NTA UGC NET 2022 Scansion in poetry / meter and foot in poetry/ Trochaic tetrameter catalectic 

Scansion in poetry basically means analysing a poem's metrical pattern. In this video we have scanned the poem The Tyger written by William Blake. Firstly, the various steps to be adopted in scansion are explained. Implementing these steps one by one we have determined the meter in each and every line of the poem. It is obvious that the poet has not maintained the same metrical pattern throughout the poem. The poet has switched from one meter to the other depending on the mood. A few iambic pentameter lines are inserted in between trochaic tetrameter lines. However the ruling meter or the basic meter employed by the poet is determined. Moreover, there are many catalectic lines which make the poem more powerful as these lines end with an accented syllable.
