment in stones it would require should i just get a base KME? This Ruixin is okay for blades up to about 6 inches, after that it gets a bit sketchy. I think I said in this video that I recommend people get the highest quality sharpening rig they can afford. Ruixin is okay as a starter sharpener but it's not a good long term solution. I am not a fan of KME largely because of the short stones it uses and it's also not very good for blades the length of chefs knives. Hapstone has the RS coming out very soon (already?) And looks very promising. Maybe check out my other Hapstone reviews. Hapstone is made in Ukraine (so it doesn't have the extra costs (40% tariff) like my favourite TSPROF sharpeners from Russia)

Its main issue is sharpening the tip of knives. It can be a challenge to do it correctly, and actually hit the tip, while not rounding the tip. Getting a good grind pattern is even more of a challenge, and it can make "splotchy" cuts near the tip, which the ceramic stone struggles to remove. Some of this is inherent to these type of systems, but the thin stones don't make it particularly easier. The idea that it is completely foolproof and safe compared to stones isn't true. Haven't had any other real issues with mine though, for my very few knives. Might make a stabilizer/brace for the arm that stops the wiggle, like the 3d printed ones on eBay, though the wiggle hasn't been an issue in practice. I might also put a small spring before the rubber stopper to absorb impact, as some suggested. Using stones is the next move.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
Rounding tips is easy to do with almost any guided sharpening rig where the blade is clamped, but certainly it is easier on some systems than on others.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
I found it to be faster to use because of all the time I saved using larger stones. Afterall the sharpening is the part that takes the longest. And this way I get an added bonus of knowing exactly what angle I have sharpened my knife. In my case, it also hurts much less. I will be doing some videos of some third party upgrades for those who like their WorkSharp Precision Adjust but want it to be even better.

I'll say that the double price is better as you can change into different stones of your desire, the one big issue I'd have is the big ass clamp(Literally) The angle finder isn't necessarily necessary because a marker would do a decent job as is

Not really double. The stones will cost 50$ But will likely last you yourentire life if you don't sharpen more than like 20 knives a month. I think the Ruixin Pro that you don’t like you’re supposed to mount it onto a piece of board to provide stability and ease of use because I saw that is what another reviewer did with his. He used four bolts to bolt his sharpener to a piece of board and he said that is his favorite sharpener. I guess he must have bought new stones because he sharpened his knife without any problem, but you said the stones that come with the unit suck. Anyway, is the Ruixin Pro RX008 able to hold a 1/4 inch knife? And are the stones that come with the RX008 better than the stones that come with the other unit?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 11 месяцев назад
The mounting issue isn't where my complaints are based but it certainly should be mounted better for ongoing use than the temporary mounting I gave it for this video. That said, I cannot imagine how some someone used 4 bolts to mount it unless he got a slightly different model than mine - there are a number of Ruixin sharpener models. I wold like to know what channel you found that review on so I could see for myself. Well, you can get a 1/4" blade in the clamp on mine but then you have barely one round of thread holding it and that is a recipe for problems, so nope, I wouldn't try to hold anything that thick in the clamp. I don't have the RX008 so I cannot say for certain if the stones on it are any better but I would seriously doubt if they have different stones than mine has, they look like they are the same in the pictures I found online. To be clear, the Ruixin stones do sharpen and you can get a decent edge but the stones will wear out quickly and clog up easily. So I would use them until they are no good, but then replace them with something a lot better.

Thanks Jake, know it seems dumb but how do you know how to put blade in clamp for even grinding?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
I try to keep the cutting edge as close to perpendicular to the rod that holds the stones, that gives the most even grind angle along the length of the blade. With some blades that requires getting creative on clamping it. The two systems in todays video don't allow for much in the way of clamping options because there is only one clamp in the middle - its one of the reasons why I like systems like TSPROF or Hapstone make. Expensive systems like Wicked Edge also only have one clamp in the middle which really limits the way you can hold the blade.

I'm surprised nobody has called out the fact that the Ruixin is not sharpening at a consistent angle as the stone has shifted considerably from when it was installed. Compare the stone position from 22:33 to 23:02 and also 23:23. Not only has the stone dropped, it's also twisted - finally gets corrected at 25:19. I'd hope that's just a byproduct of the user and not the Ruixin.

