This is a fix I have found to get around one of the problems with the Nissan NATS 2 car theft protection system. This isn't info on how to steal a car just how to get around a faulty system. As these cars get older the NATS system seems to start seeing small problems on the car as a detection of car theft, the system seems to store this false info and decide not to allow the car to start. My system seems to just reset the data each time you start the car. See these links for more info on why I decided to make this video.

Try this first and maybe also a wire ig+ to the fuel cut off solenoid good job you have a diesel may make it easier.

It's a real pain now days trying to fix your vehicle without being a "rocket scientist" I'm glad I don't have that problem anymore. On my 1973 MGB; my 'anti-theft' device is a hidden "kill-switch' to the distributor points, plus 'The Club'.

I watched your video and it can be helpfull, but what I don't understand is why it helps to reset the immobilizer? But I will try this method out and see if it fixes my problem.

From what I remember the unit is powered up permanently on one wire and switched from the ignition on the other. The permanent power feed keeps the memory of a suspected tamper in place. So by connecting the permanent to the ignition feed each time you turn off your ignition it resets the memory clearing it. Having said this, the way I did this worked for several month but it then developed an other fault that forced me to change the engine solenoid for a more simple one and wire it to the same wire from the ignition live feed. This has fixed the whole issue once and for all, but if you have a problem as I did this is still a fix. To know if this is going to fix it first just try un-pluging the unit for 5 min or so then re-connect and see if the car starts, if not look at changing the solenoid for a more basic unit.

2000 Nissan Patrol it is the failure of the solenoid on the diesel fuel pump I've had my Nissan Patrol 4.2 for 15 years and replace this solenoid every two years if im lucky I get about two week period of intermittent faults before complete failure The nats system works just fine puts 12 volts to the solenoid every time I test for failure

I have a 2005 2.2dci x trail. Which is bringing up nats code faults. Just wondering, if i unplugged that box that you have done the wire trickery to and plug it back in should that let it start, or will it need the 12v feed to the fuel pump being changed. Thanks

Nothing to lose but your time, give it a try but can't help with where you will find it try rear of glove box first maybe. Is it refusing to start yet?

My 2003 Almera 1.5 petrol has now gone completely DEAD without warning. The two keys just don't open the car or start the engine. The 'blinking' red security on the dash is now not showing either. I'm afraid that the car is a goner. Can you give me any ideas without costing a fortune with diagnostics? HELP!!

I have the same problem on my Nissan Micra 2003,I know its a NATS2 problem as its showing on computer and I get the red flashing key symbol,I will check for the module under the glove box,this might save me 400Euro.

+Michael Witts I feel for you mate hence why I made this vid, it is a damn annoying gadget that puts a limit on the life of the car for many people as it is such a pain in the arse.

Good little car tho, if i can find this unit then all well an good, Maybe go different way than you did and stick a switch in on the permenant live, to reset. Just gotta fnd it, on verge of taking whole dash out, or getting rid and buying a jag.

+Michael Witts Try behind glove box and get a torch and mirror. You can also get a garage to fit a standard solenoide on the fuel pump and fit a switch to it. Good luck.

after more research I've discovered that facelift k11,s just don't have that control unit, so finding the right type of nats ecu with keys an chips may prove to be long and expensive.

+Michael Witts Nisan seems to use these as built in obsolescence to force you to scrap the car. Maybe it would be better for people to risk the car get stolen then it be a worthless lump after several years. I don't think Fords etc do this but sure you have other issues then, oh for the old days in the 1980's when you just had electronic ignition and the rest was still basic.

Sometimes it can be that simple but these tend to break down at bad moments and it is best to have a way to disarm them when they are going wrong as I did here. In the end I also had to change out a solenoid on the injector I think as the NATS system seems to almost be intelligent and find other ways to stop you being able to drive off. When it first started to give trouble I just had to leave the car for 5 min then try again but as the weeks went on then I had to dis-connect the battery, then I had to use this bypass and that worked for about 3 months then I had to change the solenoid and that cured it for good. It is like Nissan has designed in a system of obsolescence into all their cars at about 10 years old they don't want to start and find electronic ways to stop you, maybe it is a way to get you back to the dealer to reset the firmwhere for a few more years.

The regular non microchipped key was working fine I dont know why they had to replace it with this non reliable ectronic parts.

I suppose it was to reduce people hot wiring cars, but I think they have built in obsolescence to get you back to the dealers and make more money off you.

I am just a stubborn guy who tries to find life fixes for problems. I hope at some point a Nissan electrician will come on here and offer some free assistance to the world of Nissan owners with NATS faults. From my point of view the NATS systems seem to all have a built in time to death and ultimately you need to find ways to work around bypassing the system.

Which wires need to be shorted to make it run again? On the NATS2 box in the glovebox?

You are best to have the solenoid on the fuel pump changed and the switched + from the NATS unit to run the solenoid.

thank you for your answer and time you take here! You mean the two blue relays that i found next to the glovebox odb2 connector in mit nissan note K11... My problem is that if you turn the key the red nats wrench (red) light flashes but the engine doesn't crank. it did crank last time the problem occured. Battery is new and fully charged... Can the system engage in two steps like cut fuel (or ignition) and then kill the starter completely? Where do i get a schematic for my car? Can you share your shematic so i can make a 1:1 comparative repair to my note K11? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Sorry mate I don't have this car now or diagrams, I sold it to a friend who is restoring it and it still runs great now the NATS is disabled. NATS causes Nissan's to get scraped premature so find a way to have it removed if you can as I did. I hope someone will see your posting on here and help you out, and this is what I hope this video is good for now a point to share info. I believe that a non polarized diode can be utilized as well.

