This was way ahead of its time, it was another 20 years before comedy about social awkwardness become trendy with shows like I'm Alan Partridge and then later The Office.
I went to the screening of this last night at the NFT. Half the audience turned up dressed as Keith and Candice Marie and 2 minutes before the curtain, Alison Steadman walked in and sat in a seat just in front of me! Rather surreal.
Wow Lebroy I bet you were astounded someone in the film you were watching happend to sit right infront of you while you were watching them on the screen in front wow what was it like? Amazing! Can u bore the white out of us next time? Cheers
I only just realised that Keith chews 72 time during this scene - that was probably deliberate and very obvious, but I could never be arsed to count until now!
I first saw it as a repeat in 1982 and it made quite an impression on me. I recorded it on video tape when it was repeated again at Christmas 93 and watch it every year, in May of course.
Everyone loves Alison Steadman and rightly so, but there is a core of incredible acting talent that never quite gets the deserved credit imho. I would watch Roger Sloman in anything, even Eastenders. The man is a total genius and never disappoints.
Yes I agree.. I think that the minor roles are acted brilliantly such as Ray, the Farmer, the stone mason maing the wall, the policeman at the end..and Stephen Bill as Finger... all great acting and very believable.
Just watched this for the first time , intriguing and annoying characters but I fell in love with Candice Marie , just realised she was played by Alison Steadman
Well that's the BBC for you, funding the production of programs through a licence fee we are oblidged to pay, and then removing said film from RU-vid 40 years later in order to charge us once 'again' for the privelege of watching the very thing that we paid for originally.
You are so right. I have been trying to get hold of a documentary which was on RU-vid but has been taken down and is now unavailable anywhere. To make matters worse, you now have to give the BBC a load of personal data to access iplayer. You can opt out, but not from giving them the info, only from them using it, and if you believe that........ I am happy to show them that my licence is current, other than that they can mind their own business.
@@jaksooon 🤣 🤣That's very true Jay. Your so funny. It has done me good to laugh today. There has been precious little for us all to laugh about over the past 12 months. That aside, Roger Sloman was outstanding as Keith Pratt😅(clock the surname : it really suited him) as was Alison Steadman as Candice Marie Pratt. Nuts in May was hilarious and remains a true classic comedy. They don't make em like that any more.
@oclandestin Everybody knows someone like Candice -Marie, a bit woolly headed and indecisive, the sad thing is they always seem to end up with a "Keith", someone who thinks he knows it all, but in reality, knows bugger all about anything!

I loves me a bit of Alison Steadman. She is always amazing, whichever role she's in, be it Candice Marie, Abigail's mum all the way through to Pamelarrrrrrr. Shes almost unrecognisable as Candice Marie and the voice she does is perfect.