Actually a number of people have pointed out that the stone shifted in the video. I DID mention at the start of the video that I was sitiing in an awkward position to make the video - that contributed to my demonstration of it not going perfectly (user error if you will). I decided not to re-record it because I figured people would also catch that I am NOT trying to say that the Ruixin is a great choice. It has its own flaws,but I do prefer it over the Precision Adjust. My main point is that cheap ($) sharpeners are CHEAP (quality) sharpeners and its smart to save up for a better sharpener. Which is why I suggest that folks be willing to pay at least 10X as much for a sharpener than they are willing to pay for a knife. A good sharpener will last for decades and can sharpen thousands of knives, which is why they are worth getting the best one you possibly can get, as I said in the video.

Nice video. You need to tighten the screw near the spring to hold the stone, your angles were off due to the gap, screw that little knurled nut to get the stone tight against the plate. 👍🏻
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
The angles were off because there is no standard distance that the cutting edge is from front of the clamp. It's simple geometry. If the length of the Adjacent (base from cutting edge to the uprights of the sharpener) of a right angle triangle changes then Hypotenuse (the line from the knife edge to the point where the sharpening arm connects to the uprights of the sharpener) must also change This means the angle between the Adjacent and Hypotenuse sides must also change - that is the angle that the knife is being sharpened. Said another way: If you have a knife with the dimensions of a butter knife and a second knife the dimensions of a chef knife - they would be sharpened at different angles if you don't adjust the angle adjuster on the sharpening system. It could show the same angle but it would be impossible to be the same angle, that is how geometry works. The sticker with the angles are a rough estimate at best.

Surprising review. I have this system and I sharpen nothing but 7-8" kitchen knives and I don't have any of these issues! IDK, looking at this, it kinda seems that you aren't seating the clamp to the knife deep enough into the v-groove? Also, all that play in the clamp to the base unit, again, I don't think you're seating that all the way back to the base unit magnets? If I'm for sure wrong on all accounts, you have a defective unit, because I have none of those issues, and the hundreds of videos I've watched on this product, I've never seen any of these issues.
@CanadianCuttingEdge

Thanks for sharing your experience with the WSPA. The depth of mounting in the clamp has nothing to with the issues I raise in this video. The vast majority of the reviews of the WSPA are from people who got it for free from WorkSharp - that might be the main reason they all just sing praises and don't raise any concerns. Also, I am a professional knife sharpener, I have MANY of experience, I might know what to look for in a good system better than some folks.

@@CanadianCuttingEdge You may well be a professional knife sharpener, but the depth at which you seat that knife into the clamp has a direct result on how well it's clamped, I don't see how that can be disputed? Other than the spine of the knife being too thick for the clamp itself, I've never seen what you depict with that in hundreds of (Non-professional) knife sharpeners videos. Is the WSPA perfect , absolutely not, but the clamping issue and especially the amount of play you show with the clamp mounted to the base magnets is far from what it should be. If the unit had that much play in the base to clamp mount, it wouldn't even be a sellable item. Just sayin'.

I don't know if the Lansky or Worksharp are better. I dislike both because of their proprietary stones. I don't have a lot of experience with either of their diamond stones so I cannot give a clear answer that way. What I can tell you is that there are upgrades for the WorkSharp that make it so you can buy standard 6" X 1" stones and use them, that way you can get truely GOOD diamond stones. Just know that what I call "good" diamond stones are stones that end up costing more than either sharpening system just for one or two grits. Check out Gritomatic.com This is a good idea (currently sold out) www.gritomatic.com/products/6-multi-upgrade-for-work-sharp-precision-adjust That gives you a better clamp for the WorkSharp and a 6" stone holder too. Nice video. I've sharpened free hand before getting the Work Sharp precison adjust. If you take care, it doesn't wiggle "much". But I still ended up using advanced technology to fix the failure points ! I had to glue the clamp back to the plastic. And now I put paper around the clamp socket, a post-it folded around, and it doesn't move at all. Then, I surrounded the rod with a fine piece of paper to avoid the other source of wiggle. Now there is only the vertical wiggle from the system itself since the plastic is not that hard. I put an object to stop it, most of the time. It works nicely when you fix it lol.

