Dude, no, that wasn't really the Jabberwock, that thing *_is_* Alice, after her body started breaking down, and she started absorbing parts of the third floor to stabilize her data construction, and eventually, she just lost control, and transformed into that thing, awaiting for someone she couldn't remember to come back and play with her. The third floor was shown to be a bit wonky normally, and it just happened to mesh with Nursery Rhyme's "Alice in Wonderland" theme.
Each "fate" has its own theme Fate stay night "teens fghiting bad guys" Fate zero "everyone is bad inside" Fate apochryfa "its war" this one is "i want you to feel lost" theme
Alice actually died and the Nursey Rhyme was actually running around trying to recreate Alice cause she was lonely and since no one remembered her she was fading away and she was just a scared little girl. Nursey didn't want to become something else so it latched on to Alice and tried to stay this version of Nursey Ryhme. Hence where everything went to heck. So all in all she was just a very scared little girl that was all too lonely and didn't want to vanish. Its really really sad. but thats my take on it. As far as I understand when Nursey changes to another master unlike other servants they can keep their memories but Nursey becomes someone new and everything else was gone. So She liked who she was with Alice.
To put it simply, Caster is low key OP due to allowing the user to rewind time at will and render in addition eliminate the enemy at will due to memory erasure.
If we go by what is said in fate grand order, nursery rhyme is also virtually invincible until she s given a proper physical form(which in this case is a copy of alice) because until then, her body is literally everything around you once you enter her reality marble. Also, alice turned into a monster because everything around her was made by the mooncell therefor she was pretty much accidentally taking the form of everything she absorbed at once Honestly there isn't much that was specific to the game aside of the jabberwocky which was basically *generic find X object* quest. And since this is suposed to be a time skip, we aren't getting alice and her servant running away and laughing while being annoying as hell
Nursery Rhyme is a conceptual entity--if you don't project an existence onto her like Hans did by naming her, you're fighting an entire planet. Even then she's easily one of the top-tier Servants thanks to the Jabberwocky, Nameless Forest, and Queen's Glass Game--if you keep her fed with enough mana, she's effectively invincible, can reset the fight indefinitely, and unless you're one of a handful of Masters immune to the Forest's effects or one of a handful of Servants immune to mental tampering, if things go badly enough she can wait you out in the Forest. Alice being one of my favorite Servants, I'm really bummed out at how underutilized she is in FGO's story, and I hope that, if she ever gets an animation update, they also update her Noble Phantasm to be the Jabberwock rushing the enemy team.
Nursery Rhyme and Alice's Arc was defiantly one of the most depressing and saddest I've seen Last Encore thus far. These two are already the most tragic Master/Servant pair in Fate/Extra (I still feel like shit every time I beat them), but watching there episodes was especially heart-wrenching.
Yes, it was more confusing than it needed to be, but you did get everything right as far as I can tell. In the original Fate/Extra, the Jabberwock looks very different than it does in the anime, much more Berserker-esque. While you didn't mention it, it's funny to include that Hakuno(n) in Fate/Extra asks Rin what they can do to remember their own name. Her advice? WRITE IT ON YOUR HAND. You should play Fate/Extra, it's actually quite fun. Last Encore, as a sequel, does NOT do it justice. Just be prepared for a bit of a grind.
He got most of it right except for the Jabberwock. The Jabberwock is a monster that does look Berserker-esque, however the monster in the anime is actually Alice after absorbing parts of the forest to try and keep herself alive long enough to reunite with the person who she can't remember
The monster that Aliced turned in the anime is NOT Jabberwock. It's just the representation of Alice Shapeshift skill possibly combined with her Noble Phantasm.
