Thanks so much for the video. The only video talking about the importance of locking the car belts. Also, the viewing angles and on screen descriptions are very informative. BTW, is it possible to fold the cup holders after completing the rear-faced installation? Thanks
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 5 лет назад
You can fold them but they won't tuck into the seat due to the belt (seat belt or lower anchor strap) running through the hole that they close up. You can however remove the cupholders.

Thank you so much for the video, it was really helpful! I just got done installing my Rava but I feel like it's a little lopsided, the shoulder belt side is a little higher because I pulled it so tight. So my question is, is it better to get it as tight as possible or to have it level? Thanks!
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
You can have it level and have it tight. The key is to make sure that the seat is level before you lower the tension door - and as you close the tension door, use both hands and push equally. This should keep the seat level and tight. You may not have to undo your whole installation - just try opening the true tension door, straightening the seat out, and closing the door.

Hi there, would Hyundai Sonata have enough room for nuna rava behind the driver seat? Thanks!
@shrinivaskangal
@shrinivaskangal 3 года назад
This is an excellent video thanks. I have one issue, while installing rear facing with the extra leg space extended, when I push from the back it always collapses.
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 3 года назад
It shouldn't collapse, but it usually sucks into the back of the vehicle seat in a way that makes it basically disappear. In our experience this device does not actually give extra leg room (despite what the marketing for this seat would lead you to believe).

Why do you have it at the angle before installing it? Other places have told me that you can change the mode of the angle when it's installed. I'm so confused
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 5 лет назад
You can not change the angle when it is installed - if you can, your seat is installed way too loosely. There are almost no seats in the US where you can change the angle after installation. There are currently (Oct 2018) no rear-facing convertibles that allow the angle to change after installation except for the Graco recline n ride (which we would not recommend as it has significant installation and fit-to-vehicle issues).

Thanks so much for this video! You mentioned that the tension door is not a seatbelt locking device. My car does not have an automatic locking retractor (2003 Saaab 9-5). Can I use a locking clip?
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
If you are in the US, your car has a seat belt locking mode for car seats - but it is in the latchplate (the male end of the seat belt). Saab calls it a "lockable belt tongue" and it is discussed on page 29 of your manual - www.saabnet.com/tsn/faq/manuals/2003_saab_9-5_owners.pdf - you simply switch the red button on the back of the latchplate to the child seat mode, and now the seat belt will stay tight in the lap portion (the shoulder portion will lock in an impact). You do not need to use a locking clip with your seat belts - on this car seat or other car seats - you simply need to switch the latchplate into the car seat mode. If installing in the center, make sure to read page 30 about the strap to secure the vehicle's arm rest.
@lindsaybergan

This is very helpful. I didn't know where to look in the owner's manual, now I do! Also good to know about the locking strap as I am installing in the center. Thank you.

hi! does this seat not have a recline line or angle indicator bubble?
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
It does not have any type of recline angle indicator (line or bubble). For babies who are able to sit upright unsupported, this is fine. For babies who can not sit upright unsupported, it makes me nervous to just trust a parent to notice if a baby's head is falling down... as if the parent is driving alone they can't notice the baby's head - and should not use a mirror to constantly look at the baby as this is a significant driver distraction.
@fourhorsemen5
@fourhorsemen5 7 лет назад
The rear facing car seat that have says the car seat handle should in the most upright position (highest possible position relative to the pavement. We are used to pulling the handle back toward the baby's head as far as it will go. We do this because it unblocks our view of her through our rear view mirror, we also have a mirror on our back seats. Why do they recommend that we do this? Is it because of emergency, so we can get her out faster? Thanks!
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
The manufacturer recommended this as they felt it safest for their car seat to be used this way. One reason this is recommended is it decreases how far the car seat rotates to the back of the car during a crash. We do not recommend using mirrors to see the baby as they are a driver distraction and increase the chances of you getting into a crash because you are taking your eyes off the road. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions to your child's car seat.

Is it possible to install too tight? I installed and the seatbelt has so much tension it is super tight! I’m scared or might be too much tension.. The foot rest is digging into the seat
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 3 года назад
Seat belts are tested to withstand up to 6,000 pounds of force in a crash... so you don't need to worry about it being too tight as there is no such thing with a human (even an NFL linebacker) pulling the seat belt tight. The foot rest needs to dig into the back of the vehicle seat in order for the car seat to get tight.

Am I supposed to attach the car seat tether to the front seat metal track attached to the floor for rear facing install to prevent rebound?
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
This video shows the complete installation. This seat - as well as 95% of the car seats in the US - do NOT allow rear-facing tethering. When this seat is rear-facing the tether should remain clipped into the back of the Rava so it doesn't fly around and hit the child in the head. This car seat does not have an anti-rebound device.

I live in NYC and love Nuna Rava for longer trips outside of the city, but find it too bulky for trips in a cab around the city or to get to and around the airport when traveling on my own with the child. What would be your advice on a good lighter convertible seat to get that's travel-friendly and can be installed with seatbelt? Is Combi Coccoro a good choice? Thank you

HELP! I have been wanting to get a Clek forever...but now the Nuna Rava is looking pretty sweet! I know you are a Clek fan...but now that you've seen the new Rava, what do you think? Which car seat do I get?!?!
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
We like the Clek for having much more rear-facing leg room and anti-rebound bars for rear-facing - and the Foonf for its rigid LATCH for forward-facing. If you will need to do a seat belt installation rear AND forward-facing, then the Rava is the way to go as it does this more easily than basically any other seat we've tried (some do one direction easily but not the other, while the Rava is easy in both directions).

How would you compare this seat to the Britax clicktight convertable seats?
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
No comparison. Compared to a Britax Click Tight convertible, the Rava is an easier to use seat in our opinion - easier to install, easier to get the child in/out of, easier to use harness straps. We are not big fans of the Britax Click Tight convertibles - they are cramped in the inside (tight crotch buckle, small amount of leg room) and the click tight plate isn't as easy to lock down in many instances as it should be. The Rava, it should be noted, is also not the most robust in leg room for a rear-facing child... the Clek is a far and away clear winner for this.

So bummed. I was SO hoping we'd get a minimally modified Rebl. So much cooler. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be modified to allow for seat belt installation and use without the load leg for these ridiculous newfangled vehicles with their not allowing the use of one and FMVSS crash testing. I swear I'm gonna ne a grandmother before the US finally adopts and requires the very much needed antirotation and antirebound features!
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
The Rava has a much higher rear-facing capacity than the Rebl... but sadly doesn't feature the load leg, rigid LATCH, or swivel that Rebl offers. Rebl - and seats like it which are rigid LATCH + load leg convertible car seats - simply don't translate into the American market due to very different requirements in the US and European regulations.

This looks like a really great seat. I read through the manual. It looks like this cannot be used with the type of seatbelt you describe in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nKn6fgv6Glk.html. Is that understanding correct? If I get this, I have other placement options, so no big deal, but I want to make sure I'm not installing in a middle seat with this type of belt if that's what the manual indicates.
@thecarseatlady1
@thecarseatlady1 7 лет назад
It can be used with a seat belt that comes from the roof.

When I locked the true tension door after installing the car seat rear facing w/ the seat belt from the car (not the latch) it took some force to close the door. Not like a needed tons of muscle to do it but harder than the instruction manual let me to believe. Seem ok? Thanks!