I have used a similar system by lansky in their wooden box unit = lansky.com/products/4-rod-turn-box It can be used to maintain a good edge. But it, and I believe the Sharpmaker too, cannot CREATE a good edge. If you have watched my videos regularly you know that the factory edge on the VAST majority of knives is quite bad. the angles rarely match from one side to the other (usually at least a few degrees out, but worse even along one side there is usually a few degrees of variability of the grind angle. this means that you need some way to get a nice consident angle along the length of your knife first. Once that is done than a system like the Sharpmaker or the Lansky 4 rod box can be used to maintain a knife quite well.

Like with most Worksharp stuff, it'll do the job. For most people, it'll do I think. But it won't do a perfect job. I guess for the price it's ok unless you compare it to the Ruixin stuff. I have the Ruixin that you showed in the video. It took a bit of dicking about and modding to get it to give the same angle on both sides. But for the £30 it cost, I don't mind that at all. I'd love a TsProf, Hapstone or wicked edge, but I just can't afford it, so I'll just have to make do with the Ruixin. I'm ok with that....I think.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
It certainly can do the job for someone who wants to sharpen a handful of knives per year. I agree the Ruixin systems don't always have great quality control - mine has less than half a degree of difference from one side to the other, which is actually pretty close to what the WorkSharp does - it also doesn't match the angle from one side to the other, at least on the one I tested. I wanted to do an even more thorough video and get into all those things but it was too long of a video the way it is so I didn't cover everything. I still have a Lansky guided system and I built a base for it from a big heavy chunk of maple to hold it steady so that I could use it with my painful hands. It is also in that group of low cost systems that can provide so so results. There just isn't a good system out there for the person that wants precision every time at a budget price, at least I haven't found one yet. Which is why I try to encourage guys to consider buying only every other knife that they can afford and sock away the money that would have been spend the other times until they can afford one of the premium sharpeners. I know that when i finally had a high end sharpener that my enjoyment in the hobby more than doubled because I could finally get the edge I wanted and without a heap of fiddling or other effort, and I still stay focused on knives that cost WELL inside the low budget range with only the odd exception (which almost always is when someone gives or loans me a premium knife - I have not spent more than $70USD on a knife that I have kept, and usually it is closer to half that. I know what it means to have a very tight budget, with my small disability pension, but I also realize that now as an established reviewer I have access to stuff in the hobby that the average guy just doesn't. Back before CCE if I finally had saved up enough for a knife I got the knife, and I didn't save up the way I now suggest. I get it.

Yes indeed, that is another option - one they didn't design for - I actually mention how easily the clamp falls out. Since it is all plastic in the holder it will wear out much more quickly than if it was metal. It will become looser fitting with the increased number of times you take the clamp in and out. I noticed that change over the 10 knives that I sharpened with it in my testing. It is another way to shorten the lifespan of the unit even more than using it the way it was intended to be used.

I have them both and the Worksharp is 100× better than the Ruixon. The Ruixon is not as easily adjusted and set and if you don't crank down on all the nuts with a pair of pliers it will work loose and be flopping all over the place. I have relegated it to sharpening my beater knives and machetes. The stones for it are fine, a bit soft but decent enough and mine came with another unmounted set. The Worsharp blows it out of the water, especiallu with all of the aftermarket accessories available for it allowing a more precision grind and you can use whatever stones you want with the 6" stone holder from Etsy. Ther are a multitude of upgrades all over the interwebs for the Worksharp. The Ruixon is not even worth $50. I paid $25 for mine on Amazon and that's about all it's worth, IMO. If it had angle markings and a better way of tightening and keeping tight all of the parts and set screws, it would be a much better budget or entry level system.