The most interesting/disturbing fact is the Anime made Alice story/fate much more brutal & cruel than in the game which was suprising. From what i guessed at the special end Nursery Rhyme kept(or at least tryd to) all remnants/fragmetns of Alice mind which fragmented, a. o. broke down due less and less ressources from the mooncell, on that floor viva the Jabberwock entity that basiclly suppyls its existence with mana/the code/ressources itself from its master. As in the video said due her transforming into Jabberwock & becoming the floor itself she could sustain herself withouth problems. And thats kinda where the tragic unfolds. I guess or my guess is the only time we see Alice is in the flashbacks where she meet`s the game cannon Hakuno & later in her Jabberwock form. Everything else is either NurseryRhyme in disgiuse to keep the act together for her master`s wishes & dreams. As we see Alice was suprised (+ it was her final moment) when she saw Hakuno holding the book from back than thus she assumend he finally came back aka she rememberd for the first time. (Basiclly if she would have meet Hakuno a second time on this floor than she wouldnt attack him in the first place as Jabberwock due the promise they made as they know each other) The indicator for that is that the first time Hakuno sees another person the floor it is Nursery Rhyme (black Alice) lurking behind something. Hakuno follows her and then meets regular Alice which indicates she was hiding in disguise of Alice. Well that and the fact that Nursery Rhyme after all showed Hakuno the truth about her existence and whats left of her Jabberwock & the fragments of her "hospital" days. It seemed like Nursery Rhyme basiclly told or suggested to Hakuno please free her(end her suffering)cause her "dream" was no longer something Alice would want in the first place. One fucked up story In the game Jabberwock looked more like the golem from Apocryphas Caster. Tho this one was way way way more fucked up and kinda a better version.
As someone who played the original PSP game i really enjoyed the gigant puzzle the Anime is. It changed from "who i am" to "what happend to the moon cell & what is this Hakuno?" Shaft did a great job creating the atmosphere. Even if the fight scenes lacked some impact. Tho the game wasnt in the first place about action and more about the character + the mystery. Well the Extellla games are much more combat focused nowdays
To me this was so fucking good. The feeling of getting lost here was so good with her story being revealed little by little. This was the best psychological drama shit I have seen in a while.
Alice by far was the best character in fate. Extra got repetitive fast but when you hit Alice, the game made a huuuuge shift in tone. So I was really happy she made a return on the anime. I was kinda disappointed that Alice didn't appear in extella. I'm hoping in extella link Alice appears to play with child Altera (though I doubt it)
I kinda wish Shaft just adapted the game instead of doing what is apparently a sequel to it, and making everyone confused. I mean I like it for what it is, and I'll admit the show does have a massive exposition problem, but that score in MAL is so depressing to look at. Hopefully the last two episodes we're getting in July might make it a bit better.
Extra's original format probably wouldn't have translated well to anime. It was a game made back before Fate was the super popular cash cow it is today. So the budget for it was rather low. Basically, your character went from the homebase school, to a dungeon crawl for info, to a servant battle. And this repeats several times as you worked through all the masters in the tournament. If you think LE was exposition heavy, the original Fate Extra turned into an anime would be way more so.
Not best but yes it had to be changed. That said this was just Shaft ripping off their themselves. There was no reason to make it so convoluted when the idea of Nursery Rhyme and Alice'sbackstory was convoluted enough. It should have just been a more psychological trip,which it began as. But the battle was shoehorned in which didn't fit at all, especially since the concepts they used (the monster and the nameless forest) were easily handled in the game by using the very same techniques used in the books of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
Nah, the game's story wouldn't have been good for an anime. Especially since the story changes depending on which Servant you chose and whether you chose to help Rin or Rani
Great job explaining her backstory despite it being so confusing Still it's a shame Nursery Rhymes floor was so depicted so confusing. I really like her as a servant and I had hoped there would be more interactions between her and Alice. They were so cute in the game
Just want to clarify something, the monster we see isn't Jabberwock but Alice herself and Alice the servant lost her form of the real Alice as the real Alice turned into a monster by consuming all of the floor resources. This was all mentioned in the official website.
It's possible that the reason Alice transforms is due to the loss of Jabberwocky in a previous run during the game, so she doesn't transform into Jabberwocky but a semblance of it, since Last Encore seems to be a weird pseudo-sequel to the games. Otherwise, Fate Grand Order does give the two a bit of a conclusion, with Nursery Rhyme joining your party and learning to take on Alice's name and continue living on in that appearance to honor her fallen master's wishes to go outside and have fun with others.
