Novak Djokovic: When crowd chanted 'Roger' I heard 'Novak' | 2019 Wimbledon

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic talks after successfully defending his Wimbledon men’s singles title against Switzerland’s Roger Federer. Djokovic calls the longest ever Wimbledon singles final the most mentally challenging match he has ever played, and outlines how he phased out the All England Club crowd's heavy support for his Federer. He also discusses the challenge of chasing Federer and Spain’s Rafael Nadal on the all-time Grand Slams list, and describes how the grass tasted during his traditional Wimbledon celebration.

when i started watching tennis i was a huge roger fan and was even annoyed at this man cuz he started consistently beating roger and have seemed to figured something out, but over the years i've learned to appreciate this guy, the amount of obstacles he's has to face, he always walks onto the court with a bit more on his shoulder than fedal, cuz of his upbringing, his country of origin, and his slightly more outwardly directed emotion, and after today I became a fan, i'd still be sad if he does manage to get that big 20, but this man fully deserves all the glory, truly the superman of our sport, mind of steel

Guys what did the crowd do wrong??None booed at Novak's second serves and they were clapping all the good points that he played. The fact that the most people supported Roger is logic. Are they obliged to become Novak fans suddenly?I can't understand it.. They just supported their favourite player. What's wrong with that? In USO I agree that the crowd is terrible sometimes but in WO why? After all it's not only Djokovic that has to face the crowd when he plays Roger. It's all the players actually except maybe Nadal in RG and Madrid. As for the match TODAY Federer played better and it's a bit of injustice as Djokovic "stole" the match somehow, unlike WO 2015 where Djokovic was better. But i guess it's good for the sport that the gap is closing as the competition between the big 3 becomes tougher and we watch better matches.

He brings it all to together, both attack and defence, combination of techniques. Just keeps going and going no matter what they throw at him or how strong they are. No the crowd just supported the player they wanted to win, who has a record 8 titles and memorable matches there dating back to the 90s, is more respectful on court, with a playing style that is much easier on the eye to most, playing in what for all they knew was his last final or even last match at Wimbledon. It's not like they were calling out during Novaks' serve or anything and the boos were as a result of a Novak arguing over something he was clearly in the wrong about and hitting things with his raquet when things weren't going his way (as usual). It's no shock Federer was the crowd favourite, and if it bothers Novaks' fans so much why don't they show up to his matches and support him instead of whining about a partisan crowd?

People get pissed because djokovic is the only one who has consistently beat nadal and Federer. If you listen to what he says, he is a genuinely nice individual. Don’t get competition and real life mixed up, he’s on the court to provide for his fam and win. He can be as intense as he wants.

I wonder how it feels to be arguably the best player in the universe and still hear the crowd chant his two biggest rivals’ names instead of his...deep down that hurt but at the same time it’s and endless source of energy

The crowd is racist by trying to influence the results of the match. There is nothing special why the Wimbledon fans should favor Nadal or Federer other than they are western Europeans. It is really satisfying that the crowd didn't get the desired effect that they wanted. Bravo Djokovic. You are a true champion.

Novak and Federer were well matched. That's why the play went on for so long. I'd have been happy if Federer had won. But now I'm happy that Novak won. The upside of Novak's win is that now people will say Novak won despite the disadvantage of the crowd's opposition, instead of saying Federer won because of the crowd advantage.

I get that people root for their favorite players, but it was so odd seeing how the crowd behaved at the final. They made Novak into some kind of a villain, and that's where I have a problem with. Roger played well, but to think how Novak had to played against a tough opponent and an even tougher crowd is just remarkable. Nerves of steel.

Maybe one day the Brits will finally learn if they haven't so far that the Serbs are the best when everyone is against them, its a national trait of Serbian people called "Inat" and it reflects itself in history,in war,in sports,in everyday life and every other thing, and is a crucial aspect of Serbianity and the explanation for many Serbian actions and deeds. "It is an attitude of proud defiance, stubbornness and self-preservation-sometimes to the detriment of everyone else or even oneself.”

I’m a Federer fan because I love his natural & effortless style of game, but I also like Djokovic, I admire his tenacity & mental toughness. I thought the crowd was rude & disrespectful toward Novak especially as he hadn’t done anything to deserve the jeering & booing. So in the end the crowd got what it deserved, Djokovic winning!