I understand that experience is a very subjective thing and you’re just sharing your experience with us, but I’ve seen tons of reviews, even some bad ones, that don’t have nearly as much trouble using this as you do. And while I, again, understand that what other peoples experience doesn’t negate what you’ve experienced. At some point I have to wonder how much of this is poor design on the products part, and how much is user error on your part. I think the best thing about the Work Sharp that puts it ahead of other companies, is that they listen and communicate with their users who help them fix issues in future products. The best example of that is the pro version which fixed 99% of the issues people were having with it. Even some of the issues you have. Which is something you rarely get, if ever, from a Chinese company. Sometimes with products you buy them more for the company and support they give more than the cheap Chinese alternatives you can find. Also I think knocking the after market parts you can get to make the Work Sharp better as added expense, and then reviewing an item where you HAVE to buy more stuff to get it to work is a little disingenuous.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 10 месяцев назад
Any good company fixes things. If you look at the history of WorkSharp, from my perspective, you will see they have a history of making inferior products and releasing them at low prices only to be followed by the product they should have made in the first place. BUT, from their perspective it is a wise way of doing business because they get a lot of their customers to buy systems twice and they also get a big piece of the very low budget market. Their marketing is very slick - for example almost all of the reviews that came out in the first 2 months after the original WSPA was released were done by guys who got the system for free (though many never stated that in their videos) and that has to skew the message to a higher positive side than it would otherwise be. Giving reviewers free stuff to review is advertising (at least in part) and any reviewer who doesn't clearly state at the start of the video that they got the item for free is not being open and transparent, and I would say it is being dishonest too.Certainly, some reviewers are very honest, but enough others really love getting free stuff and don't want to say anything to jeopardize getting free stuff in the future so they are less critical than they should be. Reviewers should not be product promoters, their role is to evaluate and report whatever they find, both negative and positive with no regard to how that might affect the manufacturer. Finally, I found what I thought was the best sharpening rig that was being sold near the same price as the WSPA to do this video, but that doesn't mean I recommend the Ruixin. I believe I mentioned in the video that what I recommend is the best system you can possibly afford even if it takes time to save up to get the better system. Regarding your last comment. You don't HAVE to buy any other parts for either sharpening system in this video. Both of the systems in this video have terrible stones that any consumer would have to replace in short order. Stones are in every sharpening rig by every brand on the planet are a consumable item. Other than the stones, there is nothing that anyone would HAVE to buy, but there are items you CAN buy if you want to make them work better than they do out of the box. What is disingenuous about that? People who buy cheaply priced items usually get cheaply performing items as well. In the long run often spend more money than they would have if they bought good stuff the first time and as far as knife sharpeners go almost all the best systems are made in Europe, mostly eastern Europe. (brands like Haptone, Kazak, Jende, KakBritva, Tsprof ... etc)