The song is called Ring around the Rosie, and it is waaaaaay more disturbing than most people think. Some researchers theorize the song was based off the Great Plague of England; a horrible epidemic that took many lives due to a spreading of the bubonic plague.
Fate/Grand Order builds upon this, and helps frame the relationship between Nursery Rhyme and Alice as being entirely symbiotic, to the point that they stopped being separate entities due to the sheer amount of time they spent as master of the 3rd floor (over 1,000 years). Plus, having Alice chewing out Hans Christian Andersen over the ending of the Little Mermaid remains a cute moment in FGO.
I feel like Fate/Extra is one of those anime's that will benefit from binge watching, once it's on netflix and you can watch it all in one go (and with the dub) things will make more sense.

Even for someone who's played the game, the way Alice and Caster's story was presented in Last Encore was really confusing. From Nursery Rhyme's disappearance when MC arrived to the third floor, to Alice becoming a monster due to her absorption ability as well as being able to use Nursery Rhyme's NP Queen's Glass Game. It almost makes me want to believe that Alice merged with Nursery Rhyme and gained her abilities in a similar way Rin fused with Cuchulain. Though as for Queen's Glass Game, Alice may have the ability herself because in the game, when the NP is deployed during battle, both Alices were casting it together. The theory about Nursery Rhyme being Alice all the time came across my mind too, but I personally think that both theories pointed out in the video were interesting and made sense for reasoning. And for the third floor's appearance, it resembled a witch's labyrinth in Madoka very much I had to see whether I was watching the right anime 😂
So this may be a bit late but in the first episode around 15:12 there is a page brought up that is not in English and shows a few illustrations along with some japanese writing. Does anybody know what it's saying? Feel like it's probably some philosophical equation the way it's displayed but not sure.
The entire extra last encore series is confusing as fck but this arc just took all of that to the next level, i mean i've watched this video and i think you did a great job explaining it but i still am not completely sure i know what actually happened especially the jabberwock thing because from what i've seen in the anime it seems that the jabberwock is actually alice or the nursery rhyme or the servant
I only played the game but was rather unsure whether to feel sorry for Alice or not. On one hand she was just a little girl and didnt really understand what was going on, its been made clear that her life was very unhappy one and obviously I didnt want her to die, or die again in any case. On the other hand her understanding of playing and such was seriously messed up and she has killed quite a few people, its also hinted at that she does understand more than she lets on like knowing she isnt really alive anymore, still, its not like many, if any of the Magi who joined the holy gral war are particularly good. In any case, its always messed up when kids are involved, the innocent and naivy kid murderer is something that has to be done well to work but I did feel very sad for both Alice's by the end :X

All i want to say is that i have Nursery Rhyme in FGO and she is one tanky and i mean tanky bitch. She would soak up the damage even in lower levels and shes so hard to kill by the 3 knight classes. Although her attacks are weak. She is one awesone meat shield good for taking the damage away from your glass cannons.
I watched Fate/ Extra Last encore while sewing Neros cosplay and realized later I had no idea what happened in the anime, if take my eyes off the screen for 2 seconds and would be lost immediately. All I know is they are trying too hard to be a discount monogatari, oh yeah and the fact that Rin and Shinji are in it and idk where thatd fit into the timeline of the fate series. Is it another dimension than Fate/ Stay night? Or did they just run out of characters to fill the gaps and decided to reuse some characters 🤔
It's an entirely different Universe, that the fans named it ExtraVerse, which comprise Fate/Extra, Fate/ Extra CCC(Great Game, a bit fanservicey) and Fate Extella. The Main difference here is that Akasha(The Root) is replaced by an Alien-Technology known as the Mooncell which mainly observes Humanity but also constantly processing Alter Realities and solve it with either the Counter Guardians or The Grand Class system similar to how Gaia and Alya is in Akasha
You should also make a vid about DEADFACE HAKUNO, some people still assume it's in a timeloop , but it was explained on the website of L.E. that he simply overlays his own image on the death scenes and flashbacks shown in the anime. Julius on the other hand sees anyone who enter's 5th floor as Hakuno( Hakunon in the anime) out of his resentment, people he personally knew like Rin are excluded from it though. So the "Hakuno" we see on 3rd floor's flashback might as well be a different person all in all.
