For two of us, this film was deeply inspiring. For one of us, this film was simply not it.
Nyad is a 2023 American biographical sports drama about swimmer Diana Nyad’s attempts to swim from Cuba to Florida, starring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster.
In this episode we address the controversy of the athlete’s cheating and conclude that people need to GET A LIFE. We give serious props to the filmmakers who are legends in the world of sports documentary. But despite their credentials we question some of their filmmaking choices. Is it too cheesy? Letterboxd hate it, Rotten Tomatoes love it. We’re the same- it’s a hung jury.

I feel like we might still be holding Netflix movies to a lower standard. I really enjoyed Nyad, although I’m not sure if I would have liked it as much if I had seen it in the theater…

Hannah: try rosemary and cedarwood essential oil mixed with advocado oil in a coconut oil carrier. Tbh I never heard of this film, and I didn't have time to find it before this. I do usually like sports movies so I'll check it out. I don't usually get fired up when I hear about athletes who are women who "did it without a man helping her!", but maybe that's significant in the sports world. We shall see! Hope that doesn't make me sound like that plankton guy.

Another riveting episode 👏! While Diana's record may be controversial, the effort she put to achieve it at her advanced age definitely merits appreciation and respect. Also, I relate to Maisie's feeling of getting lost in some films so much, if a film engrosses me, I feel like I've been transported to that fictional universe so then obviously I'm no longer in a position for critical analysis. But constructive criticism is necessary to help the cast and crew of the films improve, so I also respect Hannah's opinion. The film sure had it flaws, but the positive elements it had like showing you're never too old to chase after your dreams need to be seen more, and I'm glad y'all agree about that.