Yeah, it is a bad state of affairs that so many reviewers just spew silliness or worse. Even when they buy an item to review they often watch and see what the big channels say about it and then just repeat the same stuff they heard there. I watch about 1 or 2 knife related videos per month. I don't want to even know what the others are saying about a product, I want to create my own ideas of what it is. After testing I did, in this case, watch a few videos and I was so surprised at how great guys were saying this thing by WorkSharp is. I will probably be doing some addon videos for parts that upgrade it just because a lot of guys are stuck with a piece of junk and they want to make it a bit better because they cannot bring themselves to cutting their losses, and just toss the thing.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
I never said that it was unusable, I said that there are a lot better devices to choose from many that cost less. You most certainly CAN sharpen a knife with their system, I never said otherwise. The issue rests in what you call a fantastic job and what I call a fantastic job. Perhaps you have never experienced a knife sharpened to the standard that I have for sharpening. Just because you are happy with a product that doesn't mean it is a great product, it ONLY means that YOU are happy with that product - and the same is true for me. Of course some people will be fine with it. That is exactly what WorkSharp is counting on. there is always some people who are okay with inferior products - usually because they have never experienced anything better. It's the main reason McDonalds continues to exist, for example. If the goal is to find the lowest quality products that can still get the job done is your starting point then you are watching the wrong RU-vid channel. I honestly don't care if people agree with my findings or not - I just present the what I believe in a way that I hope other people will UNDERSTAND. Agreement is completely optional. It seems that instead of understanding the points I was making you turned it into a trust issue. I never asked you to trust me. You don't know me from Adam. You shouldn't trust anyone who is making videos just because they have a load of followers (a small load in my case). By the way, the majority of the channels that sang high praises of the WorkSharp Precision has the system GIVEN to them by WorkSharp. I checked after making this video and not a single person who was GIVEN the system could find any significant flaws with it, that should be where your quesitons of trust should be exercised. Of course not every one is sharpening knives for a business, that's just nonesensical thing as far as this video is concernened. I never said this video was about finding a good system to use for earning some income via knife sharpening. That video would have very different content than this video has because this video has nothing to do with sharpening for income.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Год назад
Sure, you can think I am not seeing things as a hobbyist but I spent decades as a knife hobbyist and only quite recently (in the grand scheme of my life) did I start a VERY tiny knife sharpening business (I get less than a handful of jobs per month because I live in a small town far from a big city). I believe that a knife hobbyist would not be wanting the same sharpener that a simple homeowner who wants to sharpen their kitchen knives with. The hobbyist is the person who wants things (in their hobby sphere) better or more than the average joe would want. Both systems in this video are, in my opinion, designed for the non-hobbyist, for the person who just wants to sharpen the odd knife that they have in their home. The hobbyist will want something that is well above the base level of whatever they are a hobbyist about. There are many knife sharpening rigs that cost in the $1000's of dollars and I am not close to getting any of those. In fact, my most expensive system was selling for well under $500USD when I got it. To me, it sounds like I am clearly in the hobbyist sphere (while trying to make a little spare change) than I am in the professional sphere. This is assuming 3 levels of - regular joe vs hobbyist vs professional. I think I am seeing the situation exactly as a hobbyist, which is why I recommend that knife nuts be willing to spend at least 10X as much for a sharpener as they are willing to spend on a new knife every month. Knives come and go but a good sharpener, like mine, will last for decades, perhaps the rest of my lifetime and a good sharpener makes the hobby MANY times more enjoyable than it is when you can merely get a knife sharp. I think a hobbyist wants to get their knife edges "just so" (whatever that means to them) and that simply cannot easily happen with cheap equipment but it can happen with hobbyist level equipment. Consider the machine I use most - the TSPROF K03. If it was just for professional knife sharpeners they would not be selling thousands of units to Americans each year. Just do a search online for your 5 most local knife sharpening businesses (businesses that make at least 75% of their income from sharpening) and ask them what is the main piece of sharpening equipment they use. (Unless you live in a city of over 1 million people I doubt you will find 5 such businesses within a 100 mile radius) Further, check how many miles away you have to go to get to the 5th most far (of the 5 closest) sharpening businesses and then imagine that ratio of knife sharpeners across the whole country and you will find that there are VERY few professional knife sharpeners - not any where near enough to keep a store like Gritomatic.com or any other knife sharpener supply business afloat. I think you might not be a true knife hobbyist OR perhaps you have not yet experienced sharpening a knife exceedingly well so you cannot even imagine how much extra enjoyment it can bring to the hobby. I suggest that very few people stick with the hobby for more than 5 years unless they also get very good at sharpening and that exceedingly few people who get very good at sharpening leave the hobby - they don't get bored of it after a while because they know how special it is to sharpen well with good equipment.

Worksharp is not even true American brand... as much as worksharp and upgrades cost, why buy plastic?!?!?just a well marketed knock off of Edge Pro, or Hapstone, or other quality guided systems. Or do like my coworker who is a trained chef, gets his high end chefs knives professionally sharpened and has owned them for years.

U r the first who doesn’t know how to use the Work Sharp system, everyone else was extremely satisfied with the results, so you must have been doing it intimately wrong.
@CanadianCuttingEdge

I know how to use the system, it is extremely simple to use, the design is very straightforward. So, you think if I knew better how to use it that I would like it?? Really? So that means that everything you don't like is because you don't know enough about it. Think about all the things you don't like. Now imagine how great they would be if only you could figure out how to use those things properly.

Folks no Jake has not shown faults at all, he has shown he has very little knowledge about this product. First he had not even placed the knife correctly into the holder, he maybe should invest into some lessons on knife sharpening and product knowledge. The holder holds a knife when properly placed into it very well. You are not applying 500 foot pounds on it, in fact you should never ever be using force when using a product like this, instead allowing the stone to do all the work, light pressure is all that is needed. When used correctly the unit is very sturdy and does not wiggle much at all. Very little pressure is even needed to old it while sharpening, so Jakes old arthritic body should be fine, he needs not be a football player to sharpen a knife at all. It rotates very easy, in fact you never hold it front on to you, its always at an angle any way so pressing the button behind and rotating the stone is great. Th stones also last a good long while, and are replaceable. The angle adjustment is bang on, its not for sharpening axes or swords, its not for 1/4 inch thing large bowe knives at all. If Jake could read, it states on the box for house knives and edc knives, however it can do larger knives like a K-bar and such, also will not throw out the angle adjustment. Jake complains about the angle adjustment, yet on the so called better product he has to use a marker method or angle meter, what the fuck !!! Jake are you retarded, you can do the same with the other, that is a much better unit. Now for the great stuff, with the work sharp it has 3 stones in one and thought need not continually swap stones like Jake has to do. Next there is an upgrade kit that has many more grits. Jake you are not the one to do a review on a great product like work sharp. For everyone else please do not use this channel for anything more than comic relief, Jake is a clone not a word of wisdom.