We have several points where they right out say they meet again. Pierceman states to Hakuno they seem to be bound by fate to meet again in a flashback scene. Than the fact that Alice only meets Hakuno in the flashbacks and remembers him due the book he holds + Nursery Rhyme also remembers him in her dialog between them. Than the thing about Archer aka Nameless in EP1 missing several shots on purpose even tho he could easiyl killed him if he would been serious from the start. As we see his immens speed when he fights against Nero. He even smiles at the end when 1 sec before Nero destorys him indicateing that he knew Hakuno at some spoint. We even see in one of the flashbacks a gear/clockwork command spell sigil which could refer to Nameless. (Even Nero reveals that she knew he was her old Master as she thought he reincarnated as a male version of Hakunon admitting at least one loop! And its more like a reset to a prior save in the system than Timetravel due the nature of the digital/virtual world itself in the moon cell) Even female Hakuno suggests some things. And in the flashbacks scenes by Blackmore we see Shinji enter the floor and he gets shoot down. Heck even Piercemen himself states that this goes on for 999 years due nobody being worthy enough aka nobody wanting to fullfill his wish + when it happend he saw the error in his own actions. It wouldnt make sense in the first place if it didnt loop due the fact Hakuno makes several statements of dead masters hateing this cycle aka the moon cell before everything begun. If people want to refuse again that Piercemen restarts the cycle everytime there arent enough masters anymore to progess. (As he himself even states in the big reveal with his dialog between Hakuno and Him) Yeah the website says that some flashbacks are the fragments of the people inside him like the moment where he sees the dilaog between Rin & pink haired girl. Yes those are her memories. But there is a clear distingtion. Not to forget the fact that back than in blackmores EP the shadows he saw besides the bleeding Rani arent only some no name shadows. It was male & female Hakuno, Shinji, some Masters from the game + no name faces. If we go by those facts than we clearly have at least 2 loops with male & female Hakuno + Deathface Hakuno being the third loop if people still are ignoreing all the other puzzle pieces. Heck even the flashback in Blackmores episodes is the same in the game where Robin Hood trys to poison us before the fight starts. The website states that some flashbacks relate to people who also died. OUTRIGHT saying yes piror Deathface Hakunos existence people died aka at least 1 loop already happend where they all got reset. And if it didnt reset it woulndt explain the state of the mooncell itself that got fucked up due Piercemen cutting of the Angelica Cage. But we also see several mentions where people know Hakuno and the talk to Hakuno. Even if Deathface Hakuno is not the game Protag Hakuno he still is a Hakuno and still fullfills the same purpose as Hakuno from the game.
in the anime Nero never had the make Hakuno as her Master , it was Hakunon originally. when she was summoned , and explained on episode 9 , she states "she felt" like he was her incarnation but wasnt and confirms they're totally different people , you'll see in episode 2 where she tries to much to stir him some memories and reactions she she fails. Rather than a timeloop ,it's more like a re-occuring Grail Wars over and over . And i did check the random shadows but those are indeed just random dead students , the hairstyles dont really match. Again , even on Julius' case , in Hakuno's flashback where he see's him face was just him overlaying his own image over Hakunon which Nero confirmed they defeated before reaching the Angelica Cage. DeadFace may have been awaked again and again(during Twice Flashbacks) but it was the 1st time he actually ascended , as confirmed by Kotomine's final message. The only thing looping was actually just the preliminaries similar to the "Dream" BB created on CCC where she locked Hakuno and put them on an eternal state of bliss (preventing eventual deletion). Even Shinji doesnt actually recognize him , and the "he's not my friend" was more just to refute what Drake says rather than actually remembering who he is. even on his flashback , the student he killed in from of him only has been stabbed in the front , while the "Shinji" on the prelims stabbing deadface many times might as well be just an npc based off him re-doing his role on the looping preliminaries. That Archer Effigy was mostly just there for cameo reasons. And it was Nasu's attempt to throw people off into thinking it was an Extella/Zero adaptation as effigy bodies were also used in-game to hide the actual servant ,which Rin/Rani used . Also on Rhyme/Alice's case , she was more focused on the book , not the one holding it. That probably the only contradictory part is about "that person " also not having wish nor memories , but Amari never mentioned that "Hakuno's" name throughout episode 6. so we can never be sure . we'll have to wait for the last 3 episodes and Amari's Drama CD on the blu-ray to clarify.
