Mingus' Ellingtons Sound of Love on NY Meyer 5 and #4 Java. I'm Andy - I've been experimenting with a new mouthpiece. This is my old piece, a NY USA Meyer. I'm also fooling around with a Jody Jazz Hard Rubber 6, and a #3 Hemke reed. Check out both, what do you think?

@saxophonedave Everbody's situation is different, but for me this is what has worked. I play acoustic most of the time, dig? Bars with refrigerators and dishwashers and people and phones and loud but killing drummers. Playing on a set up with some resistance has enabled me to hang in those situations.

I like the playing on the other piece better.

@thebombyall76 When you say NY meyer, is this the Richie Cole one? I ordered a few for trial on WWBW, the standard hard rubber and the richie cole one

I've also been deciding between the two. I think I prefer the meyer..that is, if this is the meyer piece?

@neilwright729 Thanks, I'll check those pieces out. It's hard to beat the old rubber pieces if you got one that plays!

@xMicroNikx This video is the NY Meyer. I'm still playing on the NY meyer even though I've probably warn it out by now. I asked a very respectable monster saxophonist here where I live how long a piece usually lasts him and he said 2-3 years. I've been playing on this piece 10 years since I had it refaced. I just can't find anything that comes close to it - I stopped trying. Good luck on your quest.

@xMicroNikx No it is actually a 'New York USA' Meyer from the late 60s or early 70s. I've never played a Richie Cole model but I have 2 Limited Edition NY Meyer made around the same time. They are good pieces except the factory stock facing work is not great and I've never been happy with the response. I may have one refaced to see if that helps. In the old days the pieces were finished by hand and there IS a difference. Check out Ted Klums Acoustimax - his work and material are top notch.