UPDATE> Resetting doesn't worked. Still cranking but no respond from the engine to start normally. Seems that NATS are really a big pain in the ass. Have lost my keys, and tried to start with a fake key. Seems that have locked the system. Really can't say, but seems that system is NATS2 (5WK4 593 gasoline immo). After two weeks, the keys was found. My key have a red lid, rectangular, just beside the metal key part. As found on the net, it is the red chip under it. Now I wait my battery to get some energy (charging) and will try the immo reset. Cross fingers, will push some info later. The reset should go like this> Turn on ignition switch for 5 seconds, do not try to start the engine. Key must be the master key for the car. Turn off the ignition. Do not remove key. Do this in three cicles. I mean three times. IF everything goes well, the NATS should be reset and the engine should start.

Lyn Jedyk has right, Nissan's are crap, but also have to admit that after (registered) 1.000.000 km my fourwheeler still go for a ride. Gonna find answer and will post it back here. Maybe out there are more enthusiast's who are in love with the Nissan :) . Cheers!

Nissan's do have their good points but the NATS are not one of them it gives the car a shorter life expectancy as they fail and can make a car worthless due to the time you have to invest fixing the anti theft systems. On an old model like I had you are better of finding a way to bypass the system.

Ok good luck as I said in the end I just got the solenoid on the fuel pump replaced for one that just came on with a simple 12V+ from the ignition so used the 12V+ wire feed to the NATS box I show in this video. This fixed the car permanent.

It seems to be a case of the NATS systems don't last the life of the cars or should I say deliberately reduce the life. You need to get the car back to basic operating which can be easier with a diesel than a petrol particularly older models. You need to find the fuel cut off solenoid on the diesel pumps and connect an ignition live to them as that is what the NATS system shuts down and stops the car with on a diesel. Petrol is more complicated as the have ECU controlled ignition timing etc.

i have a 2005 T-spec nissan pathfinder ,i took it to the garage to have the brakes fixed ,he left the drivers side window down all day and the car is now immobilized its self and will not do anything now ,will not lock or unlock ,window will not go back up and engine will not turn over,can anybody please help.

Disconnect the battery and maybe connect neg lead to pos for 20 min this may re-set the NATS system even try it for a day. Did rain get into the car with window down?

@@leojackson7326 if nothing else you could pop the door card off and temp rig the motor to 12V and drive it back up but a bit of a faf, you need a real fix just wish Nisan would stop fitting this crap don't here of other car makes having these issues.

@@samheath4912 The problem is with a modern petrol there are far more ways to prevent a car from starting than on my old diesel. The modern engine has so many electronic systems that Nisan can weave NATS into and stop a car from running. It may still be worth trying simple steps like I have shown. Do you find the system fails only now and then or has it got to the point it just won't run? Mine went unpredicatble for several months some times it would not start when on a day out and I would have to wait 5 min then try again and it would go. For the trouble NATS is after several years old I wish they had never fitted the systems, not had a Nisan for several years now. I hope at some point someone will offer a NATS removal service for all NISAN cars to stop them going to scrap yards early.

No its always run what happened is I lost me car key, so I paid for a new one and the locksmith coded the chip in the key with the code we got from Nissan, but the car would not register the new chip. An auto electrician came to try and his digaonsit kit said my ecu system had malfunctioned. So he suggested to remove the immobiliser from the car and take the Nats system motherboards out the ecu system so it bypasses the immobiliser. So my friend is trying it on Monday.

There is an easier way …. Get the lid of your ECU.. 4 screws . Find the middle board of vertical chips and wiggle it till the solder connection breaks . Pull the board out and no more NATS . Once you have found the ECU it’s 3 mins max . Works with NATS 1 and 2 👍

This is ridiculous how bad the NATS systems are this has been going on for over 12 years now and they all stop working, I suppose it is obvious they are built to do this so you take them back to the dealer and they get more money out of you. People say we need driverless cars ran by computers, then the computer will drive it's self back to the dealer and auto debit your bank for $1000 every time! You can see it coming :-)

Oddball my car is a 2003 base model, so yeah things are failing. I have already replace everything I could think of under the hood. If I replace the NATS box, will I need a key programmer?

From memory there is a way to setup a new key by presenting it to the system in the car as you do with a new key as I did this once. If you go on ebay and search for a new Smart key for the car ask the guy selling it how to set it up. I think this is your answer and you may be able to get a secondhand NATS module from a scrap yard etc but if you do that may be worth taking the ignition lock and key also.

Oddball I found a use NATS on eBay for 50 USD and I hope it solve the problem. I know I should have get the lock ignition as well but money is tight for me right now. So I'm taking my chances! It should to arrive today but it been delay because of a storm. If the new NATS don't work, than I will solder that wire into the old NATS and just leave it like that.

dont get that work...... ill tell u guys how to sucess in bypass that imobilizer ....first of all its not that yellow wire solenoid.... that is to get your car working on cold days... and keep the rmp a little higher. but behind that solenoid theres a 3 cable black box.... thats the imobilizer that controlls the open/cut valve. just remove those 2 screws that old that box... inside you will see a regular valve from any regular mechanic engine pump.... cut the black wire and conect the black listed purple on same place.... done..... imobilizer bypassedd..cheers

***** Good thought but there are hundreds of people had same problems some changed the unit and fixed it. Probably most people scrapped their cars once it got to this point but I have tried to keep mine going as the car has quite a bit going for it. No CAT, not high road tax due to year, good space in rear, short nose at front as engine under seat, rear wheel drive not bad for towing but could do with more power.