The point of Hakuno being himself is the point the anime tryd to make viva meta dialog to the viewer that this may be the same apperence, voice & basiclly same nature of Hakuno the blank slate character who trys to find his self. But this Hakuno is a unqiue one and not the same from the game. That was the context & answere the Anime gave us/aka the fans/viewers from the game. Deathface Hakuno is his own character the same as male & femalse Hakuno from the game/bad end game timeline I dont argue that Deathface is the one who ascended for the first time. But rather either the "normal" dead/NPC Hakuno/Hakunon ascended every time the grailwars started again due stagnation of the participants.(aka that the loops/Piercemens reset happend) Rather this Deathface Hakuno just relifes/experiences the times where the regular NPC Hakuno ascended/Hakunon not to forget the other fragments of Shinji & everyone else inside him. There is a reason why they always focus on the fact that Deathface has many many fragmetns of past masters in him that coulndt be deleted due the moon cell not able to comprehend emotions in the first place. In the end he is his own being but all those fragments inside him also exist and are part of his true self. Just to be clear. When i/we talk about looping i dont talk about the typical timetravel thing cause this doesnt apply due the virtual space in the moon cell. Rather in those 999 years that happend Piercemen reset`s the original state of the master candidates. Due the fact that either no one made it up to him again because of "reasons" like Blackmore killing everyone after his reset each time, Alice becoming the floor itself, another Deathface master etc (Due the fact that Piercemen cut off the Angelica Cage & replaced it with Buddahs Chakravartin, the thing on each floor in the sky, to gain administrator acces aka full controle & prevent his own deletion due the fact he is also just a NPC/Data from a death person.) so he had to reset every master candidate to their original state so a new race to the peak could begin again. We saw what happend in those 999 years. Even on the website it states before the Hakuno who got stabbed by Shinji awoke and ascended & Shinji on Stage 1 created the sanctuary for the master who wouldnt fight. Either those 999 years passed or 100 years(my translation skills arent the best in terms of japanese. So it was either 1000y which would refer to the 999 or only 100 years) I dont remember CCC that well. But wasnt it that BB due the love Sakura developed the gone wild and in her madness tryd to steal the "grail"?`I dont remember the endings it had at all. Shinji doesnt recognize him at first due the thing about the long long timespan between Deathface Hakuno ascending & him creating the sanctuary on floor1. In the end he remembers him and clearly refers to him with his line: "Arent we friends after all"? You have to remember this Shinji is just a 8-11 year old kid who had to kill someone to surive than for a long long time tryd to make up for it on floor1 after he got really really bad ptsd about fighting & killing in general. Not to mention his own end in the same episode he is mentally exhausted & on his last legs. Idk for sure about that he is not refering to him or to Drakes dialog. But he also cuold just simply state the fact that he isnt his friend after all the stabbed him until he died. That Hakuno was alive after that was not the fact that he didnt die(he did die it was just he woke up again due his nature) after all the system gave Shinji a servant for killing someone. We see Deathface Hakuno after all die several times but rise up anew. It his nature as he refuses the system of the grail wars aka all the hatred due the fragments in him etc. I know that the Nameless smile could be counted as a reference the same way it was with the Tamamo sticker or JK Saber in a flashback etc. But the fact that he only switched to full force when he had to fight Nero is extremly weird. If you consider the thing about him before that slowly "hunting" him down while shooting & missing him instead of finishing his targets. The other fact is that all the other entities who cleared up the base floor acted quick and efficent while Nameless walked slowly. Until he switched to his greater power when he engaged Nero + the smile at the end reference or not it has a point regarding Hakuno. After all every other reference was handleld neutral JK Saber/GrandOrder