You mirror my thoughts exactly...I have the Work Sharp and the accessory kit...its the best sharpening kit under 100.00 bar none...Im thinking Jake is very very biased in this review, ..perhaps too much pain meds Jake?...ive stopped watching your videos, you give way too much personal information for a knife review channel...I appreciate you going through your health issues,..but do you really need to talk about them in every one of your videos?

Such a comment tells the world a lot more about you than it does about me. Why do you have to insult someone because you disagree with them? Why not just leave a comment telling people you think it is an awesome sharpener? There is no need to be rude. Your opinion is valued by me, which is why I don't delete comments of people that disagree with me. It's not like I was attacking YOU personally, so show some maturity next time you leave a comment on a video. Generally, I have found people who like to insult folks whom they disagree with to have very low self-esteem, they are hurting, looking for some acceptance but they are too broken to know what to do with it when it comes around, so they build a walls with their words to push people away. I know you want people to like you - try being nice and they will.

Stop putting pressure on let the stone do the work. Please don't start a business knife sharpening.

I guess I am an idiot and don't know how to sharpen knives at all. If you can possibly achieve an open mind instead of being judgemental you might figure out that other people might have something to each you. It is not possible to use a sharpening system of these types without putting some pressure on the stone (unless they are lifting the stone). Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't understand how they work OR they are trying to emphasize that very little pressure is the goal and they make that point by saying "don't put pressure on the stone". Very little pressure still = pressure. PS, I am a professional knife sharpener, it's my business, my guess is that I have quite a bit more experience sharpening than you do; why would someone with my level of experience want to even watch videos about super low cost sharpening systems?

You really seamed to have a initial negative opinion and tried your best to fabricate issues to prove it. I was waiting for you to say “it really doesn’t work when your in a hand stand and looking at it upside down”…

I guess it can seem that way to you - opinions are free to have and share. I think I bought it (unlike the vast majority of other reviewers of this sharpener who got it for free from Work Sharp) genuinely hoping it would be a good tool because I hate wasting my hard earned money, but it was disappointing me at almost every turn. I did actual testing over a period of weeks before I hit record on this video, as I do on my my reviews. Perhaps much of my conclusions were influenced from the fact that I am a used to using sharpening rigs that are much much better for the job in my day to day sharpening for my knife sharpening business. If you want to see some of the aftermarket add on devices that make using the WSPA a bit better than it is out of the box you can find them on this channel, and there are more to come. Your final comment is just insulting to my integrity. I am okay with that, it just comes with being a content creator. People who know less about a subject often feel the need to insult people they disagree with instead of articulating actual rational arguments on the subject (perhaps because they cannot). It's just the state of things these days, people feel powerful and smart in their perceived anonymity on the internet and tend to behave in a civil manner; it says a lot more about the person doing the insulting than anything else. P.S. The correct word you meant to use is "you're"., not "your". Details are important... to some of us.

Your clumsy if you can’t use the worksharp lol. You must be sponsored by them because your the only person who can’t use the WS.

OF course I am clumsy not in using the systems - it was clumsy trying to get a camera on a tripod close enough to be able to make a video and with the tripod and lights taking up so much of the space around me I had to use an odd body position to make the video. But don't be confused, in my testing I certainly know how to use the WSPA properly when I have it on a clear space on my workbench. Perhaps you are not aware that I am a custom knife sharpening business, maybe you could take a look at the reviews of my customers before you further judge my ability to sharpen a knife. You can see the reviews on Google. You can search for my business "Canadian Cutting Edge Alberta Sharpening" or use this shortened link to go directly to the reviews - bit.ly/3F2SXAg

@@CanadianCuttingEdge you deliberately said it’s not a good design. You exaggerated everything in your video to make it seem like you couldn’t sharpen on it. Because you must be sponsored by someone else. There plenty of people with reviews on the other side. I was just pointing out that you exaggerated so badly it was comical.
