Gergoth one shot the zombies, so I used it to farm zombie souls in the room in lost village with five of them in order to upgrade the cestus. I then sold them to hammer for profit. I repeated this until I had enough money for the soul eater ring.

The DoS and OoE enemies are all quite tanky. Having tanky enemies in a game that requires you to farm for items to get the true ending has to break some type of gaming rule...

they arent really tanky if you use skills/ weapons the enemy doesn't reaist. ​@sean4559 op probably just used the same weapon throughout.