Servants etc. My impression was due Alices fragmented state as the Jabberwock while Nursery Rhyme acting in place of Alice was that she led this Hakuno on purpose to Alice/talked to him in order to save her. Because when Nursery Rhym explained what happend to Alice it made the suggestion that Alice never once meet Hakuno until they engaged Jabberwock as she is Jabberwock now due Nursery Rhymes despairing attempt to save her current state. Aka she remembers her meeting with regular NPC Hakuno after seeing the book becasue her conciousness breaks free from her fragmentet state/Jabberwocks original purpose as NP. The moment she remembers is the moment she dies(tragic as fuck) I dont think that Hakuno and Amari ever meet and rather it was a Re-experience of that memorie/fragment of Amari inside DeathfaceHakuno. At least that was how i understood that scene in the Alice episodes. Tho i didnt know about drama CDs. Are those planned for the BR release? And from what heard the last 3 episdoes come in july. Appearently
Nasu really just made the LE anime a mess when he decided that he thought he can do it in 13 episodes. But at least many fans were a little satisfied that Hakunon ended up as Nero's true master unlike Extella/Zero's plot where she and Archer are the ones on the 7th floor to fight Nero and Hakuno. Again , it was explained on the website that those weren''t his deaths , they'll other masters , Hakuno overlays his image on the memories as mush as Julius seeing everyone stepping on 5th floor as "Hakuno"(most likely Hakunon since she defeated him) out of resentment....or if we follow Fate/Extra , if you use Hakunon , he actually opens up his feelings and was glad someone saw him as a person and not a monster and tells her to not cry for someone like him , in the LE website , it says Julius lost his sanity after "witnessing a certain someone's conclusion". Now that Hakunon is voiced , hopefully she can be a pseudo-servant (Francis Xavier) in FGO at some point.
Even on the Rooftop scene on episode 10 , which happens 1000 years prior , the 3rd person Hakuno represents there might as well be also Hakunon , as it happened before the system messed up. In Nasu's previous interviews he also stated that when he gave the characters canon names and nicknames (female : Hakunon , male : Kishinami-kun) he gave them the story that it was Rin who gave her the nickname Hakunon , which Rani also calls her afterwards , while the student council just calls the male as "Kishinami-kun" making it so that Hakunon was on closer terms with the other members of the Student Council on CCC , while the male was on more formal terms.
Its interesting how Nursery and Illya are similiar. Both lost their families abandoned by their close ones. Put through extremelly painful experiments on daily basis by creepy magicians in order to turn them to living weapon to win Holy Grail. Suffering terrible loneliness. Due to living alone among mindless dolls, both Illya and Nursery have hard time to distinguish between toys and humans. (mostly due to the fact that view themselves as dolls) Nursery servant thing is clearly different. However, Illya also had split personality inside of her, who was Justeaze,

The entire anime is like an extension of the game(the continuation of a bad ending on an alternative universe VERY similar with the one at the game. confusing, isn't it?). So the anime relies HEAVILY on you knowing each character beforehand. If the anime is good or bad that's another matter, but this is it.

A pity Shaft was the ones that animated this show. Anything they touch becomes needlessly complicated and overwhelming, simply for the sake of looking artsy and cool. FGO did roughly the same logic behind Nursery Rhyme yet explained it really simply in just a few sentences
FGO isnt really a good source for servants and their powers. Yes it helps to some extent but the games where each servants origins from is a better and more detailed source than the FGO info boxes
Last encore is not a sequel to extra aka the psp game the director said it is it’s own thing not to be connected to the game he wanted it to be it a stand alone and said if you watched this then play the game you’ll be confused and if you played the game then watch this you’ll be even MORE CONFUSED. So when you watch it just remember it is it’s own show when the director stated this it made the show better and yes I played the psp game on all routes then watched this.
